said on Wednesday.
The minister shared the information about his review meeting of the TTDF on his social media account.
"TTDF is our flagship fund to support R&D and innovation in telecom technologies. Since launch, ₹499.6 Cr approved for 120 projects in 5G, 6G, chipsets & quantum tech," Pemmasani said on social media platform X.
Launched on October 1, 2022 and implemented by
Digital Bharat Nidhi
(DBN), TTDF supports cutting-edge research in areas such as 6G, quantum communication, secure chipsets, and intelligent rural connectivity.
Since inception, the scheme has received over 1,340 proposals, with 120 R&D projects approved and ₹499.6 crore sanctioned, of which ₹187 crore has already been disbursed.
DoT sources, who were aware of the developments at the meeting, shared that the minister emphasised the need for measurable outcomes from public investments in R&D and suggested a series of reforms to strengthen TTDF's implementation framework.

He also encouraged greater involvement of reputed private equity professionals and domain experts to enrich the assessment process and improve sectoral relevance, the source added.
The review came shortly after the TTDF Symposium 2025, held at IIT Madras Research Park from June 19-21, where 112 funded projects were evaluated across 12 technology verticals by over 40 expert mentors.
Recognising the importance of sustained oversight, Pemmasani is learnt to have proposed monthly reviews of TTDF's progress at his level to enable timely feedback and course correction.
"In a bid to boost participation from emerging enterprises, he suggested simplifying the scheme guidelines to reduce entry barriers for startups and MSMEs. Structural streamlining of existing committees and feedback mechanisms were also recommended to ensure improved execution and support," an official source said.

Centre committed to a green, safer mining sector: Kishan Reddy

Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy emphasised the importance of a greener and safer future for India's mining sector, highlighting the Centre's strong commitment to responsible and safe mining practices. He delivered the inaugural address at the Indian National Committee of the World Mining Congress (INC-WMC) during its International Conference on 'Sustainable and Responsible Mining through Best Mine Closure Practices,' which concluded on Friday. The conference, organised under the auspices of the Union Ministry of Coal and Mines, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, environmental experts, academics, and stakeholders from India and abroad to discuss sustainable mine closure solutions and share global best practices. The conference drew enthusiastic participation from India's leading mining and industrial organisations — including Coal India, NLC India, SCCL, MCL, NCL, SECL, Hindalco, NMDC, NTPC Mining, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, Adani, GMDC, APMDC, Jindal Power, JSW Group, BCCL, CMPDI, NALCO, CCL, WCL, ECL, DVC, Hindustan Copper, and many others. Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for Coal and Mines, urged various mineral industries in the country to boost their production while ensuring that mining operations are conducted responsibly towards the environment and local communities. He stated that industries have a responsibility to produce sufficient coal, aluminium, copper, and other minerals to meet the country's needs and lead India toward self-sufficiency in these sectors. However, he stressed that responsible mining practices must be adopted in a manner that protects the environment and benefits local communities. Kishan Reddy emphasised the need to formulate and implement strict regulations in this regard. He urged industries to maintain a balance that benefits both nature and local residents during all phases of mining—from the initial establishment of coal mines to their operation and eventual closure. Some mines in Tamil Nadu are exemplary models for the country, providing drinking water, irrigation, and job opportunities to local people.. He asked that such best practices in mine closure should be adopted by other mineral industries as well. Kishan Reddy emphasised the need for the mining industry to adopt policies that foster development for local communities while also ensuring environmentally friendly practices. The conference welcomed suggestions and insights from mining companies and experts worldwide. In addition to Kishan Reddy, the event was attended by Minister of State for Coal Satish Chandra Dubey, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Coal Rupendra Brar, Chairman of Coal India P.M. Prasad, CMD of Singareni N. Balram, CMDs of various PSUs, officials from the coal, aluminum, and copper industries, as well as representatives from different countries. During the conference, Kishan Reddy announced the release of several significant initiatives, including the Mission Green Booklet, Vision Documents on Copper and Aluminium, the RECLAIM Framework, the Exploration Module of the Single Window Clearance System (SWCS), and the 24th Neyveli Book Fair. These initiatives represent important milestones in enhancing sustainability, safety, and innovation across the sector. The conference was attended by around 300 representatives from eight countries, including those from public sector mining companies and international mining organisations. Later, addressing the media, he highlighted the consequences of neglecting mine closure activities, which include environmental issues, underutilised land, and an increase in accidents. 'Once mining operations are completed, it is essential to level the land and develop it in ways that benefit the local community. In certain areas, for example, fisheries should be promoted on the lands where mining has taken place.' Prime Minister Narendra Modi has clearly instructed that post-mining lands should be developed to serve the needs of the people. To date, the government has successfully closed 143 mining projects once mining was completed. The government plans to implement mine closure activities for all these sites. An action plan for these initiatives has already been established. Over the next three years, mine closure activities will be carried out for all coal blocks, with measures in place to protect the environment and ensure safety from accidents. Steps are being taken to promote nature-friendly development through these mine closure efforts.

CM seeks Rs 130 cr Central aid for supporting Totapuri mango farmers

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu appealed to Union agriculture and farmers welfare minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to extend Central financial assistance of Rs 130 crore towards the procurement of Totapuri mangoes in Andhra Pradesh. In a letter addressed to the Union minister, Naidu highlighted the dire situation of mango farmers, particularly in the erstwhile Chittoor district — which now comprises Chittoor, Tirupati, and Annamayya districts. The region, known for its extensive cultivation of the Totapuri variety, is expected to produce nearly 6.5 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of mangoes this season from approximately 80,000 hectares. Amid falling market prices and increasing distress among farmers, the Andhra Pradesh government has already announced a support price of Rs 4 per kg, with an equal contribution of Rs 2 each from the state and Central governments. In addition, traders and processors have been urged to offer Rs 8 per kg, enabling farmers to receive a total procurement price of Rs 12 per kg. To fulfill this commitment, the state government has agreed to bear Rs 130 crore of the financial burden and has now sought a matching contribution from the Central government. Naidu's representation requested the Centre to release Rs 130 crore towards this initiative, ensuring the effective implementation of the support price mechanism. 'This timely intervention by the Government of India will greatly help in reducing the financial stress on small and marginal Totapuri mango growers and in maintaining price stability in the market,' Naidu stated in his letter. The request comes amid widespread concern over the fluctuating mango market, which has impacted not just Andhra Pradesh but also other mango-growing states. If approved, the move is expected to benefit thousands of farmers and bolster confidence in the horticulture sector.

BJP likely to get first-ever lady boss

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party may be on track to appoint its first-ever woman national president, with names like Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP's former Andhra Pradesh unit chief D Purandeswari and Tamil Nadu MLA Vanathi Srinivasan among the probable frontrunners, according to reports. The BJP has been going through a major organisational rejig, with the appointment of new chiefs for the local units of six states and Union Territories. With that over, the party is now focussing on appointing a new national president replacing JP Nadda, a process that has been delayed for various reasons. Nadda's term as the national president of the BJP ended in January 2023, but the party extended his tenure to guide it during the Lok Sabha elections last year. He has been holding the post since 2020. The BJP has been experiencing success in influencing women voters in recent years. Women voters have played an important role in BJP's victories in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi. The party also ensured that the Women's Reservation Bill, which seeks 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies, was passed in both houses of Parliament in 2023. The appointment of a woman as the president of the party could send the right message to the electorate, the ruling party feels. It is also reported that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has given its approval to the idea of appointing a woman president for the BJP. The parent organisation realises the strategic and symbolic importance of having a woman leader for the party. Given the difference of opinion between the two entities before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and certain statements by JP Nadda, the BJP would feel the need for the RSS to be on the same page in making this important decision. Front runners Nirmala Sitharaman: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is seen as a strong contender for the post of national president. She has been the Finance minister since 2019 and was previously the Defence minister. She has strong roots in the party, and is seen as one with wide experience and leadership potential. Sitharaman recently had a meeting with the present national president Nadda and party general secretary BL Santhosh at the BJP headquarters. Another factor in her favour is that she is from Tamil Nadu, a state where the BJP is keen to make a breakthrough. D Purandeswari: Daggubatti Purandeswari is the daughter of NT Rama Rao, the former chief minister of the undivided Andhra Pradesh and the founder of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). She is a former president of BJP's Andhra Pradesh unit and is presently a Member of Parliament representing the Rajahmundry Lok Sabha constituency. She was also part of the multi-party delegations that visited various countries after Operation Sindoor. Purandeswari is fluent in five languages and is a Kuchipudi dancer. Vanathi Srinivasan: Also from Tamil Nadu, Vanathi Srinivasan is currently the national president of BJP's Mahila Morcha. She has been a part of the party since 1993 and became a member of the BJP's central election committee in 2022. In 2021, she won the Coimbatore (South) assembly seat, defeating actor Kamal Haasan, the founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM). A lawyer by profession, Vanathi has held several positions in the BJP, including state secretary, general secretary, and vice president of the Tamil Nadu party unit.
