Oman: Tourist sites in South Al Batinah witness surge in visitors
Muscat: A number of tourist sites in the wilayats of South Al Batinah Governorate have witnessed increased activity over the past two days.
Ain Al Kasfa in the Wilayat of Rustaq has seen a large influx of visitors drawn by its natural hot springs. The spring remains a popular tourist destination, especially following recent developments. Restaurants and cafes near the spring have also experienced a rise in footfall.
Tourism has also been active in Nakhal, covering various tourist, archaeological, and historical sites such as Nakhal Fort and Ain Al Thawara. The Jabal Al Luban Trail has recorded a significant increase in visitors due to its unique terrain and rich ecological diversity. Located along the road to Ain Al Thawara, one of the area's key tourist attractions, the trail introduces visitors to the local flora and provides an opportunity for hiking.
In the Wilayat of Wadi Al Ma'awil, the Hajarat Al Sheikh Walkway in the town of Afi has attracted a vibrant flow of tourists from within and outside the region. The project promotes tourism by connecting three significant heritage sites: Hajarat Al Sheikh Neighborhood, Al Safalah Castle, and Bait Al Ghasham Museum. The walkway allows visitors to explore these cultural landmarks, rich in Omani history, and passes by Falaj Al Washah amid green oases and palm groves, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and traditional heritage.

Iran-Israel ceasefire: Some UAE residents resume summer travel plans as airfare dips
A slight decrease in airfares following the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel has brought welcome relief to UAE residents, many of whom had postponed their summer travel plans due to safety concerns and soaring ticket prices. With stability returning to the region, families are now booking last-minute trips to their home countries, while others are opting for short staycations within the UAE. 'People who didn't book earlier are now going ahead because airfares have come down slightly after the ceasefire,' said Subair Thekepurathvalappil, senior manager at Wisefox Tourism. 'Many who didn't cancel are sticking with their plans, while those who did are rebooking. We have even seen some shift to domestic tourism — there's no longer the same stress around travel." The cancellations were due to weeks of uncertainty sparked by the conflict between Iran and Israel, which escalated dramatically after the US launched missile attacks on the Islamic Republic's nuclear facilities. The conflict led to temporary airspace closures, flight diversions, and widespread concern among travelers. Many residents, especially those with children or elderly parents, decided to postpone their travel plans, fearing the situation could worsen or drag on for weeks. Airlines resume operations However, the announcement of a ceasefire and the rapid resumption of commercial flights have helped restore confidence. Major airlines resumed operations within hours of the ceasefire, and travel demand has since started to normalise. Dubai Airports announced on June 26 that the next two weeks will be exceptionally busy. Dubai International Airport (DXB) is expected to handle over 265,000 passengers daily, with more than 3.4 million travellers passing through between June 27 and July 9. July 5 is projected to be the peak travel day. Emirates Airline also issued a summer travel advisory, estimating over 30,000 outbound passengers per day between June 26 and June 30. Safety in travel For many, the decision to travel again has hinged on timing and caution. Rahul Iyer, a Dubai-based finance professional, had initially planned a family trip to Chennai on June 30. "Once the news of the missile strikes broke out, I held off booking,' he said. "With two young children, I wasn't willing to take any risks,' he said. 'But after the ceasefire was announced and things went back to normal, I wanted to travel. Airfare prices had dipped slightly, so I rebooked for July 3. It just felt right to wait it out.' Others chose to remain in the UAE altogether, prioritising safety over travel. 'When I saw how quickly the situation was escalating, with more countries possibly getting involved, I cancelled our trip to Pakistan,' said Fatima Salim, a resident of BM Tower in Al Nahda, Sharjah. 'We have always seen how the UAE looks after its residents during emergencies, so we felt safer staying here. Maybe we'll do a staycation in Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah instead," she added. That sense of security and confidence in the UAE's crisis response is something many residents now value more than ever. 'Everything was so uncertain a few days ago. Flights were getting delayed or rerouted, and we didn't want to get stuck abroad,' said Iyer.

Oman: CAA records $272mln in 2024 revenue, highlights global safety rankings
Muscat – The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced on Wednesday that it recorded revenues amounting to RO105 million in 2024, underscoring its operational efficiency and financial sustainability. The announcement was made during the Authority's annual media briefing held in Muscat under the patronage of H.E. Dr Abdullah Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information. The event was attended by senior officials, strategic partners, and key stakeholders. Reviewing its performance over the past year, the CAA reported a 95.95 per cent compliance rate with aviation safety standards, placing Oman fifth globally in the effective implementation of aviation safety oversight. Major achievements included the activation of the southern runway at Muscat International Airport, the approval of the General Civil Aviation Policy, and the signing of nine international air transport agreements. The Authority also issued new regulations to enhance passenger rights protection and introduced a revised licensing framework for drone registration and air traffic management. As part of its digital transformation efforts, the CAA revamped 113 electronic services, implemented a document management system, obtained information security certification, and upgraded Oman's numerical weather prediction systems and wadi flood forecasting models. In terms of operational expansion, the CAA granted permits to 19 foreign airlines. Cybersecurity and aviation security policies were ratified, while operational manuals were activated for both Duqm and Marmul airports. Additionally, a new air navigation radar was installed in Jalan Bani Bu Ali to strengthen national airspace surveillance. Aviation performance indicators reflected growth, with a 2 per cent increase in passenger traffic compared to 2023, and over 120,000 flights recorded. Air cargo volumes surpassed 150,000 tonnes, while more than 540,300 aircraft transited Omani airspace – a 14 per cent rise year-on-year. The national meteorological monitoring network grew to include 80 stations across the country. Meanwhile, 520 consumer complaints were addressed and resolved efficiently. Internationally, Oman attained a 94.4 per cent compliance score in aviation security under the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Continuous Monitoring Approach. The sultanate ranked fourth among G20 nations and third in the Middle East. Oman also achieved full compliance with aviation facilitation standards under Annex 9 of the Chicago Convention. Looking to the future, the Authority confirmed that detailed design work is nearing completion for Musandam Airport, with accelerated progress anticipated in early 2025. The tender for construction of the passenger terminal at Sohar Airport is expected to be issued before the end of the year. Meanwhile, a new aircraft hangar at Muscat International Airport is set to be inaugurated later this year, positioning Oman as a regional centre for aircraft maintenance. The event also marked the launch of an upgraded digital platform for Oman Meteorology, offering real-time weather updates. A commemorative postage stamp was unveiled to celebrate 50 years of Oman's membership in the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). H.E. Eng. Naif Ali al Abri, Chairman of the CAA, stated that the year's achievements reflect Oman's unwavering commitment to aviation safety and its alignment with international best practices. 'These results are a testament to our clear strategic vision and the strong collaboration between all partners. The civil aviation sector is a pillar of national development and plays a vital role in enhancing Oman's global connectivity,' he said.
