LGMS to acquire 27pct stake in Antarex for RM22.68m

The Sun11-07-2025
KUALA LUMPUR: Cybersecurity services provider LGMS Bhd has proposed to acquire a 27 per cent stake in Antares Holdings Sdn Bhd (AHSB) for RM22.68 million.
In a Bursa Malaysia filing, LGMS said the stake acquisition in information technology company Antarex is a strategic investment, marking a significant milestone in the collaboration between LGMS and AHSB, aimed at advancing cybersecurity capabilities and capturing new growth opportunities across Southeast Asia.
Headquartered in Singapore, Antarex was part of the inaugural cohort of the CyberBoost Catalyse Programme, an initiative by the CyberSG TIG Collaboration Centre, powered by Plexal, supported by Singapore's Cyber Security Agency and the National University of Singapore.
LGMS said the acquisition also reflected a significant step forward in realising both companies' shared vision of delivering integrated, AI-powered cybersecurity solutions across the region, as it followed on the heels of both companies having inked a memorandum of understanding to this effect earlier this year.
LGMS chairman Fong Choong Fook said that the investment marks a key milestone in LGMS' regional growth strategy.
'Together, our combined platforms are set to deliver real-time threat detection, automated incident response and compliance-ready solutions tailored for enterprise and infrastructure-critical environments.
'This partnership enables us to offer end-to-end protection across a broader segment of the market -- from infrastructure operators to regional enterprises -- and fast-track our presence in high-growth ASEAN markets,' he added.
Antarex CEO Tan Pek Loon said the alignment of technical capabilities promises to drive innovation further for both companies.
'This equity partnership supercharges our ability to jointly innovate, co-develop new solutions and deliver even greater protection to our customers across Southeast Asia,' he said.
Tan added that the CyberBoost Catalyse programme equipped the most innovative and ambitious cyber companies from around the world with the knowledge and connections required to fast-track their growth plans.

Tesla reports 16% profit drop to US$1.2bil on lower auto sales

Analysts criticised Tesla's slow pace in launching new models and questioned Elon Musk's commitment to a promised US$25,000 EV. (EPA Images pic) NEW YORK : Tesla reported another drop in quarterly profits Wednesday on lower auto sales amid intensifying electric vehicle competition and lingering backlash over CEO Elon Musk's involvement in US politics. Tesla reported second-quarter profits of US$1.2 billion, down 16% from the year-ago level. The company in a press release emphasised ongoing efforts to lead in artificial intelligence and robotics. Revenues fell 12% to US$22.5 billion. Lower profits had been expected after Tesla earlier this month disclosed a decline in auto deliveries. Results were also impacted by a fall in average vehicle selling prices and higher operating expenses driven by AI and other research and development projects. Tesla did not offer an outlook on full-year vehicle production, citing shifting global trade and fiscal policies. 'While we are making prudent investments that will set up both our vehicle and energy businesses for growth, the actual results will depend on a variety of factors, including the broader macroeconomic environment, the rate of acceleration of our autonomy efforts and production ramp at our factories,' Tesla said. The results come on the heels of Tesla's launch last month of a robotaxi service in the Texas capital Austin, Musk's first fully autonomous offering after pushing back the timeframe many times. Musk has heavily touted Tesla's autonomous driving programme, as well as the company's 'Optimus' humanoid robot, which employs artificial intelligence technology. But analysts have criticised Tesla's sluggishness in unveiling new autos, while questioning Musk's commitment to an earlier goal of launching a state-of-the-art electric vehicle priced at around US$25,000 to bolster the odds of mass deployment. In Wednesday's press release, Tesla said 'we continue to expand our vehicle offering, including first builds of a more affordable model in June, with volume production planned for the second half of 2025.' Tesla has revamped its Model Y auto. That vehicle currently starts at US$37,490, although the price will rise after a US$7,500 federal tax credit goes away following passage of President Donald Trump's massive tax and fiscal package earlier this month. The worsening near-term outlook for EV sales is one reason analysts at JPMorgan Chase call Tesla's stock price 'completely divorced from increasingly deteriorating fundamentals.' But analysts at Morgan Stanley rate the company a 'top pick' in light of its leadership in robotics and artificial intelligence, although a recent note warned Musk's political activity 'may add further near-term pressure' to shares. Political controversies Disagreements over Trump's fiscal package has been a factor in Musk's recurring feud with the president. The billionaire donated huge sums to Trump's successful 2024 presidential campaign and then joined the administration to lead the 'Department of Government Efficiency,' which cut thousands of government jobs, sparking boycotts and vandalism that tarnished the Tesla brand. After their bitter falling out, Musk warned Trump's legislation would bankrupt the country. On July 5 the tech mogul announced he was launching a new political party in the United States, the 'America Party.' Trump dismissed the launch as 'ridiculous,' and has also threatened to look at deporting Musk and to revoking his government contracts. Shares of Tesla dipped 0.4% in after-hours trading.

SK Hynix posts record profits on surging AI demand

Shares in SK Hynix rose more than 3% in Seoul. (AFP pic) SEOUL : South Korean chip giant SK Hynix reported record quarterly profits today, thanks to soaring demand for artificial intelligence (AI). The world's second-largest memory chip maker dominates the market for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) semiconductors and is a key supplier for US titan Nvidia. The firm said operating profit climbed almost 70% to ₩9.21 trillion (US$6.72 billion) in the second quarter (Q2), with revenues coming in at ₩22.23 trillion – both all-time peaks. The news comes after Taiwan chip giant TSMC last week announced a surge in net profit for Q2, topping forecasts, thanks to robust demand for AI technology, despite the threat of US tariffs on the critical sector. SK Hynix also said net profit was up close to 70% on-year, at ₩6.99 trillion. 'An aggressive investment by global big tech companies into AI led to a steady increase in demand for AI memory,' it said in a statement. Shipments of DRAM and NAND flash topped forecasts, boosting the bottom line. 'SK Hynix foresees that increasing competition among big tech companies to enhance inference of AI models would lead to higher demand for high-performance and high-capacity memory products,' the company added. Shares in the firm rose more than 3% in Seoul. South Korea is a major exporter to the US and its powerhouse semiconductor and auto industries would suffer greatly under President Donald Trump's threatened 25% tariffs. Experts attribute SK Hynix's resilience to its growth in the DRAM market. The firm took the lead in DRAM revenues in April, with a 36% market share, according to specialist research firm Counterpoint. That surpassed South Korean rival Samsung for the first time and marked the first change in the top spot in more than four decades. The company also recorded a combined US$15.5 billion in sales of DRAM and NAND in Q2, matching Samsung to jointly lead the global memory market, according to a Counterpoint report. SK Hynix said in a conference call that 'the previous quarter began amid concerns over slowing demand due to trade tensions and broader economic uncertainty'. However, 'strong AI-related investment by major tech firms continued to drive growth in demand for AI-oriented memory products'. As the US has been threatening certain restrictions on semiconductor sales to China, customers' preemptive purchases 'to hedge against external risks', actually created a 'more favourable environment than initially expected', an SK Hynix official said. The company added that despite the geopolitical situations, its production situation saw 'no change'.

DBS Launches Gen AI-Powered Coaching Tool to Future Proof Its Workforce

HONG KONG SAR - Media OutReach Newswire - 24 July 2025 - DBS announced today that it is democratising coaching for its workforce with the launch of iCoach, a Generative AI-powered (Gen AI) platform developed in collaboration with Marshall Goldsmith, one of the world's top executive coaches. While most corporations reserve coaching[1] for their top executives or high potential talent, DBS believes that employees at all levels would benefit from coaching by receiving expert advice on career development as well as topical issues such as work-life balance, personal and small team leadership, or mental wellness. However, the main challenge has always been scaling coaching in an efficient and cost-effective manner – coaching is usually done on a one-to-one basis and can be costly. With the advent of Gen AI, DBS saw an opportunity to leverage the technology to overcome these challenges, enabling the bank to avail coaching to employees across its network. Lee Yan Hong, Head of Group Human Resources, DBS, said, 'As the world of work continues to evolve, building career resilience has become more important than ever. At DBS, we are committed to helping our people thrive by equipping them with future-ready capabilities through our comprehensive Triple E framework – Education, Exposure and Experience. iCoach is a powerful new addition that complements these efforts, leveraging Gen AI to offer personalised, on-demand career guidance to help every employee confidently navigate and grow in the future of work.' Betty Lam, Head of Human Resources, DBS Hong Kong, said, 'DBS continues to entrench our standing as a Responsible AI leader and bring our employees along this responsible AI journey where AI is used ethically and effectively. iCoach is a powerful tool that allows our employees to focus on personal and career growth. At the same time, we also encourage our employees to equip themselves with the necessary AI skills, which will be crucial for our collective success.' iCoach's knowledge base was developed in partnership with Marshall Goldsmith, a leading coaching expert with over four decades of experience working with top CEOs and executives, including those from Fortune 500 companies. Dr Goldsmith was inducted by Thinkers50[2] into its Hall of Fame in 2018 and is the only two-time Thinkers50 #1 Leadership Thinker in the World. He was also the inaugural winner of the Lifetime Award for Leadership by the Harvard Institute of Coaching. iCoach is always-on and available 24/7 to provide employees with just-in-time personalised career guidance. It is tailored to each employee, drawing on the context of the bank's roles, functions and internal mobility pathways to deliver relevant and actionable career advice. Data from International Coaching Federation and Better Up Career Coaching showed 70% of people in organisations who underwent coaching benefitted from improved work performance, relationships and more effective communication skills. 80% of people who received coaching reported increased self-confidence. iCoach further reinforces the bank's commitment to upskilling its employees and building career resilience, and complements other DBS initiatives including: --> iGrow, an AI / machine learning-powered platform that offers personalised career advice by matching employees to tailored learning and job opportunities based on their career and training history. --> DBS Mentoring Programme, which connects employees with leaders and peers, enabling them to gain practical guidance, career insights and support at critical points in their professional growth. --> DBS Learning Hub, which provides employees with more than 10,000 curated courses, to learn and pick up new skills. --> Be My Guest Programme, where employees have the opportunity to participate in job shadowing, workshops and projects across departments. Last year, over 4,000 such opportunities were taken up by employees. The bank's commitment to supporting employees with career development has contributed to its recognition as an employer of choice. In 2025, DBS was ranked first in TIME's 500 Best Companies in Asia Pacific, while in 2024, the bank was named among Forbes World's Best Employers. In Hong Kong, DBS Hong Kong was also recognised at the 'Bloomberg Businessweek - Financial Institutions 2025 Awards', winning the 'Training Academy – Excellence Performance' and 'Training Program of the Year – Outstanding Performance' awards. Additionally, DBS Hong Kong was honoured with the 'Employer of the Year', 'HR Team of the Year', and the 'Grand Award of Recruitment' at the Jobsdb Hong Kong HR Awards 2024/25.
