TEHRAN, July 13: Iranian authorities on Saturday carried out a public execution of a man convicted of raping and murdering a young girl, according to the judiciary.
The victim's family, from the northwestern city of Bukan, participated in the legal process and formally requested that the execution be conducted publicly, the judiciary's official news outlet, Mizan Online, reported.
"The case received special attention due to the emotional impact it had on the public," said Naser Atabati, the provincial chief justice, as quoted by Mizan.
The man was sentenced to death in March, and the verdict was later upheld by Iran's Supreme Court.
Atabati stated that the public execution was carried out "at the request of the victim's family and local citizens, given the strong emotional response the case provoked in society."
While public executions—usually by hanging—are not routine in Iran, they are carried out in cases considered particularly severe.
Under Iranian law, crimes such as murder and rape are punishable by death. Iran remains the world's second-highest executioner after China, according to human rights organizations including Amnesty International.

Massive Arms Haul Exposes Iran's Direct Role in Yemen Conflict

SANA, July 17: Tariq Saleh, a member of Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council and commander of the West Coast forces, announced the interception of a major weapons shipment following monitoring and surveillance conducted by the intelligence division of the National Resistance. According to Saleh, the seized cache included naval and air missile systems, an air defense system, advanced radars, drones, surveillance equipment, anti-tank missiles, B-10 artillery, tracking lenses, sniper rifles, ammunition, and various military hardware. Saleh reaffirmed his commitment to countering the activities of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the region. Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command confirmed that Yemeni forces had confiscated over 750 tons of munitions and military equipment, which included hundreds of sophisticated anti-ship missiles, drones, warheads, radar systems, communications gear, and search devices. Commenting on the development, Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani described the seizure as the largest Iranian weapons shipment intercepted to date, destined for the Houthi militia. He added that the presence of Persian-language operating manuals among the cargo underscores Iran's direct role in fueling regional instability. Al-Eryani stressed that the Houthi militia serves merely as a local proxy for the Revolutionary Guard's broader expansionist ambitions deep within Yemeni territory.

Gas leak explosion injures seven in Iranian city of Qom

DUBAI, July 14: An explosion at a residential building in the Iranian city of Qom injured seven people, Iranian state media reported on Monday. Authorities have attributed the blast to a gas leak and ruled out any involvement of terrorism. Qom Governor Akbar Behnamjoo emphasized that the incident was not linked to any terrorist activity. The explosion occurred in the Pardisan neighborhood, damaging four residential units, according to the city's fire department. 'The initial investigations indicate that a gas leak caused the explosion, and follow-up inquiries are ongoing,' the fire department director told the semi-official Fars news agency. This incident comes shortly after a series of gas explosions in Iran following a recent 12-day air conflict last month involving attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities by Israel and the United States. Despite the tensions, Iranian officials have not blamed Israel for the recent domestic incidents.
