Hyderabad:
Telangana Congress
president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Sunday said that candidates to contest the panchayat, MPTC, and ZPTC elections would be selected based on survey reports and feedback from key party leaders regarding their winning prospects.
"Priority will be given to those who work hard at the grassroots level. The selection of candidates will be a mix of young and senior leaders. It is the responsibility of the senior leaders to guide the younger members. Women will get their quota of seats in the local body polls," he said at the party workers' meeting held in Nizamabad.
He dismissed the opposition's allegations over AICC Telangana in charge Meenakshi Natarajan's participation in the padayatra led by him.
"AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, in the presence of chief minister A Revanth Reddy, asked the TPCC leadership to undertake a padayatra to reach out to the people at the grassroots level and understand their problems. Meenakshi Natarajan is participating as the chief guest in the padayatra, as in charge of Telangana affairs," he said.

Mahesh Goud criticised former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for taking loans at higher interest rates, leaving behind a debt of nearly Rs 8 lakh crore on the state exchequer. "Former ministers KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao are trying to mislead the people on the Banakacherla project. BRS MLC K Kavitha should clarify her stance on which political party she belongs to. Kavitha never spoke about BC welfare when the BRS govt was in power, and now she has developed a sudden affection towards the BCs," Mahesh Goud alleged.

Judicial Commission on Kaleshwaram project holds KCR accountable for 'irregularities"

Hyderabad: The judicial commission appointed by the Telangana government on the Kaleshwaram project held former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao accountable "directly and vicariously" for the irregularities with regard to construction and other aspects. The state cabinet on Monday discussed and accepted the commission's report in its meeting held at the Secretariat, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy told reporters. Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, flanked by CM Reddy and other ministers, said the commission, in its report, also found fault with T Harish Rao, a nephew of KCR who was irrigation minister during the BRS regime, and also the then finance minister Eatala Rajender (now a BJP MP). The CM said the government would soon call for a meeting of the Assembly and decide its future course of action on the report after a thorough debate on the matter. The commission, headed by former Supreme Court judge P C Ghose, submitted its report to the government on July 31. Then CM KCR (K Chandrasekhar Rao) was held "directly and also vicariously accountable for the irregularities and the illegalities in planning, construction, completion, operation and maintenance of the three barrages", Uttam Kumar Reddy said, quoting the report. The commission also pointed out that the project lacked cabinet approval and works had started even without the final Detailed Project Report (DPR). The then chief minister is pre-determined and bent upon to construct the barrage at Medigadda at his "free choice" and the authorities associated with the decision making facilitated them, a summary of the report shared with the media said. The commission concluded that the entire project was characterised by "rampant and brazen procedural and financial irregularities", it said. "The report underscored that the Kaleshwaram project, intended as a "lifeline" of Telangana, became a colossal waste of public money due to a profound failure of governance, planning, technical oversight and financial discipline, driven by individual decisions and undue influence of political leadership", it said. The damage to the barrages of the Kaleshwaram project was a key issue during the 2023 assembly elections in the state. Recalling that he had visited the Medigadda barrage of the Kaleshwaram project, along with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, before the assembly polls in 2023, CM Reddy said Congress, in its election manifesto, had promised to conduct a judicial inquiry on the alleged irregularities in the project if the party came to power. Countering the allegations against the previous BRS government and KCR, BRS leader S Niranjan Reddy demanded that the commission's report be made public instead of releasing its summary. He stressed that the commission's report can be challenged legally. The government is trying to divert public attention in the name of the report ahead of the local body polls, he added.

Ghose commission violated CoI Act, deprived KCR and others of presenting arguments: former MP Vinod Kumar

Senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and former MP G. Vinod Kumar has taken strong exception to the PC Ghose Commission for blaming former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for the irregularities and illegalities in the execution of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), stating that KCR and his Cabinet members had been deprived of the opportunity to present his arguments before the Commission. Citing Section 8C of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, which gives the right of cross-examination and representation by a legal practitioner, Mr. Rao said that the former Chief Minister KCR or the then Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao had not been allowed to present their arguments to place the facts before the Commission. With regard to the Commission's observations that Medigadda was constructed against the advice of the Expert Committee constituted in January 2015, Mr. Vinod Kumar said that the advice was given in the initial report. 'But to compensate for that, it was decided to construct Annaram and Sundilla upstream barrages across the Godavari River as part of the project, as they would supplement the water needs of the KLIP,' he claimed.
