Govt targets ₹1 trillion farm economy in J&K by 2030, says LG Manoj Sinha
Addressing the closing Ceremony of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan at SKUAST Kashmir's Mountain Research Centre for Field Crops at Khudwani-Kulgam in south Kashmir, Sinha said it is a comprehensive strategy, designed to make J&K UT a robust Rs 1 trillion agricultural economy by 2030.
In his address, the Lieutenant Governor lauded the valuable contribution of those associated with the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan for marking a transformative step, through this initiative, toward building a resilient, modern, and prosperous agricultural landscape in the Union Territory.
"Let us walk together towards a future where every field blooms with prosperity, every farmer thrives with dignity and every village becomes a symbol of development. With Sankalp (resolve) comes Shakti (strength) and with Shakti comes Vikas (development)," he added.
The Lieutenant Governor reiterated the commitment of J&K Administration, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to build a stronger farm economy, increasing rural employment opportunities and enhancing farmer's income. J&K had launched a similar initiative in 2022 through Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP).
Sinha highlighted several targeted initiatives taken by the administration for the upliftment of the forest-dwelling tribal communities and those engaged in agriculture and allied sectors.
He said J&K also has a special focus on the development of our tribal farming communities, Gujjars, Bakarwals, Paharis, and other STs, who are the custodians of our forests, mountains and traditional wisdom.
"The active participation from every district in Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan reflects our collective commitment to a self-reliant J&K.
Let us continue this spirit of progress and partnership to ensure sustainable growth and improved livelihoods for our farming communities," the LG said.
He called upon officials and scientists to ensure that the awareness, reforms and outreach achieved through this campaign become embedded in our systems and governance frameworks.
Responding to the issues raised by the farmers, the LG asked the Agriculture Minister of J&K to address the issue of the extension of benefits under PM Fasal Bima Yojana to Farmers associated with the horticulture sector on a priority basis.
A two-minute silence was observed in the memory of citizens who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack.

Congress demands judicial probe into Kottayam Medical College building collapse
Kottayam: The Congress party in Kerala on Friday demanded a judicial probe into the Kottayam Medical College building collapse incident. The building in the government medical college collapsed on Thursday morning, killing a woman and injuring two people. State Congress president Sunny Joseph and numerous other state party leaders reached the hospital complex to see for themselves what happened. "We demand a judicial probe into the entire episode. District Collector is conducting a probe, but it is not acceptable as he is also indirectly involved and hence a probe by him will not suffice," said Joseph. "We also demand that adequate compensation be given to the family of the 56-year-old Bindhu, who died in the incident. Bindhu's daughter is studying nursing, and the state government should make fee arrangements and ensure she is given a government job. Bindhu visited the hospital for her daughter's surgery. The state government should bear the expense of the treatment," said Joseph. Joseph strongly condemned the police for registering a case against party legislator Chandy Oommen, who was at the site of the tragedy and was demanding urgent rescue operations. Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan said the state Health Department under Minister Veena George is on a ventilator. "The best way out for George is to resign, as under her, no action has been taken on rejuvenating the health sector," said Satheesan. Meanwhile, at the partially completed home of Bindhu, her son was crestfallen as he had received his first salary, which he wanted to hand over to his mother. "I am sick and am unable to do any work, while it was Bindhu who used to get Rs 300 per day, who was running our home. Our son got his first salary on Thursday and was waiting to give it to Bindhu. Till 10 a.m., she was with me. This should not happen to anyone," wailed Bindhu's husband. The Kottayam District Collector on Friday reached the home of Bindhu and assured that the government will do everything it can. Meanwhile security of Health Minister George has been stepped up on Friday morning, who is facing backlash from political parties. The maximum ire is against her and State Cooperation Minister V.N. Vasavan, as both reached the spot after hearing about the collapse of the building and categorically stated that only two people have suffered minor injuries. "The ministers claimed that the building was not in use. It was Oommen who was present at the scene, intervened and raised an alarm, and after that, rescue operations began," the Congress party in Kerala said. With the Vijayan government on the back foot, the media have now been barred from entering the collapsed building site. The Congress party has decided to start a protest from July 8 against the "failure" of the Vijayan government to address various health sector issues. State BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said this was a tragedy that could have been avoided. "This tragedy is what we see as an honour killing, as two State Ministers were there and they failed to act, which resulted in the death of Bindhu. The state government should file a case against both these Ministers, and we are launching a protest to see that it's done," said Chandrasekhar.

China Sends Weapons to Pakistan: India Calls It a Security Threat
India says there is a big problem with Pakistan. On April 22, 2025, there was a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. 26 people died. India answered with a military plan called Operation Sindoor. Indian forces attacked 9 terror camps in Pakistan and in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). More than 100 terrorists were killed. These terrorists were from groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. India used technology and spy reports to find the right places to attack. At first, they found 21 targets. Then they picked the best 9 targets to hit. India also said that 81% of Pakistan's weapons come from China. China is giving guns, fighter planes, drones, and other machines to Pakistan. India thinks China is using Pakistan to test new weapons during real fights. India also said China gave live data to Pakistan during the attack. Turkey also helped Pakistan in some ways. A report says that since 2015, China sold $8.2 billion in weapons to Pakistan. Most of Pakistan's fighter planes are from China. These planes include the JF-17 and J-10C. Pakistan may soon get 40 J-35 stealth planes, which are hard to find on radar. A new report by the U.S. Defence Agency in 2025 says that India sees China as the main enemy. Pakistan is also a threat, but a smaller one.
