Former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Henry Ruggs III received a special release from prison Tuesday to speak at a Hope for Prisoners event in Las Vegas.
At the event, Ruggs apologized to the family of Tina Tintor, a 23-year-old woman he killed in a car crash on Nov. 2, 2021.
"I wish I could turn back the hands of time," Ruggs said when asked what he would tell the family in a video taken by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "I would love for them to meet the real Henry Ruggs and not the one that was escaping from something."
Ruggs later clarified he was "escaping" the pressure that came with being a first-round pick, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Ruggs traveled at speeds of up to 156 mph in Las Vegas on the night of the fatal crash and had a blood alcohol content of 0.161, more than twice the legal limit in Nevada.
Tintor and her dog, Max, were burned to death after Ruggs' Chevrolet Corvette slammed into the rear of her Toyota RAV-4. Ruggs and his girlfriend – Kiara Kilgo-Washington, who goes by Rudy Washington – suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.
Ruggs pleaded guilty to felony DUI causing death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter in May 2023. He is serving a 3- to 10-year prison sentence and lamented the notoriety of his case in his Tuesday apology to Tintor's family.
"I sincerely apologize for not only being a part of that situation, but the fact my face is always in the news, it's always in the newspaper," Ruggs said. "So they have to constantly be reminded of the situation, be reminded of me. Those memories have to continue to rise because of all of the fame and the notoriety I have, which I never asked for. I never liked. I would just tell them that like I said I deeply apologize for being a part of that."
Ruggs is eligible for parole beginning Aug. 5, 2026, per records from the Nevada Department of Corrections. He must be considered for parole release no later than July 4, 2027.
The 26-year-old was asked whether he would potentially like to return to the NFL in the future. His response?
"Yes, I would love to," Ruggs said. "I'm in this newfound spiritual space, and I'm confident in who I am and what I can do, so, when the time comes, I'm sure I'll be ready."

"I hope the authorities in Brazil and the world understand that the blood on my face and my body flows through the hands of those who still see femicide as a statistic and they don't do enough to change it." Mello's most recent social media post on the Instagram platform that included Pepey was less than a month ago and included a slide show of many photos of the couple together. But her Thursday post painted a very different story. Pepey (14-7), from Fortaleza, was on Season 1 of "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil" in 2012. He lost the featherweight final to Rony Jason, then went on to 10 more fights in the UFC with a mixed bag that left him 5-6 overall in the promotion. But a stretch in 2014-2014 on the heels of back-to-back losses saw him go on a yearlong surge of three straight first-round finishes – and three straight post-fight performance bonuses, including one for a triangle choke finish of Andre Fili in the most standout moment of his career. Pepey was cut loose from the UFC after three losses in four fights, though, in 2018. Mass. man stabbed in the head with a fork, another man facing 1 charge, police say
A Milford man faces charges in connection with a man who was stabbed in the head with a fork, Milford police said Monday. Wilson Javier Guasco Morocho faces one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, police said in a statement. At around 10:17 p.m. on Friday, Milford police received a call from a man speaking in Spanish who said he was stabbed in the head, the statement read. Officers arrived in the area of Main Street and found a 26-year-old man bleeding from his head. He told officers that he was stabbed 'with what he believed was a fork,' police said. While officers were with a man, nearby patrol units found a man matching the description of the attacker, police said. Officers approached the man, Morocho, near the Milford town park and arrested him. Mass. man charged with murder in connection with woman's death in fatal stabbing
A Mattapan man hurt during what officials called a 'domestic violence incident,' where a woman was fatally stabbed in Brockton, pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Wednesday, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz's office said. Reynald Biamby, 44, was charged with one count of murder during his arraignment in Brockton District Court, where a judge ordered he be held without bail, Cruz's office said in a statement. He is next scheduled to appear at a probable cause hearing on Aug. 5. At around 4:15 a.m., a 911 call to Brockton police asked officers to respond to 341 Centre St., Cruz's office said. First responders found the body of a woman, Rose Lacroix, 36, upon arrival. She was pronounced dead. Biamby was hurt and hospitalized, Cruz's office said. Following an investigation by Massachusetts State Police assigned to Cruz's office, a warrant was obtained for Biamby's arrest. Biamby was arrested after he was released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
