Clemson Lands Top In-State Safety for Dabo Swinney's Top 5 2026 Class

Clemson has added a crucial piece to its defensive future. Four-star safety Kentavion Anderson of Dorman High School in Roebuck, South Carolina, has committed to the Tigers, giving Dabo Swinney's staff a significant in-state recruiting win over rival South Carolina.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Anderson chose Clemson over a deep list of national suitors that included Michigan, Tennessee, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Florida, and others. But for months, the battle was seen as a Palmetto State showdown between Clemson and USC—and the Tigers came out on top.

Anderson made his decision public Friday, citing Clemson's academic support and the potential for early playing time as major factors in his choice.
'It was the academics and the playing time as a freshman,' Anderson said.
Clemson's spring visit strategy may have sealed the deal. Anderson attended the Tigers' Elite Retreat on March 8 and was on campus earlier in January for Junior Day. In contrast, while he also visited South Carolina in January and stayed in contact with secondary coach Torrian Gray, he never made a return trip to Columbia this spring due to his busy 7-on-7 schedule.

'They told me that I'm a great ballplayer and can play anywhere on the field,' Anderson said of Clemson's staff. 'They showed me how some of their best guys played around at several positions.'

Anderson's pledge could have a ripple effect for Clemson, not just because of the in-state optics, but because of his potential fit in the Tigers' secondary. He now joins fellow four-star defensive back Kaden Gebardt in the 2026 class, forming a promising duo with complementary skill sets.
Gebardt has been vocal on social media, campaigning for Anderson's commitment—and now the two will share a defensive backfield in Death Valley.
By locking down a top-10 in-state prospect and fending off the Gamecocks, Clemson regains traction within South Carolina's borders. It's a symbolic and strategic win for the Tigers, who are looking to rebuild their defensive identity with versatile, instinctual playmakers like Anderson.
Anderson plans to take only one official visit—and it'll be to Clemson, the school he now plans to call home.

Phillies slugger Bryce Harper ejected following outburst over called third strike

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Phillies slugger Bryce Harper was ejected in the seventh inning of Friday's game against Detroit for arguing a called third strike on a check swing. The Phillies scored three runs in the seventh to tie the game 3-all and had two runners on base with two outs when Harper faced Tigers reliever Will Vest. Harper tried to check his swing on a full-count changeup from Vest, but third base umpire Vic Carapazza rang up the Harper, who ripped his helmet off his head in a outburst and shouted as he waved his arms at Carapazza. Harper was promptly tossed and kept his helmet with him as he walked into the dugout. ___ AP MLB:

Detroit Tigers trade Central Michigan alumnus Dietrich Enns to Baltimore Orioles

PHILADELPHIA — The Detroit Tigers cut left-hander Dietrich Enns by designating him for assignment, then traded him in their final move on the day of the trade deadline. The Tigers traded Enns to the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, July 31, in exchange for cash considerations. The 34-year-old has joined the Orioles' 26-man roster, so he gets to stay in the big leagues. Enns pitched for Central Michigan from 2010-12. MORE ABOUT HIM: Who is Dietrich Enns? Central Michigan pitcher returns to MLB with Tigers after 1,371 days By trading for Enns, the Orioles skipped the waiver process that would've allowed any other MLB team to claim him. The Tigers designated Enns for assignment Thursday afternoon — less than three hours before the Orioles trade — to create space on their 40-man roster for right-handed reliever Codi Heuer, whom the Tigers acquired from the Texas Rangers for cash considerations and assigned to Triple-A Toledo. For the Tigers, Enns posted a 5.60 ERA with four walks and 15 strikeouts across 17⅔ innings in seven games (two starts). He owns a 4.30 ERA in his MLB career, spanning 44 innings in parts of three seasons with the Minnesota Twins (2017), Tampa Bay Rays (2021) and Tigers (2025). HIS JOURNEY: Ex-CMU lefty Dietrich Enns joins Tigers after three-year trek through Asia Enns pitched in Asia during the 2022-24 seasons, sending 2022-23 in Japan and 2024 in Korea.
