K-Way names Marco D'Avanzo head of international business

Fashion Network2 days ago
K-Way has hired an outerwear expert to spearhead the next phase of its international expansion drive. The France-born brand, now owned by Italian group BasicNet, has recently appointed Marco D'Avanzo as chief international business officer.
D'Avanzo comes from Canadian high-end outerwear brand Moose Knuckles, which he joined in 2016 as executive vice-president global sales, based in Milan.
He will still be based in Milan in his new role at K-Way. In the course of his career, D'Avanzo has worked at Woolrich, Guess, Versace and Benetton, and has now joined a thriving, growing sportswear brand.
K-Way is, alongside Kappa, one of the mainstays of BasicNet, which still holds a 60% stake in the brand, while the remaining 40% was acquired at the end of last year by investment firm Permira, via its Permira Growth Opportunities II investment fund.
K-Way has a strong market position in Europe, notably in France and Italy, and is positioned in the premium segment. Last year, K-Way dropped a first collaboration with US label Ulla Johnson, which was showing in New York. Previous collaborations for K-Way include names like Play Comme des Garçons, Maison Kitsuné, Soeur, Diemme, Tiny Cottons and Agnès b. They have all contributed to boosting K-Way's visibility, as it aims to enter new markets.
In 2024, BasicNet reported that the total business volume generated by its brands was in the region of €1.19 billion, three quarters of which was produced in Europe.

Canadian leisure and sportswear design and manufacturing company Mondetta Clothing has named Georgi Gvakharia as its first vice president of retail. Based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the company has four main divisions: Mondetta, Mondetta Originals, MPG, and Modern Ambition. In this newly created role, Gvakharia will oversee retail operations across all Mondetta brands, beginning with Modern Ambition's debut into brick-and-mortar retail. "We're excited to have Georgi join the team and look forward to how his expertise will help us grow the retail side of our business for all of our brands," said Ash Modha, CEO and co-founder of Mondetta Clothing. The opportunity to shape the brand's retail journey, rooted in purpose, performance, and style, is both inspiring and deeply aligned with my values,' added Gvakharia. 'Starting with Modern Ambition, I look forward to working alongside this exceptional team to build something truly meaningful in the luxury menswear space.'

Giorgio Armani and Kith return with second collaboration

Giorgio Armani and Kith have returned with a second collaboration paying homage to the term "estate", in a melange of Italian elegance and modern New York sophistication. The term "estate" was chosen by the Italian-New York duo for its double entendre; meaning "property" in English, and "summer" in Italian, embracing aspirational luxury and owning a summer lifestyle. In an extension of the pair's freshman menswear collaboration, the sophomore collaboration includes womenswear for the first time, with luxury dresses, kimonos, gowns and cover-ups the defining items, alongside graphic tees of Italian and American destinations, as well as a custom sarong and swimwear made with co-branded hardware. Key pieces for men include a double-breasted blazer crafted from a silk twill weave in a new silhouette, in addition to a silk crossover shirt and monogram pant, a bomber jacket, and a Bermuda short. The men's line also boasts swimwear, day shorts and a wide range of tees, as well as premium sunglasses, headwear -- from bucket hats to caps --accompanied by bandanas, bags, belts, card holders and ties. Totes, including canvas and raffia bags with suede and leather, complement suede and leather belts with a co-branded buckle. And finally, for footwear, some loafers and slides, including an espadrille loafer. Celebrating the launch, Giorgio Armani and Kith will host activations in Malibu, The Hamptons, Forte Dei Marmi and Porto Cervo, the four location that inspired the collection. This will include an early release at Kith Malibu on July 4 and at the Giorgio Armani and Kith Hamptons House on July 5 and 6 at the Topping Rose Hotel in Bridgehampton, NY. The global launch will take place at selected Giorgio Armani boutiques and Kith shops worldwide, from July 10, as well as online.
