While there were only two categories last year devoid of nominees from diverse backgrounds (Guest Actor Comedy Series and Lead Actor in Limited Series, Anthology or Movie), this year there were three (Lead Actress in a Drama Series, Guest Actress in a Drama Series and Lead Actor in a Comedy Series).

The most diverse acting categories were Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series with Jessica Williams (Apple TV+'s Shrinking), Sheryl Lee Ralph (ABC's Abbott Elementary), Janelle James (Abbott Elementary), and Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) who made Emmy history last year as the first Latina to win the category. This is Colón-Zayas' second nomination.
Another Emmy acting slot representing the most thespians of color was Lead Actress in a Comedy Series with Uzo Aduba (her sixth Emmy nom, for Netflix's The Residence, in a three-time Emmy-winning career), Ayo Edebiri with The Bear (who scored two Emmy noms this year in this category and comedy directing her Bear episode 'Napkins'), and Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary.

Had Diego Luna received a Best Actor in a Drama Series nom for Andor, it would have repped the first time two Latino actors shared the slot, the sole nominee this year in the category being Pedro Pascal for HBO's The Last of Us, his fourth career nom. Pascal is the second Latino nominee in the slot to be nominated more than once after NYPD Blue's Jimmy Smits' five-Emmy-nom streak from 1995 to 1999.
Edebiri is the first Black woman to be nominated for acting and directing categories in a single year. She is also the youngest Black woman, at 29, to reach three Emmy acting noms in her career. She won best supporting actress comedy series in 2023 for her turn as Sydney Adamu on The Bear. She was nominated for a DGA Comedy Series directing award earlier this year for 'Napkins.'
Abbott Elementary creator, EP and star Brunson counts 11 Primetime Emmy noms now in her career, having already won two for Outstanding Comedy Series Writing in 2022 and Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2023. She also nominated in the comedy series writing category for a third time this year, the first time a Black woman has achieved that benchmark with a single series. Brunson is tied with Stefani Robinson (Atlanta and What We Do in the Shadows) with the most writing Emmy noms by a Black woman. Brunson is also the first Black Woman to win for comedy writing.
With his lead actor drama series nom for Hulu's Paradise, Sterling K. Brown ties with Don Cheadle and Andre Braugher with an overall 11 Emmy career noms across various categories. This is Brown's fifth Lead Actor in a a Drama Series nomination; he is a three-time Emmy winner, in 2016 for Limited Series Supporting Actor for FX's American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson, 2017 for Lead Actor Drama in This Is Us, and Outstanding Narrator in 2021 for Lincoln: Divided We Stand.
Saturday Night Live's Bowen Yang is the only AAPI standout this year among noms, the sketch player landing a supporting comedy actor nom. Yang is now the most nominated Asian American actor in the Emmy books with four. Kristen Kish receives her second Emmy nom in Outstanding Host for Reality or Reality Competition for Top Chef. The TV Academy overlooked key performances from Asian actors and actresses in The White Lotus, The Studio and Squid Game.

First-time nominees include Zach Cherry and Travel Tillman both in Supporting Actor for Apple TV+'s Severance, Anthony Mackie for playing himself in the streamer's The Studio in the Best Actor Comedy slot, also Zoë Kravitz for Guest Comedy Actress on The Studio, Javier Bardem as the twisted father in Netflix's Monsters in Supporting Actor Limited Anthology, and Ashley Walters in Limited Series Anthology for Netflix's Adolescence. There's also Ruth Negga, who is already a 2017 Best Actress Oscar nominee for Loving, who lands her first Emmy nom for Apple TV+'s Presumed Innocent in the Limited Anthology Series Supporting Actress category.
Rashida Jones gets her second career Emmy nom and first above-the-line acting nom in the Lead Actress Limited Series Anthology category for Black Mirror. She was previously recognized in the 2015 documentary filmmaking category for her non-fiction feature Hot Girls Wanted.

This beloved retro gaming computer is making a comeback—and it'll cost you $299
Tech nostalgia runs strong among Gen Z. The retro movement has made long-outdated devices desirable once more. When it comes to personal computer nostalgia, you'd be hard-pressed to find a PC more fondly remembered than the Commodore 64. Now, the machine that served as the starter computer for many old-school gamers is making a comeback of sorts. Commodore Corp., which is no longer run by the team behind the original device, has begun taking preorders for the Commodore 64 Ultimate, a $299 device that its makers claim is compatible with over 10,000 retro games, cartridges, and peripherals. The new C64s are expected to begin shipping as early as October, though that date could slip. Also, the listed price doesn't account for tariffs. A 'tariff tax' ($15 to $25 in the U.S.) is added at checkout—and the builders warn that amount could change if tariffs do. While there have been Commodore 64 emulators in the past, this marks the first official product from the company in more than 30 years. There are three models to choose from, all with the same internal components. If you were expecting a vastly outdated machine, however, you're in for a surprise. The Commodore 64 Ultimate will include 128 megabytes of RAM and 16 megabytes of flash memory. It connects to modern monitors via HDMI in high-definition 1080p resolution and features three USB-A ports and one USB-C port. Ownership of the Commodore brand adds some complexity. Earlier this year, Christian 'Peri Fractic' Simpson—a YouTuber focused on retro tech—announced he was in the process of acquiring the company and claimed to be the 'acting CEO of Commodore.' In a YouTube video posted at the end of June, he said he purchased the company for 'a low seven-figure sum' and has recruited several former Commodore employees to help relaunch the brand. In the video, Simpson states he signed 'a share purchase agreement' with the previous owners of Commodore Corp., but is still seeking angel investors to help close the total sales amount. That uncertainty may give some potential buyers pause, and understandably so. The official site addresses the concern, noting: 'We have a contract with the previous IP owner that ensures that regardless of the final acquisition outcome, these machines can be manufactured as promised.' The product will come with a one-year limited warranty, and Commodore says most parts are already in production, including the updated motherboard, the case, and the keycaps that recreate the blocky keys that early users remember. The original Commodore 64 debuted in 1982. It was one of the world's best-selling computers at the time, with graphics and sound that pushed the limits of 8-bit technology. With games like M.U.L.E., Wizard, and The Last Ninja, it quickly became a gamer favorite. In addition to the games on the USB drive, backers will also receive a 'new sequel' to the C64 original, called Jupiter Lander: Ascension. A'ja Wilson's pro career began with a winning bet. In 2018, the W.N.B.A.'s Las Vegas Aces franchise was new to town. The team went all in on its No. 1 overall pick and drafted Ms. Wilson, the University of South Carolina center and 2017-18 college player of the year, for its debut season in the city. They hit the jackpot. Ms. Wilson helped bring Vegas its first (and second) pro sports championships, as well as a fan base that has flocked to games as she's racked up awards: Rookie of the Year, three-time league M.V.P., perennial All-Star, Olympic gold medalist. And she recently joined the exclusive club of W.N.B.A players to get their own signature sneaker: the A'One by Nike. Initially, though, the lights of the city said to be the brightest spot on earth could have overwhelmed the rising talent from Columbia, S.C., who described herself in an interview as 'inward' and a 'homebody.' She'd visited as a kid with her parents — drawn by her father's love of rodeo — but moving to Vegas was different. 'I never would have imagined living there,' Ms. Wilson said. Since her arrival, however, the 6-foot-4-inch self-described 'Southern girl' has discovered a dimension that aligns with her down-to-earth nature. Understanding that the city has two sides is 'the biggest thing that helped me feel at home,' she said, noting that the chaotic Strip and the calmer desert areas parallel Columbia's vibrant downtown and quieter countryside. Thanks to this familiar dichotomy, along with a community she describes as 'full of love,' Vegas has won a place in her heart. 'I've fallen in love with the city,' she said.
