Murcia, the region around Benidorm, has been lashed by wild weather just two weeks after thunderstorms hit the country and swept two away. Towns southwest of the city were the hardest hit as several homes were evacuated and some 90litres of rain fell per square metre in the worst hit areas. Footage shows flooding in the streets of the idyllic towns with a torrent of water running down streets. Murky brown water rushed along the streets of Moratalla while thick sheets of golf-sized hail balls blanketed Caravaca de la Cruz and smashed the windscreens of parked cars. Basements and drains were flooded as the water moved through streets, promising locals a large cleanup operation. Cops had to move parked vehicles which were in the path of rushing water as they risked being moved into the street or swept away and damaging what they hit. The massive amount of hail froze in the streets making large piles of ice that needed to be smashed up by locals. Wind gusted along the coast with La Manga del Mar Menor reaching speeds of 34mph. Further rain is forecast for the the Altiplano, Northwest, and Vega del Segura regions, and could see 30litres per square metre in an hour. Hail measuring more than two centimetres across could fall, which combined with the rain, has lead officials to plan for more flooding. Temperatures plunged 10C below normal just days after the same areas had seen hot temperatures. Weather warnings were in place from 6am until midnight on Thursday but were wound down in Murcia on Friday morning. The country has plunged into chaos after two people were burnt alive and more than 70 houses were destroyed. Will there be a heatwave this weekend? Latest UK weather forecast

After an erratic summer of heatwaves and torrential downpours, warm weather is forecast to return to the UK. The Met Office said parts of England are set to enjoy highs of up to 28C on Friday, with most of the country set for temperatures in the low to mid-20s. 'The best of the sunshine, the sunniest skies, will be across more central, southern, south-eastern England,' said meteorologist Alex Burkill. 'It was pretty wet here across parts of East Anglia, London and the South East yesterday. It's [now] a much drier, brighter picture. 'The sunniest skies, though, will be across some more central parts. And it's here that we are going to get the highest temperatures, [up to] 26 and 27. Maybe 28 Celsius. 'Even elsewhere, yes it's a few degrees lower than this, but if you do catch any of those bright sunny spells, temperatures should get into the low, possibly mid-20s for quite a few places. 'So feeling pretty warm, as you would expect at this time of year.' There have been three heatwaves already this summer, with temperatures climbing to almost 36C in Kent at the start of the month. In April, the UK also enjoyed a record amount of sunshine. But the jet stream that has brought on this weather has since dipped southwards, pushing areas of low pressure towards British shores, and sudden downpours have followed. Hosepipe bans, however, have remained in place after the driest spring in over a century. Moving into the weekend, an area of high pressure is expected to extend from the Azores archipelago in the mid-Atlantic and could influence the weather in the UK. It could mean a more dry weather and sunshine, especially in the south and west of the UK. There should also be fewer showers. But a heatwave is not expected to hit the UK this weekend. Temperatures will climb but top out in the mid-20s. For Saturday's forecast, the Met Office wrote: 'Cloud and outbreaks still moving slowly and erratically southeastwards across England, turning heavy across southeast England later. 'Elsewhere sunny spells and a scattering of showers. Near average temperatures.' They added: 'Sunny spells and showers on Sunday. Mostly dry Monday, with sunny spells. Breezy with showery rain in the northwest on Tuesday, dry elsewhere. Temperatures around average, warm in the south.'

Freak storms lash Spanish tourist resorts with roads becoming raging rivers and HAIL turning streets white as Brits hide from lightning in Benidorm

A series of freak storms have struck popular Spanish tourist hotspots turning roads into powerful rivers while hail has lashed down and turned streets white. Dramatic footage shows dirty water gushing down streets and into houses in Murcia, southeastern Spain, while enormous grey clouds tower over the province. The Murcia region has been badly hit and in the city of Caravaca de la Cruz, a major pilgrimage site, golf-sized hail balls smashed down on cars. Up to 20 residents from the city were evacuated and spent the night in a municipal sports pavilion, according to local reports. The hail turned into enormous mounds of ice before quickly melting with rapids forming. Mucky fast-flowing water streamed through the region, filling some homes and businesses, leaving the roads barren. Cafes and restaurants were left empty with people taking shelter. Calasparra and Casas Navarro are also among the most affected areas. As was the town of Moratalla, where car windows were smashed. Meanwhile, British tourists in Benidorm have been forced to take shelter as enormous thunder storms lash down on the Alicante region. Idyllic beaches and bars lay vacant as aggresive thunder and lightning hit the province. Video clips circulating on social media show popular holiday spots looking abandonded as tourists remain indoors in a bid look to escape the extreme conditions. Alicante was placed on high alert on Thursday night by state weather agency Aemet. While Murcia is remaining braced for further torrential downpours and thunderstorms until Friday afternoon. The dramatic downpours following a prolonged heatwave in the region, while temperatures have now plummeted to 10C below normal. Parts of Valencia, Barcelona, Girona and Tarragona have also been placed under an amber weather warning for rain and storms this week. The flooding comes less than two weeks after ferocious storms lashed Spain, with 'two swept away' by flash floods. Videos shared on social media showed waterspouts forming along the coast by Cubelles, Catalonia earlier this month. Others appeared near Valencia and Tarragona. Storms ultimately forced a flight from Barcelona to the U.S. to turn around moments after takeoff, as a violent hailstorm damaged the nose of the plane. But as Catalonia grappled with the 'DANA' cold drop, Spain's arid south saw temperatures push towards 40C, with a forest fire breaking out near a popular tourist hotspot. The forest fire broke out in Mijas, sweeping through Mijas Golf, an area popular with tourists, according to the Spanish Eye. The south of Spain has been lashed by fires since the first major heatwaves in June. More than 21,000 hectares of land have burned so far this year. The national weather agency, AEMET, said last month that it was the country's hottest June on record.
