Govt targets ₹1 trillion farm economy in J&K by 2030, says LG Manoj Sinha
Addressing the closing Ceremony of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan at SKUAST Kashmir's Mountain Research Centre for Field Crops at Khudwani-Kulgam in south Kashmir, Sinha said it is a comprehensive strategy, designed to make J&K UT a robust Rs 1 trillion agricultural economy by 2030.
In his address, the Lieutenant Governor lauded the valuable contribution of those associated with the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan for marking a transformative step, through this initiative, toward building a resilient, modern, and prosperous agricultural landscape in the Union Territory.
"Let us walk together towards a future where every field blooms with prosperity, every farmer thrives with dignity and every village becomes a symbol of development. With Sankalp (resolve) comes Shakti (strength) and with Shakti comes Vikas (development)," he added.
The Lieutenant Governor reiterated the commitment of J&K Administration, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to build a stronger farm economy, increasing rural employment opportunities and enhancing farmer's income. J&K had launched a similar initiative in 2022 through Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP).
Sinha highlighted several targeted initiatives taken by the administration for the upliftment of the forest-dwelling tribal communities and those engaged in agriculture and allied sectors.
He said J&K also has a special focus on the development of our tribal farming communities, Gujjars, Bakarwals, Paharis, and other STs, who are the custodians of our forests, mountains and traditional wisdom.
"The active participation from every district in Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan reflects our collective commitment to a self-reliant J&K.
Let us continue this spirit of progress and partnership to ensure sustainable growth and improved livelihoods for our farming communities," the LG said.
He called upon officials and scientists to ensure that the awareness, reforms and outreach achieved through this campaign become embedded in our systems and governance frameworks.
Responding to the issues raised by the farmers, the LG asked the Agriculture Minister of J&K to address the issue of the extension of benefits under PM Fasal Bima Yojana to Farmers associated with the horticulture sector on a priority basis.
A two-minute silence was observed in the memory of citizens who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack.

Congress demands judicial probe into Kottayam Medical College building collapse
Kottayam: The Congress party in Kerala on Friday demanded a judicial probe into the Kottayam Medical College building collapse incident. The building in the government medical college collapsed on Thursday morning, killing a woman and injuring two people. State Congress president Sunny Joseph and numerous other state party leaders reached the hospital complex to see for themselves what happened. "We demand a judicial probe into the entire episode. "The ministers claimed that the building was not in use. It was Oommen who was present at the scene, intervened and raised an alarm, and after that, rescue operations began," the Congress party in Kerala said. With the Vijayan government on the back foot, the media have now been barred from entering the collapsed building site. The Congress party has decided to start a protest from July 8 against the "failure" of the Vijayan government to address various health sector issues. State BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar said this was a tragedy that could have been avoided. "This tragedy is what we see as an honour killing, as two State Ministers were there and they failed to act, which resulted in the death of Bindhu. The state government should file a case against both these Ministers, and we are launching a protest to see that it's done," said Chandrasekhar.

A new report by the U.S. Defence Agency in 2025 says that India sees China as the main enemy. Pakistan is also a threat, but a smaller one.

Kashmir is crown of India, people awaiting fellow countrymen with open hearts: Shivraj
Srinagar, July 4 (UNI) Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan today described Kashmir as the 'crown jewel of India' and 'heaven on earth', saying its people are eagerly waiting to welcome fellow countrymen without fear or hesitation. 'I have been in Srinagar since yesterday, among the people, feeling the cool breeze, the earthy fragrance of the soil, and the unmatched warmth of the locals. This land fills the heart with love. Truly, Kashmir is the crown of India and the heaven on earth,' Chouhan told media after attending the sixth convocation ceremony of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-K), Srinagar, where he was the chief guest. Chouhan urged people across the country to visit Kashmir. 'I would like to tell my fellow countrymen that the people of this place are waiting for them with a loving heart. Let us come here without any fear, without any hesitation, and let us set a new example of brotherhood and love,' he said. Emphasising the Centre's commitment to a prosperous Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Minister highlighted the government's vision of transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a horticulture hub, especially for apples, almonds, and walnuts. 'We are establishing a state-of-the-art Clean Plant Centre with an investment of Rs 150 crore to ensure disease-free, high-quality planting material. This will allow our farmers to compete globally,' he said. He added that private nurseries will be supported through subsidies, and a tissue culture lab dedicated to saffron cultivation will also be set up. 'Our goal is to bring world-class technology and support to every farmer in the valley,' the minister said. Focusing on rural development, Chouhan stressed that no poor person will be left house ledd in in Jammu and Kashmir. 'Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, a survey of 5 lakh people has been conducted. Eligible beneficiaries will receive housing support after verification,' he assured. The minister also reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to infrastructure development in the region.
