Katie Holmes will have Dawson's Creek reunion for new film trilogy

Katie Holmes is reuniting with Dawson's Creek co-star Joshua Jackson for a new film trilogy.
The 46-year-old actress will write, direct and star in Happy Hours opposite her former castmate for their first on-screen project together in over two decades.
As reported by Deadline, Holmes and Jackson, 47, will take the lead with production set to get underway in New York City this summer, while work on the next two instalments is expected to continue shortly after.
The film will follow two people trying to navigate their relationship as they tried to balance family life and careers with "the pursuit of love".
It's described as a "character-driven dramedy", with young loves reconnecting as adults.
Other cast members attached to the project include Mary-Louise Parker, Constance Wu, Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr, Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson and Jack Martin.
Holmes has previously directed indie films like Alone Together, Rare Objects and All We Had.
She and Jackson both starred in all six seasons of teen drama series Dawson's Creek.
Holmes wrote on Instagram this week: "I am so very grateful to be working again with so many of my wonderful friends on this film HAPPY HOURS.
"And working with Josh after so many years is a testament to friendship.
"HAPPY HOURS is a love story that includes so many people I adore. We can't wait for everyone to see what we make."
The movie will mark their first time on screen together since Dawson's Creek - which also included the likes of Busy Philipps, Michelle Williams and James Van Der Beek - ended 22 years ago.
Earlier this year, Jackson admitted he and Holmes were still "very close".
He told Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Dinner's On Me podcast: 'Katie and I are very close. Busy and Michelle are very, very close.'
Although he admitted the cast of the show don't necessarily get in touch regularly, they're still there for each other.
He added: "It's not a daily call. Sometimes it's not a weekly or monthly or even a half-yearly call, but when you're together—there's always that, 'I know, you know.' '
Fans hoping for a Dawson's Creek reboot on the big screen one day will be disappointed though, as Holmes previously dismissed the idea.
Back in 2022, she told Screen Rant: "We've definitely talked about it over the years, but I feel like that show captured that time period and that time in all of our lives.
"I think it's great that you are nostalgic for it. So am I.
"But it's like, do we want to see them not at that age? We all decided we don't actually."

Fanstasic Four director speaks on 'passing the baton' to Russo brothers for Avengers: Doomsday

The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman is ready to "pass the baton" to the Joe and Anthony Russo for Avengers: Doomsday. The 49-year-old filmmaker – who helmed the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie – revealed the directing duo had visited the set of The Fantastic Four: First Steps to get a feel of the titular family for their 2026 blockbuster. Speaking with Deadline, Shakman said of the Russo brothers: "They were very curious about what we were doing - they came to tour our sets, they would watch scenes that we were cutting together. "They wanted to get to know these people as they were working on their story and their script, so that I could pass the baton to them and these characters would be well cared for." The Fantastic Four: First Steps – which stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing – follows the titular family as they gain extraordinary powers after a cosmic accident during their exploration of outer space. As they grapple with their new identities, the Fantastic Four must unite to stop the rising threat of Galactus (Ralph Ineson), who is hell-bent on destroying the destroy Earth. While he has "no idea" what Marvel boss Kevin Feige has in store for fans with Avengers: Doomsday, Ineson insisted he would "of course" team up with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom in the MCU if he was given the chance. He said: "I have no idea what Kevin Feige and everybody have planned, but I worked with Robert a few years ago on Dolittle for a few days, and he's an absolute gentleman and amazing actor, so I loved having the chance to work with him and watch him work. "So, yeah, if I got the chance to team up with him again, of course I would." As well as the Fantastic Four, Avengers: Doomsday will see the return of X-Men stars like Sir Ian McKellen's Magneto, Sir Patrick Stewart's Professor X, James Marsden's Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn's Mystique, Kelsey Grammer's Beast and Alan Cumming's Nightcrawler. Other cast members for the movie include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as James 'Bucky' Barnes, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man and Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. While exact plot details about Avengers: Doomsday are being kept under wraps, the film – which is slated to hit cinemas on December 18, 2026 – will likely see the Avengers, the New Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four team up to stop Doctor Doom from carrying out his catastrophic plans for the Multiverse. With production on the movie currently underway, Feige revealed Avengers: Doomday's script is being tinkered with on set. He said at a recent press event: " There's plus-ing happening every day on the Avengers: Doomsday set right now, and it is amazing to watch because what those filmmakers, those actors, both the ones that are playing these characters for the first or second time and the one playing them for the 10th or 12th time, are the best in the world at it, and know these characters so well. "So if they have an idea, you want to listen to it and you want to adjust to it and you want to improve it. I wouldn't want to change that."

I Know What You Did Last Summer director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson teases possible sequel

I Know What You Did Last Summer director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has "a plan of what could be next". The 37-year-old filmmaker helmed the 2025 slasher, and has now revealed she has already started to think about a sequel – though refused to give any details about the possible follow-up. She told Screen Rant: "I do have a plan in mind of what could be next. I cannot tell you." Even so, the director teased she'd like Brandy Norwood's Karla – who appeared in the 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer as Julie James' (Jennifer Love Hewitt) roommate – to have a part in a potential follow-up after she cameoed in the mid-credits scene of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Robinson said: "I wanted Brandy in this film. And again, a lot of the cameos, a lot of the choices made—they just had to be the right thing. Not just for the character and for the franchise, but for this version of the movie and the story that we were telling. "So for me, to catch up with Brandy where we find her in the film, and to know that Julie James is a character who has shut everybody out—she left Southport, she abandoned Ray, she doesn't really have any friends, she lives by herself—that person wouldn't necessarily have kept up with anyone. "So bringing them back together was really fun, and I loved being able to do that." I Know What You Did Last Summer sees the return of Jennifer Love Hewitt's Julie James and Freddie Prinze Jr.'s Ray Bronson as they try to help a group of teens escape the clutches of a masked killer following a hit-and-run cover-up. The horror flick also saw the surprise cameo appearance of Sarah Michelle Gellar's ill-fated Helen Shivers – who met a grizzly end in the original 1997 I Know What You Did Last Summer. Reflecting on his wife's shock return, Prinze Jr. said he was "glad" he was able to keep quiet about Gellar's secret comeback. Freddie told PEOPLE he "knew from jump" that Sarah would be in the new movie, adding: "We were all really excited for audiences to get to see that and get a little bit of extra love that they weren't expecting. "It's nice to know a secret, and to know how well-received it's going to be, months and months before it ever goes out there. "To hear the reaction that people have had, because I know some other people that have seen it, they're all like: 'Oh, my God, you didn't tell me! That was the best.' "I'm like, 'Yeah, it was the best one. Everybody always loves her.' To give people another taste of that, I just think was awesome. I'm glad everyone made it happen."
