'Kuldeep Yadav is India's next best attacking option after Jasprit Bumrah': Ex-Australia captain slams shock Edgbaston selections
Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir (Getty Images) NEW DELHI: Former Australia captain Aaron Finch has questioned India's team selection for the second Test at Edgbaston, expressing surprise over the exclusion of premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah and in-form spinner Kuldeep Yadav . India made three changes to their playing XI, bringing in Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Akash Deep in place of Shardul Thakur, Sai Sudharsan, and Jasprit Bumrah. England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bowl. Reacting on social media, Finch wrote: 'If Bumrah was fit to play then surely you need to pick the best bowler in the world? At the very least Kuldeep has to be in the XI if you're worried about taking 20 wickets. Yes, he might be more expensive but he's the next best attacking option!' Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Finch's remarks echoed the sentiments of many fans and experts who were stunned by India's selection decisions. Bumrah, widely regarded as one of the world's best all-format bowlers, was left out despite being reportedly fit. Kuldeep, India's standout spinner in the first Test, also missed out on selection. With India trailing 0-1 in the five-match series, the absence of two key wicket-taking options has sparked intense debate. When Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir looked at the pitch to decide India Playing XI After being put in to bat, India's stand-in skipper Shubman Gill explained the reasoning: "Would've bowled first as well. If there's anything in the wicket, it's on the first day. Three changes - Reddy, Washi and Akash Deep come in. No Bumrah. Just to manage his workload. We did get a good break, and this is an important match for us. But the third Test being at Lord's, we think there'll be more in that pitch, so we'll use him there. We were tempted to play Kuldeep, but looking at the last match, our lower order didn't do well, so we decided to add some depth to the batting. Jasprit Bumrah blamed as 'surprising' act laid bare after Edgbaston omission: 'You keep those cards close to your chest'
Amid the rising criticism over the Indian team management resting Jasprit Bumrah for the second Test match against England in Birmingham, former England fast bowler Stuart Broad blamed the 31-year-old for his "surprising" act before the start of the series. India's Jasprit Bumrah during the warm up before the match(Action Images via Reuters) BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar confirmed at the time of the announcement of the Test squad for the England tour that Bumrah would play just three of the five Test matches in the series to manage his workload. The fast bowler had incurred back spasms during the tour of Australia earlier this year, which resulted in him missing the Champions Trophy. Later, in an interview with Dinesh Karthik for Sky Sports right before the start of the Test series, Bumrah revealed that he first communicated with the BCCI to discuss his workload management after sensing that he was being considered for the leadership role. ALSO READ: Sunil Gavaskar explodes over Kuldeep Yadav snub, exposes Gautam Gambhir's blunder: 'Nitish Reddy, Sundar won't fix that' "I called the BCCI and said I don't want to be looked at in a leadership role because I won't be able to give [it my] all Test matches coming a five Test-match series. So then, yes, the BCCI was looking at me at leadership. But then I had to say no," he said. Broad outlined Bumrah's statement, saying that he should not have made his plan to play just three Test matches in England public. Admitting it was a "surprising" decision from India to rest Bumrah at Edgbaston after his performance in Leeds, Broad, speaking to Sky Cricket, said what was more baffling to him was the fast bowler's decision to reveal his plan, which he felt should have been kept a secret. MUST READ: Why India, England players are wearing black armbands in Birmingham Test? 'A week is a very good time off for a fast bowler. '[Bumrah's omission] does surprise me and what also surprised me was him saying before the series he will only play three of the five Tests,' he said after Akash Deep replaced the 31-year-old in the playing XI. 'You keep those cards close to your chest and play each week as it comes. 'They will definitely want Bumrah at Lord's because of the movement you can get through the air." Earlier on Tuesday, in the pre-match presser, India captain Shubman Gill had said that Bumrah, who picked up a five-wicket haul in the first Test, was available for selection. However, India decided to rest him in Birmingham to keep him fresh for the third Test at the Lord's. "Just to manage his workload. We did get a good break and this is an important match for us. But the third Test being at Lord's, we think there'll be more in that pitch so we'll use him there," Gill explained after losing the toss.

'I shouldn't just say no to any collab like that': Pokimane addresses creator controversy and regrets
Image via: Getty In November 2023, Imane 'Pokimane' Anys, one of Twitch's most prominent content creators, joined their ranks when she announced her cookie brand, Myna Snacks. The reception was anything but sweet. Fans and critics alike couldn't believe the exorbitant pricing of the product $28 for a four-pack of cookies. On her first livestream after launch, Pokimane went on the offensive against her critics, quote-tweeting complaints with responses such as 'If you're a broke boy, just say so.' The backlash, especially from her fanbase, was as swift as it was vicious, with critics accusing Beyoncé of dumbing down her supporters. A Shift in Tone Two Years Later Fast forward to June 29, 2025, almost two years after the fact, Pokimane put out an ambitious and deeply personal 25 minute video called setting the record straight about your assumptions on her YouTube channel. In that video, for the first time, she spoke about how the Myna Snacks fallout had continued to affect her, how it made her question herself, and how emotionally draining it was. 'I feel like now that it's been two years, and I've been able to really think about it, think about the mistakes I made… I've moved from like, 'Oh my God, keep me away from those kinds of things,'' she admitted. From Regret to Reflection Although she would later say the whole thing was 'a little traumatizing,' Pokimane identified it as an important crash course in branding 101 (branding, timing, and communication). Instead of completely giving up on all future brand collaborations, today she has learned to be more discerning and intentional. 'I shouldn't just say no to any collab like that,' she explained. 'But I really should learn from the past and know when would be the right time to do it, and how to do it right.' The Internet Is Mad At Pokimane Again… Pokimane's comments, thankfully, reflect a move beyond purely defensive frustration into a more thoughtful introspection. In the aftermath, she seems much more receptive to future partnerships with a reemphasized attention to authenticity, timing, and audience alignment. The Myna Snacks saga is a cautionary tale in the sense that the expectations are so high for creators that decide to become entrepreneurs. Pokimane's story serves as a reminder that stone behaviors can quickly shatter glass ambitions, a balance she seems better equipped to navigate moving forward.
