'That was the moment we became national champions,' said Rice, a 1990 Middlebury graduate who switched from lacrosse to ultimate as a freshman, and has coached the sport for more than a decade.

'I think our ultimate team has had a bit of a chip on their shoulders as one of the most successful sports teams at the school, but they don't always get recognition.
'Recently, the support has been really touching. All of our rivals posted support before the tournament and congratulations after, and honestly, without a powerhouse like Lexington in our backyard, I don't think we could've reached the heights that we did'

Arlington's ultimate program has grown slowly over the past decade, but took off the past few years with talented multi-sport athletes from the Class of 2025 leading the charge. The Pumahs are 55-4 over the last two years, with consecutive state titles, and went 26-1 this season with the sole loss coming in the finals of the

Rice, 57, credits continuity, along with the talent, of a group that has played together since middle school.
'We put systems in when these kids were freshmen and they've evolved over time, but these guys have been doing them so long, and they've figured out small variations on the fly,' said Rice. 'We tell them before a big tournament to not do anything new. Even if the other team is expecting it, we can execute, and they can't keep up.'
The Pumahs have speedsters like Molloy, Haris Kennedy, and Rand Marcovski, who are all soccer stars in the fall, along with football standout Peter Harrison. Hedlund, who is headed to Purdue, can jump with anyone, as demonstrated by his school-record hurdles performance during indoor track season.

UMass-bound senior Theo Strauss leads the defense and Malcolm Cooper plays a safety role at the back end, using his 6-4 frame to deny long passes. The son of two elite ultimate players, Cooper is also a pro disc golfer with an insane backhand that can fly more than 100 yards on kickoffs. Between Cooper, junior Zach Phan, and Levine, Arlington's handlers (the point guards of an offense) were unmatched on the national stage.
'Last year, Cam carried us,' Rice said, noting

Some of Arlington's stars are now preparing for the U20 National Tournament in Colorado this August, joining standouts from nine other Massachusetts high schools — last year's squad also featured Lexington's Eli Chang, Northampton's Roan Dunkerley, Belchertown's Taylor Hanson, and Concord's Calan Kirkpatrick — to represent the region.
With the success of the Pumahs on the national stage, the sport should continue to grow in the Bay State.

Notre Dame football announces 2026 home date with AAC foe, the Rice Owls
Schedule update 📆We will host Rice in 2026 ☘️🆚 Rice📍 South Bend, Indiana📅 9/12/2026#GoIrish☘️ While the 2025 college football seasons is approaching, Notre Dame football has been busy getting its 2026 schedule in order, and made an announcement on Thursday morning that they'll be hosting the Rice Owls at home on Sep. 12th. A start time has yet to be announced, but the Irish now know one of their foes for next year. There are multiple other games that have been released which include against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field, at North Carolina, at USC, at Florida State and hosting Miami. Many often have criticized Notre Dame for its schedule, but they're making strides to show that they aren't afraid to play anyone. After the 2024 run to the College Football Playoff, no one is questioning if the Irish have a great program, but there are still plenty out there that still believe that Notre Dame is overrated. Another good year in 2025 will go a long ways to squashing those ideas. In 2024, Rice went 2-6 before firing head coach Mike Bloomgren, and finished the season with a 4-8 record. They hired Scott Abell last November, as this will be his first season as a head coach at this level. Notre Dame leads the all-time series record at 5-0, with the last game against the two teams was a 48-17 Irish victory in South Bend in 2014 according to

Wells, Grisham return but Yankees lose again, drop into first-place tie with Blue Jays
TORONTO (AP) — Yankees catcher Austin Wells returned to action Wednesday following a three-game absence, coming on as a pinch runner in the eight inning of New York's 11-9 loss at Toronto. The Yankees are 13-18 since May 28, losing six of the past 10 series. 'We've got to play better,' slugger Aaron Judge said. 'That's what it comes down to. If we play better, we'll put ourselves in a better position.' Outfielder Trent Grisham also returned, coming in to pinch hit for DJ LeMahieu earlier in the eighth and playing center field. Grisham left Monday's game after a cleat caught the turf . Wells had been sidelined since Saturday as Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the catcher was recovering from an invasive test for a circulatory issue in his left index finger . He ran for Giancarlo Stanton after the DH walked. Ben Rice started at catcher against Toronto on Wednesday night after making his second and third starts behind the plate this season against the Athletics last weekend. Rice couldn't come up with a wild pitch from Devin Williams in the bottom of the eighth that allowed George Springer to score the tiebreaking run. 'That on me there,' Rice said. 'I've got to find a way to keep it in front.' Williams said Rice wasn't to blame. 'I've got to make a better pitch there,' Williams said. 'It wasn't the easiest one to block for Ben.' Right-hander Luis Gil missed a scheduled throwing session Tuesday because his wife was giving birth, Boone said before the game. The 2024 AL Rookie of the Year instead will throw on Thursday. Gil has not pitched for the Yankees this season because of a high-grade lat strain in his pitching shoulder. The Yankees recalled right-hander Clayton Beeter from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday and righty Geoff Hartlieb was designated for assignment. Beeter was 0-0 with a 1.02 ERA in 16 games at Triple-A, where he struck out 29 batters in 17 2/3 innings. Beeter had two saves in three chances. 'He's been on our board now for a couple of years kind of pushing the envelope to be part of the mix,' Boone said. 'He's really talented. Hopefully he can come up here and carve out a spot for himself in the bullpen.' Hartlieb made his only Yankees appearance in Tuesday's 12-5 loss , allowing three runs in one inning. ___ AP MLB:
