Jacksonville Jaguars' WR Brian Thomas Jr. goes top 5 in 2024 NFL redraft

The Jaguars miss out on Brian Thomas Jr. in a 2024 NFL redraft as the wide receiver is picked in the top five.
In a very early redraft of the 2024 NFL draft constructed by SI's Daniel Flick, the Jacksonville Jaguars did not have the chance to pick Brian Thomas Jr. again. Instead, Thomas ended up being a top-five pick.
In this redraft, in what was a loaded wide receiver draft class, Thomas ended up being the first wideout taken and the first non-quarterback selected as well, going fourth overall to the Arizona Cardinals.
"Thomas finished one spot ahead of Malik Nabers in AP Offensive Rookie of the Year voting and led all rookie receivers with 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns," wrote Flick. "His 87 receptions finished third-best among all first-year players."
The Jaguars would end up picking wide receiver Rome Odunze at 23rd overall.
As noted by Flick, Thomas put together a dominant rookie season. Going beyond just the rookie class, his 1,282 receiving yards were the third-most among all wide receivers, and he was seventh in yards per route run, an efficiency metric.
Making Thomas' production all the more impressive was that he continued to put up big numbers when defenses knew the ball was coming his way and with some unsteady quarterback play when the Jaguars were without Trevor Lawrence.
This season, under new head coach Liam Coen, we are going to see Thomas' role expand within this offense. This not only refers to potential opportunities, but also what he's asked to do, which can include lining up in the slot more often and attacking each level of the field with more regularity and doing so in a variety of ways.
"He's got those freakish talents, man," Coen said of Thomas during offseason programs. "He's got some freakish traits. Just his attention to detail in the meeting room setting."
Coen added, "The ability for a big dude like him to be able to operate in the slot, run some of the choice and option routes, but also be able to go vertical and catch the ball downfield, he's been a real pleasure to work with."

Colorado HC Deion Sanders wants to add former Bucs OC to Colorado staff

The Colorado Buffaloes coaching staff has been built up with NFL connections ever since Deion Sanders arrived on the team in 2023. He immediately wanted to make his staff the most friendly to his players who are pursuing their NFL dreams, or to look up to for an example of what hard work can help you achieve. A few months back, it was thought that Sanders had already added more notable names to his staff, but some recent comments from the Colorado head coach proved otherwise. While speaking at Big 12 media days, Sanders spoke about Mike Zimmer and Byron Leftwich and his hopes that they join his coaching staff. He explained, 'Our coaching staff, this is without Byron Leftwich, which I'm praying that he does the right thing, and Mike Zimmer, we have 160 years of NFL experience, with those two added, that's 204 years of NFL experience. And I want those years.' Leftwich has had a successful coaching career since his playing days came to a close. After being a first-round pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars, he became a notable assistant on the staff of Bruce Arians. Most notably, Leftwich was the Bucs' offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2022. Leftwich played a role in the team getting the free agent Tom Brady, and them winning Super Bowl LV.

Cleveland Browns rookie Quinshon Judkins accused of domestic violence in South Florida, court records show

Cleveland Browns rookie Quinshon Judkins woke up in a South Florida jail this weekend after an alleged domestic violence case last week, according to court records. According to records obtained by CBS News Miami, the NFL running back was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery on Saturday and appeared in bond court on Sunday. During his hearing, the judge found probable cause and ordered Judkins not to be in contact with the victim, no firearm access, and set his bond to $2,500. However, his attorney, David Weinstein, disagreed with the judge. "Your honor, I think the state's overstating the facts," he said during the hearing. "It's alleged that there's an incident that occurred." CBS News Miami had a crew outside the Broward County Main Jail, where he was held, and saw him walk out on Sunday afternoon. Judkins did not respond to questioning as he walked out. In a preliminary statement to CBS News Miami, the Browns said that they are aware of Judkins' arrest and "gathering more information" about the incident. According to WBNS, CBS News' affiliate in Columbus, Ohio, Judkins played for The Ohio State University from 2024 to 2025 before entering the NFL Draft, where the Browns drafted him with the 36th overall pick. During his time at Ohio State, he helped the Buckeyes win the national championship, scoring three touchdowns against the University of Notre Dame in the final. Judkins is currently entering his first season in the NFL with Cleveland, WBNS reported. The Browns' rookies are supposed to report to training camp on Friday, but it's unclear at this time whether Judkins will be there. CBS News Miami has reached out to police for more information and Judkins' attorney for a request for comment. A delayed battery report leads to an arrest The alleged incident happened on July 7 after the victim had left the airport but did not report it until Saturday, according to records revealed during Judkins' bond court hearing. Weinstein said during the hearing that Judkins and the victim were previously in a relationship but came to South Florida "as friends." But after the alleged incident, she stayed with him in Fort Lauderdale for five additional days and celebrated her birthday. It was not until after that the victim reported the incident, court records revealed. Around 9 a.m. Saturday, Fort Lauderdale Police said it responded to the area near 1500 W. Cypress Creek Rd. regarding a "delayed battery." Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim and determined a battery had occurred during their preliminary investigation, FLPD said. Officers then made contact with Judkins and placed him into custody before he was taken to BSO Main Jail and was charged accordingly. "Well, the [arrest affidavit] suggests that there are photos and bruising," Weinstein said during the hearing. "There's no proof as to when those bruises took place, when the photos were taken." No further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident were released at this time.
