Drop review – Meghann Fahy stars in scary smartphone thriller
Having reluctantly left her young son in the care of her sister, Violet (Meghann Fahy) arrives at an upmarket restaurant for a first date with a charming photographer named Henry (Brandon Sklenar). But from the outset something is off. Violet is bombarded by a series of increasingly threatening 'digi-drops' (an AirDrop, or wireless file transfer, to all intents and purposes). The messages warn of harm to her son unless she does exactly what she is told – and her instructions include committing a murder. There's a 50ft radius in which to send or receive a digi-drop, so the sender must be in the restaurant. But since every punter in the place is glued to their phones, that doesn't narrow it down much. Violet must use her well-honed survival instincts to make it through to the dessert course. It's enjoyable stuff: a taut and crisply edited balance between humour and horror.

Pregnant Katherine Ryan shows off her growing bump in a dazzling turquoise dress as she attends the UK premiere of Freakier Friday with her daughter Violet, 16
Katherine Ryan showcased her growing bump as she attended the UK premiere of Freakier Friday at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square with her daughter Violet on Thursday. The comedian, 42, who is expecting her fourth child with husband Bobby Kootstra, already has son Fred, four, as well as daughters Violet, 16, and Fenna, two. Arriving at the glitzy event, Katherine looked elegant in a figure-hugging light blue disco ball dress which featured a square neckline and thin straps. She added inches to her frame as she slipped into a pair of silver strappy sandals and toted her belongings around in a satin pink clutch. Meanwhile Violet put on a stylish display in a black gown which featured cut-out side panels and spaghetti straps. To finish her look, the teenager accessorised with gold platform heels as she carried a simple gold clutch. Katherine, who initially announced her pregnancy last month, has been open about her fertility struggles in recent years, revealing in 2024 that she had had three miscarriages in five years. Speaking in November, Katherine admitted she would love to have more kids – but was worried about her age. 'I'm old. I used to think I was going to be the babies' dad because I'm working but actually I'm like their grandmother,' she quipped at the time. 'My back hurts, sometimes I give them treats. I'm like a fun grandma.' The TV star revealed in 2022 that she had kept her second pregnancy a secret because she was scared it would lead to her losing work. She was eight months pregnant when she presented ITV's Ready To Mingle, a fact that she hid from everyone. Katherine and her husband Bobby have been together since 2018, but have known each other since they were children as they grew up together in Canada. Childhood sweethearts, the two parted ways initially before rekindling their romance this side of the Atlantic. The couple revealed in the latest series of the family's reality show that they 'wanted the option of having a fourth [child].' To finish her look, the teenager accessorised with gold platform heels as she carried a simple gold clutch 'It's not that surprising that over 40 women have fewer follicles than we once did,' said Katherine. 'But we talk a lot about male fertility as well, which is on a steep decline. But I would still like a fourth baby. The series saw the couple exploring their marriage through therapy before visiting a fertility clinic. Katherine admitted in the scenes which aired in February that she knew conceiving a fourth child would be challenging thanks to both her and Bobby's age. 'We are so blessed to have the kids that we do have. Having children is not for everyone, but I personally really like making people. I think it's a superpower if you can do it.' She explained at the time how she and her husband had never previously struggled with getting pregnant but had suffered multiple losses. 'We've always gotten pregnant with the babies quite quickly. I've been pregnant five times in five years, but that also means I've had three miscarriages in five years and the likelihood of that increases as you get older,' she explained.

Jennifer Garner reunites with daughter Violet Affleck, 19, MONTHS after teen detailed their blow up argument
Jennifer Garner played the cool mom, treating her eldest child, Violet, and some friends to coffee in Los Angeles on Sunday morning. The mother and daughter duo seemed to have put any differences behind them following an essay Violet, 19, wrote about the Pacific Palisades fires and climate change while at Yale last semester. Garner, 53, seemed to fit in right in with her young guests, wearing a white and gold striped golf shirt with a pair of high waist white pants. The Family Switch star kept her footwear casual, opting for a pair of brown leather sandals. Garner's long chestnut locks were styled straight and she wore natural looking makeup with a neutral red lip. The Elektra star wore dark square framed sunglasses and carried a cup of coffee and a green notebook. Violet, who is a near carbon-copy of her mother, looked relaxed wearing a white cotton T-shirt with a pair of ankle length straight leg jeans with square pockets on the front. The university student stepped out in black and white sneakers. Her long, dark blonde hair was styled straight and she appeared to be wearing minimal makeup beneath her square framed glasses. The teen carried a white furry purse with a brown strap and was seen carrying a white medical mask as well. In July 2024, Violet advocated for the wearing of masks before the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors after she 'contracted a post-viral condition in 2019.' 'I'm okay now, but I saw firsthand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses,' she told the lawmakers. 'The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown that into sharp relief. One in 10 infections lead to long Covid, which is a devastating neurological cardiovascular illness that can take away people's ability to work, move, see, and even think.' She also pointed out that those hardest hit by the virus were 'communities of color, disabled people, elderly people, trans people, anyone in a public-facing essential job.' Violet, 19, who is a near carbon-copy of her mother, looked relaxed wearing a white cotton T-shirt with a pair of ankle length straight leg jeans with square pockets on the front The teen continued her public advocacy when an essay she turned into her university's Global Health Review which was titled A Chronically Ill Earth: COVID Organizing as a Model Climate Response in Los Angeles. She began the paper with the attention catching, 'I spent the January fires in Los Angeles arguing with my mother in a hotel room. She was shell-shocked, astonished at the scale of destruction in the neighborhood where she raised myself and my siblings.' The essay continued to compare climate change to the global Covid-19 pandemic, arguing that 'our bewildered response to crises like the LA fires tell us we may still be accustomed to addressing the climate crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic: as a question of how fast we can get back around to pretending like the problem is gone.' Neither Garner, nor Violet's dad Ben Affleck, 52, has commented on the paper. Last year during an interview with People, Garner got candid about raising her three kids and shared that she found it 'hard' to let them make their own decisions as they get older. 'I'm just watching them in this new phase of life where they're figuring out who they're going to be and what they're going to study,' she explained. 'And I'm so interested in them. All the time, I'm interested in everything about them.' The actress later admitted to the outlet, 'I have a really hard time not saying, "This is what I see you as," and "I think you should." I really have to sit on my hand.'
