Sebastian Kehl provides update on Youssoufa Moukoko's Borussia Dortmund departure
Youssoufa Moukoko is on the verge of leaving Borussia Dortmund for Copenhagen. Once heralded as one of Germany's greatest prospects, the 20-year-old is set to leave the Westfalenstadion on a permanent basis for a reported €5m.
Speaking after Borussia Dortmund's 1-0 win against Ulsan HD at the FIFA Club World Cup, sporting director Sebastian Kehl provided an update on the transfer.

'I'm in talks with Youssoufa, that's true,' said Kehl. 'There are still a few things needing to be clarified. Once they're resolved, we'll announce something but we're not there yet.'
Moukoko (20) spent last season on loan at Ligue 1 side OGC Nice but struggled with just two goals and two assists across 11 league games, totalling 199 minutes. With just one year remaining on his contract at Dortmund, the Germany international has failed to live up to expectations and with a failed loan spell in France, has seen his market value half from €20m to €10m, per Transfermarkt.

Pep Guardiola issues heartfelt thank you to Manchester City for crucial Club World Cup decision
Manchester City's key decision makers have received praise from Pep Guardiola over their choice of base at this summer's FIFA Club World Cup. The Premier League giants are currently competing in the United States for the title of World Champions after their UEFA Champions League success of 2023 earned them a place in the newly-expanded global club tournament. Advertisement The initial group stage of the competition saw Manchester City visit three different stadiums throughout the USA, taking on Wydad AC in Philadelphia, Al Ain in Atlanta, before rounding off that particular phase of the tournament in Orlando against Juventus. City have opted for the strategy of not staying overnight at their destinations however, instead returning immediately to their training base in Boca Raton, Florida with familiarity and comfort in mind for the players and staff. Speaking to broadcasters from Florida this week, manager Pep Guardiola was keen to credit Manchester City for the role they played when it came to decision making over where to stay in the United States for the tournament, and how that has affected team bonding. 'I say thank you to Man City for the place they chose to be together [at the FIFA Club World Cup]; it's in front of the sea, the vibe is really good, we trained really good, and after we play golf, go to the beach, yoga – whatever they want,' Guardiola said. Advertisement 'I think they [the players] are together a lot, they reconnect, and we talked about exactly what we need to not repeat the season we had last season,' he added, before reflecting on the downfalls of last season despite confidence around the club's preparation last August. 'I have the feeling last season the squad was really good, but we had a thousand million injuries. Look at today [vs Juventus], Rodri, on the pitch! When you lose the best player in the world, always you miss him. 'But today I had the feeling every player had the feeling, 'I have to play good otherwise my mate is going to play my position!' When that happens, it's really, really good!' Pep Guardiola will be hoping that the good vibe within the Manchester City camp and fine form built on the pitch at the tournament so far can be transferred into the knockout rounds of the competition. City return to the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida in the early hours of Tuesday morning for viewers in the United Kingdom to take on Al Ain, with either Inter or Fluminense awaiting in the quarter-finals.

Man shatters world record with 465 half-marathons run in a single year
A man who took up jogging while recovering from a hernia has shattered a world record by running 465 half-marathons in just one year. Edward Molineaux, a 34-year-old personal trainer, logged an astonishing 6,000 miles between April 6, 2023, and April 7, 2024. His achievement not only broke his own previous record of 282 half-marathons in 12 months, between 2022 and 2023, but also earned him a world title, according to news agency SWNS. "I used to love sports like boxing, but when I suffered a hernia it took me about two years after my operation to get my body back," Molineaux said. "All I could do was run. I couldn't turn to anything explosive anymore." What began as a way to recover turned into a regular habit. Molineaux, who is British, now inspires others through his dedication, according to reports. "All I could do was run." "I love giving inspiration to other people, and that warrior feeling," he said. "Even being around people doing well - I like seeing people getting better and going higher." The endurance athlete went on to win a 2,000-mile virtual race across Africa. Molineaux said he structures his week around 13 half-marathon runs, often stacking multiple races in a single day, per SWNS. "To complete the half-marathons, I split my week into 13 runs, with three on Monday and Wednesday, two on Tuesday and Thursday, and then just one half-marathon for the remaining three days," he said. Even through blisters, trench foot and fatigue, he said he is undeterred. "Some days I did not feel like doing it, but you need to do it," he said. "It's one of the hardest parts for me, but I pushed myself." His nutrition strategy is as disciplined as his training. "I don't really eat before I run - I don't like feeling full while I'm getting the miles in," he said. "I stick to a lot of fruit really, mainly bananas. For a half-marathon, I run on an empty stomach, maybe just a banana." At night, he said he fuels up on meat and fish. "It all comes from belief." "You won't get a stitch, and it won't stay in the stomach, and you can go at a faster pace," he added. Molineaux's passion for self-discipline and mental resilience is central to his philosophy. "What I would do is do one half-marathon in about two hours, have five minutes rest and then get onto the next one," he said. "You don't know how the body will react or get a second wind. It all comes from belief." Molineaux was officially recognized for his accomplishment on June 1, when he received his Record Breakers world record certificate, said SWNS. His journey from injury recovery to world record holder has made him a symbol of perseverance. Said Molineaux, "I like showing people that you can do it through everything, and through anything,"

Canada coach picks Dayne St. Clair to start in goal in Gold Cup quarterfinal
MINNEAPOLIS - Dayne St. Clair has earned the starting job in goal for 30th-ranked Canada against No. 106 Guatemala in Sunday's quarterfinal at the CONCACAF Gold Cup. St. Clair started in the 6-0 win over No. 75 Honduras and 1-1 draw with No. 90 Curaçao while Maxime Crepeau was in goal for the final Group B game, a 2-0 decision over No. 81 El Salvador on Tuesday in Houston. Prior to Sunday, St. Clair and Crepeau had each started 10 games under coach Jesse Marsch. In choosing St. Clair for the knockout round, Marsch has elevated the Minnesota United 'keeper in the pecking order. '(Dayne) has been, I think, outstanding in the tournament and clearly, in training also, very, very strong,' Marsch told a news conference Saturday. 'That being said, I want to also say this has never been an easy decision and our belief in Max is at the highest level as well. And he's trained really well and been really sharp 'I think Dayne has done enough to earn this opportunity. And in this knockout stage, we're trying to put what we think is the team that is the most prepared and most ready for what these matches will be. And for right now for me that's Dayne.' St. Clair was the lone Canadian named to the Major League Soccer all-star team earlier this week. The 28-year-old from Pickering, Ont., is tied for the MLS lead in shutouts with eight and has made 43 saves in 16 matches. St. Clair has kept six clean sheets in 14 appearances for Canada. The 31-year-old Crepeau, a native of Candiac, Que., who plays for the Portland Timbers, has eight shutouts in 26 Canada appearances. Guatemala, meanwhile, has lost goalkeeper Nicho Hagen, a backup with the Columbus Crew, to injury. Sunday's game will be played on a temporary grass surface at the 73,000-capacity U.S. Bank Stadium, home to the NFL's Minnesota Vikings. 'I think the quality of replacement pitches that we have now is much, much better than when I played,' said the 51-year-old Marsch, a former U.S. international. Canada is 10-2-2 all-time against Guatemala and unbeaten in the last five meetings (4-0-1), dating back to a 2-0 loss in August 2004 in World Cup qualifying in Burnaby, B.C. The teams played to a scoreless draw the last time they met, in group play at the 2023 Gold Cup. 'I know we're not the favourite team,' Guatemala coach Luis Fernando Tena said through an interpreter. 'We understand that. We know the stakes — they're very high right now, specifically for Canada. But, well, surprises always come in soccer. So we have faith in us.' Canada had hoped to get influential midfielder Stephan Eustaquio back, with Portugal's FC Porto out of the FIFA Club World Cup. But Marsch said Saturday that Porto, which failed to advance out of the group stage at 0-2-1, had gone back on its word and refused to release him. Canada previously lost Toronto FC midfielder Jonathan Osorio and Vancouver Whitecaps winger Ali Ahmed to injury, leaving its tournament roster at 23 instead of 26. The Canadian men, who won the tournament in 2000, are in the quarterfinals for the fifth straight edition. Canada survived a physical affair with El Salvador, which had two players sent off. Marsch said he did not expect the same kind of physicality from Guatemala. 'They've got some speed and creativity up front and some strong defensive players on the backline,' he said. 'I think they're athletic, maybe a little bit more athletic than El Salvador but I think more disciplined,' he added. 'I don't think we're going to see such a wild performance as what El Salvador delivered. But at the same time I think it will be very spirited. And they will try to set the tone early, that it's not going to be an easy day for us.' Guatemala finished runner-up to No. 33 Panama in Group C, beating No. 63 Jamaica 1-0 and unranked Guadeloupe 3-2 and losing 1-0 to Panama. Guatemala looks to reach the tournament semifinals for just the second time, following 1996 when it lost 1-0 to eventual champion Mexico. The Guatemala roster features four MLS players including Hagen and 18-year-old CF Montreal midfielder Olger Escobar. Sunday's winner will face either the 16th-ranked U.S. or No. 54 Costa Rica in Wednesday's semifinal in St. Louis. Tajon Buchanan and Nathan Saliba lead Canada with two goals apiece. Acting captain Jonathan David, meanwhile, has seven goals in seven appearances at the tournament and leads Canada in all-time Gold Cup scoring. —- This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 28, 2025.
