Malaysia maritime uses helicopter to search for missing fisherman
Terengganu Maritime Director Captain Hamiludin Che Awang said the second day of search and rescue operations (Op Carilamat) for victim Mohd Noor Abdullah, 54, began around 7am today involving 16 rescue personnel using a Penggalang 45 boat and air support.
He stated the search covered an area of 208.15 nautical miles in the waters off Pulau Bidong, Kuala Nerus.
'MMEA has established a forward base at Jeti Tok Jembal to coordinate search operations and receive direct information from the local community.
'The search area was expanded today around Pulau Bidong, which was frequently Mohd Noor's preferred fishing location,' he said in today's statement.
Mohd Noor was reported missing by family members after going fishing around 2pm last Tuesday.

Fifth body recovered, five still missing from Belawai boat tragedy
MUKAH: The death toll from Saturday's (July 5) boat tragedy off the coast of Pantai Belawai rose to five on Sunday after another victim was found, as efforts continue to locate five others still missing. A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the body of a boy, whose age has yet to be determined, was recovered at 6pm, about 300m from the scene. "As of now, five victims have been confirmed dead, five are still missing and seven have been rescued. The five missing victims are all adult males," the spokesman said in a statement. In the incident that occurred around 2pm Saturday, a fibreglass boat carrying 17 Indonesian nationals from Kampung Belawai fishermen's jetty capsized en route to the Zion Pelita Coconut Plantation jetty. The seven survivors include four adult men, two adult women and a boy. Meanwhile, the four deceased victims found earlier comprised two adult women, a boy and a girl. The search and rescue operation continues with surface-level searches within a 3km radius of the incident location, assisted by the police, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, the Sarawak Coast Guard, Rela and local villagers. MMEA seizes tanker carrying diesel illegally
SHAH ALAM: A vessel with seven Indonesian crew has been seized for possessing, storing and transporting over 60,000 litres of diesel without a special licence. Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Selangor director Maritime Kapt Abdul Muhaimin Muhammad Salleh said the vessel was detained on Thursday afternoon during a patrol under Ops Ehsan, Ops Murni and Ops Tiris 3.0, about one nautical mile west of Tanjung Harapan, Port Klang. He said the captain and six crew members held valid identification documents. 'A search found an estimated 62,000 litres of diesel on board. The captain failed to produce any documentation authorising possession of the controlled item. 'A detention order was issued for the vessel with the captain and second engineer taken to the marine police jetty in Pulau Indah,' he said yesterday, Bernama reported. The case is being probed under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for failure to produce a valid permit from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry to possess and transport controlled goods.

Tugboat detained off Bintulu for alleged Merchant Shipping Ordinance breach
The detained tugboat. – MMEA photo BINTULU (July 4): The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Bintulu Maritime Zone has detained a tugboat suspected of violating the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 during a routine patrol on Wednesday. Bintulu Maritime Zone director, Maritime Captain Muhammad Suffian Eldine Abdullah, said the tugboat was stopped around 2pm, approximately 0.38 nautical miles southwest of Batu Kura-Kura off of here. The enforcement was part of Ops Tiris 3.0 and Ops Permai. Initial checks found eight Indonesian crew members on board, aged between 23 and 48, including the captain. 'The vessel is suspected of violating Section 22(2A) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 for failing to notify the Registrar of Ships in writing about a change of captain, as required under the ship's registration certificate,' Muhammad Suffian said in a statement. The offence carries a RM2,500 fine. The tugboat and crew were escorted to the Bintulu Maritime Zone Vessel Detention Centre for further investigation. Muhammad Suffian urged maritime operators to comply with relevant laws and safety protocols.
