Police in Malta have named the Welsh man who tragically died after falling from a hotel balcony on the holiday island. Local media reported that a British tourist died in the early hours of Friday, July 11, after the fall in St Julian's, a popular holiday spot on the Mediterranean island.
He has been named as 25-year-old Kieran Thomas Hughes who was born in Bangor. Medics were called to the scene on Triq Spinola at around 4.15am but it is understood that Mr Hughes was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office confirmed they were in contact with local authorities regarding the death.
Messages of support for Mr Hughes' family and friends were issued after it was reported that the man who died was from Gwynedd.
Liz Saville Roberts, MP for Dwyfor Meirionnydd, said: "Heartbreaking news. My heart goes out to the young man's family at this extremely difficult time."
Senedd member Sian Gwenllian added: "News of the death of a 25-year-old from Gwynedd in Malta is truly devastating. The pain his family must be experiencing is unimaginable.
"My thoughts, and those of the people of Gwynedd, are with the family in their grief."

Watch live: Fall River fire chief update on deadly Gabriel House assisted living fire

The cause of the deadly fire at the Gabriel House assisted living home in Fall River, Massachusetts is still unknown, but investigators said Wednesday they've made "significant progress." Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon will hold a news conference at 1 p.m. You can watch it live on CBS News Boston in the video above. Nine residents were killed and 30 more were hurt in the fire Sunday night. It was the deadliest fire in Massachusetts in 41 years. Fall River Mayor Paul Coogan said the owner of the facility, Dennis Etzkorn, has stopped cooperating. Etzkorn hasn't replied to multiple requests for comment from CBS News and WBZ-TV. State Police fire investigators working with the State Fire Marshal's office are trying to determine how and where the fire started. "This can be a difficult task depending on the extent of the damage, which was pretty severe in parts of the building," Jake Wark, a spokesman for the state Department of Fire Services, said in a statement Wednesday. "Nonetheless, they've made significant progress based on an examination of the scene, interviews with residents and other witnesses, a review of available video footage from the area, and other sources." The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious at this point in the investigation, Wark said. "Investigators have not narrowed the potential factors down to the single cause necessary for a conclusive determination and I don't expect anything for at least a few days," he said. Authorities are taking a closer look at inspection records for Gabriel House. WBZ-TV's I-Team learned that state inspectors had not been there since October 2023. The last city inspection was completed on October 15, 2024. That certificate was due to expire on October 15, 2025.

Grieving Caitlyn Jenner seen for first time since tragic death of longtime friend and manager, Sophia Hutchins

Caitlyn Jenner was spotted for the first time since losing her longtime friend and manager, Sophia Hutchins, in a tragic accident. Photos showed Jenner grabbing some Starbucks all by her lonesome in Malibu, Calif., on Thursday. Jenner seemed to be in a good mood as she smiled and waved for the paparazzi in the parking lot before she got into her car where Hutchins' dog, Hutchens, was waiting for her. Jenner wore a short sleeve light blue T-shirt and light denim distressed shorts. She finished her look with gray sneakers, tall white socks, a black purse and a visor. The former Olympian, 75, was later spotted on Friday getting consoled by friends as she went for a grocery run in her neighborhood. Jenner was pictured wearing a light blue long sleeve shirt and gray track pants for the food store outing. In the photos obtained by Page Six, she could be seen leaving the grocery store with Hutchins' mother where they bumped into two women in the parking lot. At one point, one of the ladies dressed in a black romper was seen giving Jenner a hug as they exchanged words. Jenner notably wore a pair of black shades for both outings. Hutchins, who was 29 at the time of her death, was driving near Jenner's $3.5 million Malibu condo when her ATV collided with the bumper of a moving car. The impact caused Hutchins and her ATV vehicle to fall off the road and down a 350-foot ravine, police sources told the outlet. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. No one else was injured. Footage of the incident, which aired on Wednesday afternoon, showed the mangled blue ATV sitting atop an upside-down vehicle that had previously crashed in the same spot. Hutchins met the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' alum, 75, through their mutual hairstylist in 2015. 'We met through our hairstylists. He was doing my hair one day and was like, 'I'm going to a photoshoot after this, something with Caitlyn and MAC. And Caitlyn would like to meet you,'' Hutchins, who previously referred to Jenner as her 'partner in life,' recalled to 'Juicy Scoop' podcast listeners in 2020. Jenner has not yet issued a statement regarding Hutchins' tragic passing.
