Nova Scotia RCMP officer faces another sexual assault charge
The Serious Incident Response Team says it received a referral from the RCMP about the conduct of 40-year-old Const. William McNutt in November 2024.
The independent team says the RCMP confirmed receiving a complaint from a female who alleged she was sexually assaulted by a Mountie in May 2024.
The team said he was charged on Monday, following an investigation.
The RCMP said it previously suspended McNutt without pay in January 2024 over separate allegations of sexual misconduct.
In July 2024, the Serious Incident Response Team said McNutt had been charged with three counts of sexual assault and other charges related to an incident in 2023.
'These additional criminal charges against Const. McNutt are extremely alarming and distressing,' RCMP Assistant Commissioner Dennis Daley said in a statement. 'The RCMP takes all allegations of misconduct seriously, and our employees are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that exceeds the high expectations Canadians rightly have of us.'

Man charged with second-degree murder after 'highly visible and tragic event': RCMP
Police in Kelowna, B.C., say a man arrested after a "highly visible and tragic event" in the city Friday has now been charged with second-degree murder. Kelowna RCMP say James Edward Plover has been in custody since he was arrested after a brief pursuit by officers who responded to reports of a "motor vehicle incident" and an alleged assault with a weapon involving two female victims. Mounties say one of the victims succumbed to her injuries and the second victim is still in hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was known to the deceased victim, according to police. Kelowna RCMP say the murder charge was approved by the BC Prosecution Service today and Plover is due in court on July 10. Insp. Chris Goebel with Kelowna RCMP says the assault has had a "profound impact" on many people in the community, and first responders acted swiftly and professionally during the high-risk situation. Online court records show Plover was charged with uttering threats and assault by choking last year, but the charges were stayed, and he and the victim are involved in active family law litigation and also face foreclosure proceedings launched by two separate banks.

RCMP in Halifax have charged a man who barricaded himself inside a home in Eastern Passage, N.S. The man is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Tuesday. He faces charges including: five counts of assaulting a peace officer two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose two counts of resisting arrest two counts of mischief one count of failure to comply with an undertaking At approximately 3:35 p.m. on Friday, police responded to a report that a man was attempting to break into a home on Cow Bay Road, according to a Saturday news release. Police said the man returned to a home on Orion Drive and refused to leave when they arrived on the scene. Police asked neighbours to shelter in place, and an RCMP negotiator was brought in to assist with the crisis, the release said. The man allegedly lit a fire inside the residence, prompting police to call fire services to the scene. An RCMP emergency response team arrived, and the man left the home but refused to comply with police instructions, the release said. The man allegedly assaulted officers while resisting arrest. Police used a Taser while detaining and arresting him, it added. Police said the man sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital by EHS. The investigation is ongoing.
