Dindigul lock, Ayakudi Guava, Kodaikanal Hill Garlic all made up of flowers captivate people at Kodaikanal flower show
The flower show was inaugurated by Dindigul Member of Parliament. R. Sachithanantham and Dindigul Collector S. Saravanan in the presence of Additional Chief Secretary of Tourism, Culture and Religious Endowments Department K. Manivasan, Agricultural Production Commissioner and Secretary to the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department V. Dakshinamoorthy and Director (In-charge) of Horticulture and Plantation Crops B. Murugesh.
The opening day of the event witnessed a decent crowd. The authorities said that they expected an increase in the number of visitors in the coming days. The government was organising the summer festival and flower show to showcase the art and culture of Tamil Nadu and the festival would be held till June 1.
The people were captivated by over 70,000 flowers that were arranged in various shapes and sizes. Flowers from across the globe were displayed at the event. Flowers were arranged in the shape of peacocks and elephants were carved out of vegetables. There were also messages to create awareness among the tourists to avoid the use of plastic and protect the environment and wildlife
Some of flowers on display included Salvia, Delphinium, Ornithogalum, Gazania, Penstemon, Verbena, Coreopsis, Dahlia, Lilium, Antirrhinum, pansy, Marigold, Dianthus, Zinnia, California Poppy, etc.
Basic facilities including drinking water and toilet facilities, parking, transportation facilities and other arrangements were made to prevent traffic congestion. People were seen enthusiastically clicking photographs and selfies with the flowers on display. Cultural programmes, art performances and various competitions have been organised as part of the event. The authorities said that they expected around 1.5 lakh tourists to visit the 10-day event.

Action plan soon to develop Tirupati as tourist hub: Tourism Minister
Tirupati district will be developed as a tourist hub and a special action plan will be formulated for the same in the coming days, said Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh. After visiting the Venkateswara Swamy temple at Tirumala on Monday, the Minister said that a meeting would be held in Tirupati on August 7 and 8 to discuss tourism development in the district. The meeting will be attended by officials from various departments, including Tourism and Endowments. The Minister also announced that all the temples and tourist spots in Tirupati district would be connected to form a tourism circuit. He added that the Gandikota tourism project, which has been sanctioned under the Central government's Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme, is expected to be launched on August 1 by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. With the grant of industrial status to the tourism sector and the announcement of a new policy, several investors are coming forward to set up five-star hotels in Tirupati and Visakhapatnam on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, Mr. Kandula Durgesh said, adding that efforts are being made to facilitate the establishment of these hotels. Later, the Minister announced that water sports and beach resorts will be set up along the State's coastline. Efforts are under way to launch a cruise service between Visakhapatnam and Chennai, and to introduce seaplanes on a full scale. The Rishikonda Palace will be developed to serve the needs of the public, he added.

Sri Lankan President Dissanayake to visit Maldives to boost bilateral ties
Last Updated: Colombo, Jul 27 (PTI) Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake will pay a three-day official visit to the Maldives to enhance cooperation between the two island nations, the foreign ministry here has announced. The visit from July 28-30 will be at the invitation of Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, the ministry said in a statement on Friday. The two presidents will hold bilateral talks to exchange several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). The visit aims to boost cooperation between the Maldives and Sri Lanka in mutually beneficial areas, according to the ministry. This will be the first visit to the Maldives by Dissanayake since being elected president in September last year. His first visit was to India and was followed by visits to China and the UAE. The visit marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. According to Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, one of the MoUs will allow Maldivian citizens to obtain visit visas valid for up to one year. He said a substantial number of Maldivians visit Sri Lanka for health tourism. Sri Lanka has been granting free tourist visas to Maldivians since 2023. Centre to boost tourism infra at Chola-era temples: Union minister
Trichy: Union minister for tourism and culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Saturday said the Centre is taking steps to enhance tourism infrastructure at ancient Chola-era temples. During a visit to the Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the minister said efforts are underway to make the site more tourist-friendly while preserving its religious and historical significance. He was accompanied by officials from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). "The government is committed to developing the infrastructure of temples built by the Cholas to improve the experience of both devotees and those interested in the region's rich historical legacy," Shekhawat said. ASI regional director Dr Navratna Kumar Pathak, superintendent archaeologist Dr Sushant Kumar Kar, and assistant superintendents Dr C R Gayathri, Dr V Muthukumar, and Dr V Vetriselvi briefed the minister on ongoing conservation work at the Big Temple. Calling Thanjavur one of India's premier tourist destinations, Shekhawat said, "Preserving the Big Temple remains a top priority." Later, the minister visited the Maratha Palace, where he was hosted by the Thanjavur Maratha Royal Family. He described the 16th-century monument as a "great treasure of history" and was briefed on its heritage and conservation needs. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit another UNESCO-listed Chola monument, the Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple, on Sunday to take part in the Aadi Thiruvathirai festival.
