The Naked Gun review: Liam, Pamela's film is ridiculously silly and it's a good thing
In this zany reboot of the iconic 'Naked Gun' franchise, Liam Neeson takes a surprisingly successful comedic turn as Detective Frank Drebin Jr., the bumbling but well-meaning son of the legendary Frank Drebin (immortalized by Leslie Nielsen). Tasked with saving the ever-dysfunctional Police Squad from being shut down, Drebin must solve a murder and stop a villain who plans to turn the world into 'salvagers' using a doomsday disc ominously (and hilariously) named... Plot Device. Yes, for the ride is Pamela Anderson, who proves she still has comic chops (and undeniable chemistry with Neeson), in a film that's equal parts nostalgic, nonsensical, and laugh-out-loud funny. Liam Neeson has threatened criminals, trained 'Batman', and chased wolves in the snow. But nothing quite prepares you for watching him almost poop his pants after eating too many hotdogs. In 'The Naked Gun', Neeson throws himself into full-blown comedic chaos with sincerity. The film doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. It knows it's stupid. It celebrates that it's stupid. And it works, mostly because Neeson is completely, wholeheartedly in on the joke. He stumbles through this absurd world with wide-eyed confusion, perfect deadpan delivery, and a physicality that's surprisingly game for a guy who usually punches bad guys in grimy back villain of the story, played with over-the-top flair by Danny Huston, is on a mission to 'make humanity resourceful again' by turning them all into junkyard scavengers using a disc named Plot Device. Their scenes together are sprinkled with both classic rom-com tension and, at one point, exploding fondue. Don't ask. Although Pamela isn't given enough to show her acting chops in don't walk into this movie expecting emotional arcs or cinematic subtlety, you go in for a laugh. And laugh you will. Whether it's the demonic snowman or the owl helping Liam in a crucial climatic scene, the film knows how to keep the absurdity dialled just high enough to stay enjoyable.'The Naked Gun (2025)' is a masterclass in committed chaos. Former Maroon 5 bassist Mickey Madden's wife, Catherine Blair Bowman, filed a restraining order against him. In new court documents filed on Wednesday, July 30, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, she stated that she was 'terrified" of him as he allegedly physically abused her after she confronted him for behaving inappropriately with minor girls. As reported by People, the incident took place on July 21 after Catherine was tipped off by a teenage girl, who sent her a text saying that Mickey was sexting with her. 'I was extremely hurt and disturbed. I needed to understand what was going on between them," said his wife in her statement. She then went on to share details about the alleged assault incident. After she received the text, Catherine asked Mickey to show her his phone, which he denied. When she asked him to hand over his phone, he began deleting the texts. 'I could see that he was quickly deleting the evidence from his phone," she said. His wife then grabbed his phone and quickly ran out of the house, which 'enraged" Mickey, and he also followed her. Mickey Madden's Wife Said He 'Slammed' Her Body Against Kitchen Counter As stated in the legal documents, the former Maroon 5 member used all his force to restrain his wife. 'He then slammed my body against the marble kitchen counter," she mentioned, adding that she was in pain and was 'terrified." Catherine further said, 'He shoved me to the ground and was out of his mind. I landed on my knees. He kept screaming for me to give him the phone. He appeared literally insane to me. I had never seen such uncontrollable anger and a completely different person." The same court documents also described another incident of abuse, which happened on May 14. Catherine shared, 'He physically abused me. Extreme emotional harm. I'm now terrified of him." Mickey Madden Allegedly Hired An 18-Year-Old Prostitute The screenshots that were submitted in the court showed that the 46-year-old bassist called his sexting 'A private and fake harmless fantasy" that had 'No bearing on real life at all." In another message, Catherine accused him of hiring prostitutes, saying, 'I do not know the man who hires 18-year-old prostitutes to text them about wanting to be their stepdad and rape them while we are on our honeymoon." Mickey replied to her text, apologising for his actions and acknowledging that they were wrong, but he also claimed that those were just 'consensual fantasy talk." In the court documents, Catherine also alleged that Mickey refused to get intimate with her after she expressed her desire to have kids with him. Instead, he began sleeping with prostitutes. A judge has now granted Catherine a temporary restraining order, which also includes their two Siberian huskies. The order is effective till August 20.
