Sabrina Carpenter eyed for role in Mamma Mia! 3

Perth Now29-05-2025
Sabrina Carpenter is being lined up to star in 'Mamma Mia! 3'.
The 'Espresso' hitmaker is wanted by producer Judy Craymer to star in the third movie based on the ABBA musical of the same name in a role connected to the late Donna Sheridan–Carmichael (Meryl Streep).
Craymer told Deadline: "She'd be a goddess or some relation who would look very much like Meryl Streep."
Sabrina, 26, is known to be a huge fan of ABBA and has performed some of the legendary Swedish group's hits on her Short n' Sweet tour.
The producer came up with the idea for the 'Mamma Mia!' musical, which launched in London's West End back in 1999, and explained that she has a script ready to go for the third flick.
Craymer said: "Well, we know what we want to do with the movie, and it will happen.
"And I mean, we brought together this amazing group of movie stars that were all connected through it, and huge friendships evolved."
The original 'Mamma Mia!' film was released in 2008 and featured an all-star cast including Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Amanda Seyfried. It was followed by the sequel 'Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again' in 2018.
Seyfried has previously championed the idea of Sabrina appearing in the third flick as her character Sophie's daughter should the movie come to fruition.
Quizzed about the prospect despite the singer only being 13 years her junior, the 39-year-old actress told ABC News last year: "You know what? Old age makeup for me. That's what it will be. … I'm an actor. I'll do it.
"If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I'll make it happen. It's fine. She's … I'm a big fan."
Amanda revealed at the time that she hadn't seen a screenplay for the third 'Mamma Mia!' installment but underlined that "everybody says it's gonna happen".
She said: "'Mamma Mia! 3', let's go baby.
"Everybody says it's gonna happen. But I mean, I haven't seen a script."
Fellow cast member Christine Baranski previously revealed that Craymer was working on getting a third entry in the franchise to the big screen.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: "I was in London with Judy Craymer at our favourite watering hole, she is planning 'Mamma Mia! 3'. She gave me the narrative plotline of how it's going to happen. That's all I can say!
"But, it's not like, 'Oh, I wish it could happen!' Judy Craymer makes things happen."
Baranski is convinced that the producer has the pulling power to get such a starry cast back together for a third film.
The 73-year-old actress said: "[Craymer] made number two happen, and it was a phenomenal hit. I wouldn't put it past Judy Craymer to get everybody back together."

Fanstasic Four director speaks on 'passing the baton' to Russo brothers for Avengers: Doomsday

The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman is ready to "pass the baton" to the Joe and Anthony Russo for Avengers: Doomsday. The 49-year-old filmmaker – who helmed the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie – revealed the directing duo had visited the set of The Fantastic Four: First Steps to get a feel of the titular family for their 2026 blockbuster. Speaking with Deadline, Shakman said of the Russo brothers: "They were very curious about what we were doing - they came to tour our sets, they would watch scenes that we were cutting together. "They wanted to get to know these people as they were working on their story and their script, so that I could pass the baton to them and these characters would be well cared for." The Fantastic Four: First Steps – which stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing – follows the titular family as they gain extraordinary powers after a cosmic accident during their exploration of outer space. As they grapple with their new identities, the Fantastic Four must unite to stop the rising threat of Galactus (Ralph Ineson), who is hell-bent on destroying the destroy Earth. While he has "no idea" what Marvel boss Kevin Feige has in store for fans with Avengers: Doomsday, Ineson insisted he would "of course" team up with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom in the MCU if he was given the chance. He said: "I have no idea what Kevin Feige and everybody have planned, but I worked with Robert a few years ago on Dolittle for a few days, and he's an absolute gentleman and amazing actor, so I loved having the chance to work with him and watch him work. "So, yeah, if I got the chance to team up with him again, of course I would." As well as the Fantastic Four, Avengers: Doomsday will see the return of X-Men stars like Sir Ian McKellen's Magneto, Sir Patrick Stewart's Professor X, James Marsden's Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn's Mystique, Kelsey Grammer's Beast and Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler. Other cast members for the movie include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as James 'Bucky' Barnes, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. While exact plot details about Avengers: Doomsday are being kept under wraps, the film – which is slated to hit cinemas on December 18, 2026 – will likely see the Avengers, the New Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four team up to stop Doctor Doom from carrying out his catastrophic plans for the Multiverse. With production on the movie currently underway, Feige revealed Avengers: Doomday's script is being tinkered with on set. He said at a recent press event: " There's plus-ing happening every day on the Avengers: Doomsday set right now, and it is amazing to watch because what those filmmakers, those actors, both the ones that are playing these characters for the first or second time and the one playing them for the 10th or 12th time, are the best in the world at it, and know these characters so well. "So if they have an idea, you want to listen to it and you want to adjust to it and you want to improve it. I wouldn't want to change that."

Katie Holmes will have Dawson's Creek reunion for new film trilogy

Katie Holmes is reuniting with Dawson's Creek co-star Joshua Jackson for a new film trilogy. The 46-year-old actress will write, direct and star in Happy Hours opposite her former castmate for their first on-screen project together in over two decades. As reported by Deadline, Holmes and Jackson, 47, will take the lead with production set to get underway in New York City this summer, while work on the next two instalments is expected to continue shortly after. The film will follow two people trying to navigate their relationship as they tried to balance family life and careers with "the pursuit of love". It's described as a "character-driven dramedy", with young loves reconnecting as adults. Other cast members attached to the project include Mary-Louise Parker, Constance Wu, Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr, Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson and Jack Martin. Holmes has previously directed indie films like Alone Together, Rare Objects and All We Had. She and Jackson both starred in all six seasons of teen drama series Dawson's Creek. Holmes wrote on Instagram this week: "I am so very grateful to be working again with so many of my wonderful friends on this film HAPPY HOURS. "And working with Josh after so many years is a testament to friendship. "HAPPY HOURS is a love story that includes so many people I adore. We can't wait for everyone to see what we make." The movie will mark their first time on screen together since Dawson's Creek - which also included the likes of Busy Philipps, Michelle Williams and James Van Der Beek - ended 22 years ago. Earlier this year, Jackson admitted he and Holmes were still "very close". He told Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Dinner's On Me podcast: 'Katie and I are very close. Busy and Michelle are very, very close.' Although he admitted the cast of the show don't necessarily get in touch regularly, they're still there for each other. He added: "It's not a daily call. Sometimes it's not a weekly or monthly or even a half-yearly call, but when you're together—there's always that, 'I know, you know.' ' Fans hoping for a Dawson's Creek reboot on the big screen one day will be disappointed though, as Holmes previously dismissed the idea. Back in 2022, she told Screen Rant: "We've definitely talked about it over the years, but I feel like that show captured that time period and that time in all of our lives. "I think it's great that you are nostalgic for it. So am I. "But it's like, do we want to see them not at that age? We all decided we don't actually."

Bill Cosby pays tribute to The Cosby Show co-star Malcolm-Jamal Warner after his tragic death

Bill Cosby has paid tribute to his The Cosby Show co-star Malcolm-Jamal Warner. The actor tragically passed away on Sunday (20.07.25) at the age of 54 after drowning while on holiday in Costa Rica and has been remembered by Cosby as a "great studier" after playing his on-screen son Theodore Huxtable in the TV sitcom that aired from 1984 until 1992. The 88-year-old star told ABC News: "He was always a great studier, and I enjoyed working with him very much. "He was very professional. He always knew his part... He always knew his lines, and he always knew where to go." Cosby - who has faced sexual misconduct allegations from a number of women in recent years and had a sexual assault conviction quashed in 2021 - explained that he and Malcolm remained close when The Cosby Show ended. He said: "Malcolm calls here regularly." Warner's cause of death has been confirmed as "asphyxia by submersion" by local authorities in Costa Rica. The country's Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) explained in a statement that they "removed the body of a man who apparently died as a result of asphyxiation by submersion" who was later identified as the actor - who also starred in Suits and The Resident. Malcolm "entered the sea and was apparently swept away by a current", according to "preliminary information" reviewed by the OIJ. The statement continued: "The man was rescued by bystanders and taken to shore, where he received treatment from the Costa Rican Red Cross. However, he was declared lifeless at the scene." Tributes to Malcolm have poured in from across the showbiz world, with his 9-1-1 co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt stating that the tragedy "hurts my heart". She wrote on social media: "This hurts my heart. A gentleman, an incredible talent and we were so lucky to have him in the 9-1-1 family. Heartbroken and sending love to his family." Comedian Sherri Shepherd described Malcolm - who is survived by a wife and daughter whose identities he has kept private - as "one of the most-grounded people I've met in our business" after working with him on the TV series Sherri. She said: "As someone who grew up on TV, Malcolm remained one of the most-grounded people I've ever met in our business. To know Malcolm was to know a renaissance man that possessed humour, grace, humility and deep cultural appreciation. He was just a good guy! "His passing is a true loss to the Hollywood community. He was a proud girl dad and loved his daughter so much. To his family, friends and all who loved him - my heart is with you."
