Op Mahadev: 3 Pak terrorists neutralised in Dachigam forest encounter in Srinagar
Srinagar senior superintendent of police GV Sundeep Chakravarty said that the three terrorists were Pakistani nationals and belonged to the banned Lashkar-e-Toiba. He, however, did not confirm if they had a role in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead. 'We are identifying them and ascertaining that (their role in the Baisaran meadow), ' he said.
Earlier, the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army posted on its official X account that Operation Mahadev is underway between Indian Army personnel and 'high-value foreign terrorists' in the dense Dachigam forest.
Along with the Indian Army, teams from the CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police are also involved in Operation Mahadev.
Latest reports said that the security forces intercepted movement of the terrorists in the upper reaches of Dachigam forest.
The bodies of the terrorists are being brought from the encounter spot. While there is no official word of their role in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, reports said that the terrorists were involved in major attacks on Indian soil. Defence sources said the encounter began at 11am.
Drones had also been deployed for surveillance.
The operation has been named after the 13,000-ft Mahadev mountain, the highest peak in the Zabarwan range, near the Dachigam National Park and is known for its natural beauty and trekking trails.
The encounter took place hours before defence minister Rajnath Singh opened the discussion on Operation Sindoor, India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, in the Lok Sabha on Monday. He will be followed by external affairs minister S Jaishankar, BJP vice-president Baijayant Panda, and party MPs Tejaswi Surya, Sanjay Jaiswal, Anurag Thakur, and Kamaljeet Sehrawat.
The opposition parties have been demanding a discussion on Operation Sindoor and raising questions over the government's action. Deputy leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, will lead the opposition's discussion. He will be aided by other Congress MPs, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Deepender Hooda, Praneet Shinde, Saptagiri Ulaka, and Bijendra Ola.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hit out at opposition parties while addressing lawmakers from the National Democratic Alliance, saying that by criticising the government on Operation Sindoor they forced a discussion on an issue that was 'his turf'. According to people privy to the details, the PM while speaking about Operation Sindoor, India's military strikes against terror camps in Pakistan and PoK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir), said the Opposition scored a self goal by seeking a discussion on the issue in Parliament. 'The PM said the Opposition must be ruing its decision to force a discussion… he said he was standing there to defend the country and even the gods gave their support to him,' said a party leader, speaking on condition of anonymity. A special discussion on the operation took place in both Houses of Parliament, with the PM speaking on the issue in the Lok Sabha on July 29. In the Rajya Sabha, the Opposition walked out in protest against the PM's absence when the government fielded Union home minister Amit Shah to speak on the issue. 'His unwavering resolve, visionary statesmanship and resolute command have not only steered the nation with purpose but also ignited a renewed spirit of unity and pride in the hearts of all Indians,' it said. Operation Sindoor was executed in response to April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which India said was perpetrated by Pakistan-based terrorist group, The Resistance Front (TRF), a front and proxy of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. The attack left 26 dead. 'If there is a terrorist attack on India, a fitting reply will be given. We will give a befitting response on our terms only… Secondly, India will not tolerate any nuclear blackmail. India will strike precisely and decisively at the terrorist hideouts developing under the cover of nuclear blackmail…Thirdly, we will not differentiate between the government sponsoring terrorism and the masterminds of terrorism,' the resolution noted, highlighting the new normal in dealing with the issue. A reference was also made to the government's focus on indigenisation of defence capabilities and to the diplomatic outreach that was launched after the operation.

Amid din, RS approves extension of President's Rule in Manipur
Amid uproar by Opposition members over the Bihar electoral roll revision, the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday approved the resolution to extend President's Rule in Manipur for six more months. The resolution was passed last week in the Lok Sabha, where proceedings were again washed out Tuesday due to the Opposition's protest. In Rajya Sabha, when the proceedings resumed after earlier adjournments at 2 pm, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai moved the resolution approving President's Rule in Manipur for another six months beyond August 13 even as Opposition members continued to call for a discussion on the SIR. Deputy Chairman Harivansh said it was a 'Constitutional obligation' to pass the resolution. He then asked YSRCP member Subhash Chandra Bose Pilli to speak on the resolution. Opposition MPs however started raising slogans against the SIR. BJD MP from Odisha Muzibulla Khan said, 'When Manipur law and order situation was bad, Article 356 was imposed. Today, the situation of law and order in Odisha is bad…' 'Double engine government in Manipur failed…. Has the situation improved after so many months of President's Rule or not? Minister should inform us…,' he said. Rai said a rift was formed between two communities in Manipur due to a court order. 'A rift was created between two communities in Manipur due to an order of the High Court related to a dispute on reservations. Those who say it is religious violence are wrong…' Rai said. Rai also said Home Minister Amit Shah had undertaken a tour of violence- affected areas in Manipur. 'He (Shah) met high level officials, security forces, civil society members…' Rai said, adding that the northeast has witnessed widespread development under the Narendra Modi-led government. He also said since the President's Rule was imposed in Manipur, only one incident of violence has been reported. The resolution was passed by voice vote. The House was then adjourned for the day.

Speaking to reporters in the Parliament complex, Priyanka said that as the LoP, Rahul was doing his duty to ask questions of the government. 'Who is a true Indian and who is not. With all due respect, I am saying that this doesn't fall under the judiciary's ambit. No justice will decide this. The second is that Rahul Gandhi has always respected the Army, the forces and its officers… The LOP's duty is to ask questions of the government. He is doing his duty. He asks questions of the government, which doesn't like them and doesn't want to answer those questions,' she said. Congress general secretary organisation K C Venugopal said Rahul Gandhi's remarks are the thoughts of every Indian. 'When we ask questions inside the House or outside, they (the government) do not answer. We are termed anti-national for asking questions. But we are the true Indians who demand answers,' he told reporters in the Parliament House complex. The issue of the court's observation was also discussed during a meeting of the INDIA bloc floor leaders on Tuesday, after which the Congress said 'all the leaders of the INDIA bloc parties agreed that the sitting judge has made an extraordinary observation which is unwarranted on the democratic rights of political parties'. Asked about impasse in Parliament over opposition demand for a debate on the electoral roll revision, Vadra put the blame on the government. 'The Parliament is not functioning. They (government) should hold talks, and say they will have a discussion. How difficult is it to run Parliament? Have they become so weak that they can't run the House? … It is their failure that the Parliament is not functioning.'
