Harris English's caddie denied U.K. visa over past drug conviction
NORTH BERWICK, Scotland — Harris English is spending the next two weeks in the United Kingdom for the Scottish Open and The Open, two tournaments that could be critical in his bid to play in another Ryder Cup.
His caddie, Eric Larson, is stuck at home without being able to obtain a new Electronic Travel Authority visa for travel to the U.K., a regulation that now applies to Americans.
Grounds for refusal include an applicant who has been convicted of a criminal offense in the U.K. or overseas for which they served 12 months or more in prison.
Thirty years ago, Larson pleaded guilty to sending cocaine to friends in the Midwest. Though he wasn't a user or big-time dealer, he spent 10 years and three months in prison and was released from a halfway house in June 2006.
Mark Calcavecchia hired him back and got him on his feet. Since then, Larson worked for three players at the Ryder Cup — Anthony Kim in 2008, Jeff Overton in 2010 and most recently English, with whom he has worked the last eight years.
'I guess the United Kingdom doesn't look highly on his past,' English said Tuesday at The Renaissance Club before his pro-am round. 'And apparently it's a work in progress.'
English, who is No. 19 in the world and 10th in the U.S. standings for the Ryder Cup, said he didn't become aware of Larson's plight until right after he tied for fourth at the Travelers Championship three weeks ago.
English said he reached out to Warren Stephens, the ambassador to the U.K. who put him in touch with his chief of staff.
'They wrote a letter. The R&A wrote a letter. The PGA Tour wrote a letter. A charity event Eric works for in the States wrote a letter. It's not for a lack of effort,' English said. 'I think it could be sitting on someone's desk at the government somewhere.'
Joe Etter is filling in — for now — as his caddie. Etter, who started out working for English more than a decade ago, currently works for Davis Thompson, who is not playing the Scottish Open.
Golf Channel Staff,
Thompson, however, received the final spot in the field for The Open next week at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland (part of the U.K.).
'Joe was my Plan B,' English said. 'Now we're going to have to get a new Plan B.'
English is holding out hope that someone will pave the way for Larson to get the ETA visa he needs for U.K. entry. Larson has worked the last four years at The Open for English and previously for Overton and Kim.
'It's just a matter of the right people seeing it,' he said. 'I didn't understand how complicated the process was. Someone could see this guy had something in his past 30 years ago, he's been fine the last 20. How long does this stay with him?'

McIlroy has really turned it on over the last two days of play, shooting a 65 on Friday, before following it up with a 66 yesterday. If he can keep the consistency going through the final hole on Sunday, he has a great chance to win his fourth PGA Tour event of the year. Gotterup remains tied with the 2025 Master champion at -11, but his score is being held aloft by the 61 he finished his second round with. I will take a blow-up from McIlroy or a better performance than Gotterup's opening round of 68 or 70 from Saturday. Other contenders include Wyndham Clark (-9), Jake Knapp (-9), Marco Penge (-9), and Matt Fitzpatrick (-9). Scottie Scheffler might be too far off the lead at -6, but anything is possible with the world number one ranked golfer. This is a great PGA Tour event that you will not want to miss; be sure to tune in to catch all the action. Hamzah Sheeraz brutally KOs Edgar Berlanga in first-ever card at US Open
Hamzah Sheeraz punctuated the first boxing card held on the grounds of the U.S. Open tennis tournament by stopping Edgar Berlanga in the fifth round Saturday night. The English fighter moved up in weight to make his debut at super middleweight and showed he has plenty of power for it, dropping Berlanga twice in the fourth round and then pouncing quickly to start the fifth before referee David Fields stopped the fight. Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) has been touted as a potential opponent for 168-pound champion Canelo Alvarez and would not only deserve it but have a chance to win if if he looked as good as he did against Berlanga (23-2), who had boasted that he would have an easy night. Hamzah Sheeraz (right) punches Edgar Berlanga during his victory on July 12, 2025. Golden Boy via Getty Images In the co-main event, Shakur Stevenson remained undefeated and defended his WBC lightweight title with a dominant performance, beating William Zepeda by unanimous decision. One judge favored Stevenson 119-109, while the other two had it 118-110 for the 2016 Olympic silver medalist. Stevenson (24-0) won just before Berlanga and Sheeraz fought in the final bout of the night in Louis Armstrong Stadium, the No. 2 venue at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Hamzah Sheeraz (R.) punches Edgar Berlanga during their bout on July 12, 2025. Golden Boy via Getty Images But it was a main event-level performance from Stevenson and the first wide victory of the night after the previous two bouts were close right to the finish. Zepeda (33-1) landed a left hand shortly after the opening bell that drew a smile from the champion, and he was able to get inside a number of times to unload a series of shots at Stevenson. But he was often powerless to stop the flurries that were coming back at him from Stevenson's hand speed that is up at the top of boxing. The Ring Magazine held its second fight card in New York after staging one in Times Square in May. Tickets weren't sold then and just a few hundred people were able to see it, creating an atmosphere where the scene was impressive but the sounds were almost non-existent, leaving fighters to say it felt like a sparring session. This time, seats were sold and many were occupied well into the second deck of the 14,000-seat stadium, which had its retractable roof closed to create comfortable conditions on a humid day. And the fans saw good action early in a brilliant performance from Stevenson, who has been criticized at times for a style that that seems too dependent on avoiding pain and not dishing it out. But he seemed happy to trade Saturday and most times came out ahead when he did. Zepeda did trap Stevenson in a corner to score with some shots in the third round, bringing his Mexican fans out of their seats, but many other times Stevenson's quick head movement allowed him to dodge potential trouble. By the middle of the fight, Stevenson was firing off two, three, sometimes four unreturned shots There was a title change in the previous fight, when Subriel Matias (23-2) edged Alberto Puello (24-1) by majority decision to take the WBC's 140-pound belt. Before that, Cuban David Morrell (12-1) got up from a fifth-round knockdown to rally late and edge Imam Khataev (10-1) by split decision in a light heavyweight bout.

Chelsea vs. PSG: Club World Cup final preview, team updates, predictions and possible lineups
By Aman Shukla Published on July 13, 2025, 09:47 IST Alright, football fans, buckle up! The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Final is about to light up MetLife Stadium in New Jersey this Sunday, July 13, and it's a mouthwatering clash between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). Two European heavyweights, one shiny trophy, and a whole lot of pride on the line. Chelsea are gunning to make history as the first English club to win this thing twice, while PSG are chasing their first-ever Club World Cup crown to cap off a jaw-dropping season. Match Preview This isn't just another game—it's the final of the revamped 32-team Club World Cup, and both teams have fought tooth and nail to get here. Chelsea, led by Enzo Maresca, have been on a roll. They cruised past Fluminense 2-0 in the semi-finals, thanks to new boy João Pedro bagging a brace. The Blues have been building momentum all season, fresh off their UEFA Conference League win and locking in a Champions League spot for next year. They're underdogs, sure, but Chelsea have a knack for pulling off miracles when the stakes are high. Then there's PSG, who've been an absolute wrecking ball. Luis Enrique's squad has bulldozed their way through the tournament, smashing Real Madrid 4-0 in the semis and brushing aside Bayern Munich 2-0 in the quarters. Their only slip-up was a group-stage loss to Botafogo, but since then, they've been unstoppable, conceding just one goal all tournament. With a treble already in the bag (Ligue 1, Coupe de France, and Champions League), PSG are the team to beat, and they know it. These two have history, too. They've met eight times before, with PSG edging out Chelsea three wins to two, and three draws. Their last clash was in the 2015-16 Champions League, where PSG knocked Chelsea out 4-2 on aggregate. But finals are a different beast, and Chelsea's never-say-die attitude could make this a proper scrap. Team Updates Chelsea Good news for Chelsea fans: Levi Colwill and Liam Delap are back after serving suspensions. Colwill should slot right into defense alongside Trevoh Chalobah, giving the backline some extra steel. Moises Caicedo's ankle is still a worry, but he's pushing to start. Roméo Lavia and Dario Essugo are touch-and-go with muscle niggles, and Benoit Badiashile's fitness is up in the air. There's also talk of Noni Madueke possibly heading to Arsenal, which might mean he sits this one out. On the bright side, Reece James is back from injury and could reclaim his right-back spot. PSG PSG are missing defenders Lucas Hernández and Willian Pacho, who are still banned after picking up red cards against Bayern. Lucas Beraldo's been solid stepping in, though, and didn't break a sweat against Real Madrid. Ousmane Dembélé's shaken off any fitness doubts and looks ready to wreak havoc. Luis Enrique's got no new injuries to worry about, so expect his midfield trio of João Neves, Vitinha, and Fabián Ruiz to run the show. Possible Lineups Chelsea (4-2-3-1) Goalkeeper : Robert Sánchez Defenders : Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, Marc Cucurella Midfielders : Moises Caicedo (if fit), Enzo Fernández Attacking Midfielders : Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku Forward: João Pedro PSG (4-3-3) Goalkeeper : Gianluigi Donnarumma Defenders : Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Lucas Beraldo, Nuno Mendes Midfielders : Fabián Ruiz, Vitinha, João Neves Forwards: Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia Prediction: Who Will Win? Look, PSG are the favorites, and it's not hard to see why. The stats gurus give them a 64.4% chance of winning, and after demolishing Real Madrid and Bayern, they look like a team on a mission. Their attack is electric, their defense is watertight, and they've got that big-game mentality. But don't count Chelsea out. They've got a history of upsetting the odds in finals, and with João Pedro firing and Cole Palmer pulling strings, they could nick something. Still, PSG's depth and form are hard to ignore. We reckon they'll come out swinging and take control early. Chelsea might grab a goal to keep things spicy, but PSG's firepower should see them through.
