Tiger Woods and son Charlie footage emerges as Ryder Cup hero makes bold claim
Golfing great Sam Torrance has heaped praise on Tiger Woods and his young son, Charlie, highlighting their strikingly similar approach to the game. The Scottish legend, who clinched four Ryder Cup victories with Team Europe, knows a thing or two about family success in golf, having triumphed at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with his own son, Daniel, in 2003.
The dynamic duo of the Woods family have teed off together five times at the PNC Championship, most recently securing a runner-up spot in the 2024 tournament, just behind Bernhard and Jason Langer.
Torrance, who has previously lauded the pair's bond on the course, remains captivated by Charlie's burgeoning talent, especially after the youngster's victory at the Team TaylorMade Invitational in May.
Speaking exclusively to Mirror US, courtesy of Lottoland, Torrance reiterated his admiration for the teen golfer: "I just know how good the boy is. "When I said that about his father and son thing, I was very lucky to win the Dunhill with my son.
"So I know how special it is to have a boy of your own that can play the game and Charlie looks magnificent."
Torrance also noted the uncanny resemblance between Charlie and his legendary father on the course.
He said: "I mean, if you've seen the clips of the two of them together, it's like little and large. They do exactly the same thing. The way they lean on the putter, the way they swing.
"There's no finer tutor than Tiger Woods to his son. I was very fortunate to have my father teach me my whole life, and there's nothing better than having someone that loves you teaching you."
Woods is expected to be in a familiar setting come August, potentially supporting his son at the AJGA Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass' Players Stadium Course.
This is the same course where Woods celebrated his Players Championship victories in 2001 and 2013, reports the Mirror US.
Torrance, who previously praised Woods' then-13 year old son during the Notah Begay III Junior National Golf Championship, believes the young golfer has an excellent role model and coach in his father.
"There's nothing better (for Tiger) and, christ, he's got a machine there, I think," Torrance stated. "It will be nice to see how that develops because he couldn't get a better coach.
"He'll obviously have all the practice facilities etc he'll ever need. He'll not want for a thing in his life, but he's got a great wee swing and the mannerisms they share is quite extraordinary."

Wave-riding canines take on surf to be named top dog
A surfing competition with a difference drew thousands of spectators to a beach near San Francisco, as dogs of all sizes took to the waves. Labs, terriers and spaniels were among dozens of dogs riding the surf at Pacifica State Beach, about 14 miles south of the city, in the annual World Dog Surfing Championships. They competed against similar-sized dogs for a chance to appear in the finals, while additional heats featured multiple dogs – wearing life vests and often goggles – surfing tandem or riding with people. Once out on the waves, their owners helped them hop on their colourful surf boards as the crowd cheered from the beach. Judges assessed how long the dogs remained on their boards, how long they held their balance, and whether they performed any tricks, like turning around while riding. Iza, a five-year-old French bulldog, won the single surfer heat for medium-size dogs for the first time, her owner David Fasoli said. He said he found 'pure joy' during the pandemic when he brought home a surfboard from his job at Costco and taught Iza to balance in the swimming pool. The two soon started swimming in the sea and learning to ride waves as passers-by watched in awe. Now, their competitions are all about defying expectations. 'I have a disability – I only have one hand – so a non-sporting human combined with a non-sporting dog breed, we are kind of phenomenal, defying the odds of what people think we're capable of doing,' Mr Fasoli said after the competition. Ten-year-old yellow lab Charlie likes surfing so much he will grab his surfboard and run towards the water – his owners sometimes have to hide it to ensure some peace. Charlie, who has his own Instagram page, entered the extra-large single surfer heat. He also rode tandem with two other dogs in what their humans called 'The Dream Team'. Owner Maria Nieboer said: 'He loves the crowd.' Charlie and Ms Nieboer's husband Jeff prepare for waves together. When Mr Nieboer spots a good one, he turns the board around and tells Charlie to 'get ready'. He pushes the board forward, and Charlie scrunches down and rides the wave as long as he can. Charlie can even steer the board by leaning, and surfs towards an awaiting Ms Nieboer on the shore. He does not have to be rewarded with treats for any of it, Mr Nieboer said, adding: 'Charlie does what Charlie wants to do once we're in the water.' Charlie's 'Dream Team' compatriot, fellow yellow lab Rosie, was in four heats. The four-year-old's owner, Steve Drottar, said she is 'stoked' after they go surfing, which they do four to five times a week back home in Santa Cruz. 'It's like, hey, we actually did something today, right? We did something together as a team,' Mr Drottar said. 'The fact that you can do something as a team with your dog creates a different bond than you have when you just take your dog for a walk.' He can tell Rosie feels a sense of accomplishment afterwards because she is extra happy, wags her tail extra hard and snuggles even more than usual, he said. 'It's like we go home on the couch and it feels like she's saying 'Thank-you'.'

Transport bosses called on Oasis Edinburgh gigs to finish earlier 'to save putting on extra trains'
Concert bosses dismissed the request amid fears Liam and Noel Gallagher would re-think their Scottish shows It is less than a week until Oasis begin their run of three nights at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium as part of their hotly-anticipated reunion tour. But it seems it is transport and timings that are dominating officials' conversations. Transport bosses asked for Oasis' shows in the capital to wrap up earlier than scheduled to avoid putting on extra trains, according to the Sun. Officials reportedly asked the show curfew to be brought forward from 10:45pm amid fears of "disorder" after the music spectacle. Gig promoters DF Concerts and Murrayfield Stadium chiefs allegedly dismissed the request as "any changes could/would likely impact on an artists' willingness to perform." Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallagher are set to electrify the Scottish rugby stronghold for three nights on Friday, August 8, Saturday, August 9, and Tuesday, August 12. Last year, a transport summit was called after the gigs were announced. Documents obtained by the Sun via Freedom of Information laws show how Transport Scotland's events resilience team asked for the earlier curfew in a bid to avoid the need to lay on more late-night train services. An official wrote: "I asked if there was any consideration or scope in bringing end times forward slightly to minimise the necessity on enhanced/extended public transport. "This was met with a somewhat vociferous response by DF Concerts and to a degree SR Murrayfield." In response to the reports, Transport Scotland blasted critics, telling the Record they would be "the first to complain" if transport bosses didn't "challenge travel plans and understand potential impacts on the wider network". A spokesperson said: "Scotland has a good track record of supporting major events like the Cycling World Championships, COP 26, and many other sporting events, festivals and concerts. "ScotRail is putting on extra services and seats during the Edinburgh Festival and for these concerts, including late-night trains to key destinations. "The main reason Scotland has such a successful reputation for delivering these global events is due to close working between Police Scotland, Councils and transport operators, as well as event organisers. "It is our role to challenge travel plans and understand potential impacts on the wider network to allow for business as usual, as well as encourage extra services to be laid on, our critics would be the first to complain if we didn't." DF Concerts and Murrayfield have been contacted for comment. Official stage times for Edinburgh have yet to be published, but organisers expect gates will open at 5pm on each show day, with the curfew expected to be 10.45pm, to accommodate the 67,000 fans descending each night. However, it is worth noting that London's Wembley Stadium's curfew changed between the Oasis concert landing on a weekday and a weekend. On the Friday and Saturday, July 25 and 26, the curfew was 10.45pm, but it changed to 10.30pm for the shows on Wednesday, July 30, and tonight's gig, Sunday, August 3. On Friday, August 1, City of Edinburgh Council leader Cllr Jane Meagher confirmed additional transport services would be available via tram, rail, and bus routes. Nonetheless, she cautioned gig-goers to conduct themselves appropriately and advised those without tickets to steer clear. "Whilst we relish hosting the biggest and best events and want everyone attending to truly enjoy themselves, it's important that we remember our residents," Cllr Meagher said. "We ask that visitors are considerate and respectful of them whilst enjoying our fantastic capital city. "He's not exceptional at flicking on or in aerial duels to provide a point of support, but when it comes to finishing with his head, he's effective.
