Athletic Club submit opening offer to re-sign Aymeric Laporte
Laporte, who has also been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, is set to leave Al-Nassr this summer, having already been replaced by David Hancko. A return to Europe beckons for the Spain international, and Athletic are one of the clubs said to be very keen to securing his signature.
The increased interest in Laporte's services will make it difficult for Athletic to re-sign Laporte, and they are prepared to make the effort to bring him back in Bilbao. And taking this into account, they have submitted an opening verbal offer to Al-Nassr, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Athletic won't break the bank to re-sign Laporte
It's not clear how much Athletic are offering, but regardless, it will be difficult for them to re-sign Laporte. As per Diario AS, Al-Nassr want to recover a significant portion of the €27.5m they spent to acquire him from Manchester City two years ago, with the Saudi Pro League side having no intention to agree a mutual contract termination.
And if Laporte does want to return to Athletic, he will need to take a significant wage cut. He earns €25m per season at Al-Nassr, but Los Leones will not pay him anywhere close to this amount. Their idea is for him to be on a lower wage to Williams, whose new deal sees him earn approximately €10m a year.
It remains to be seen whether Athletic are able to secure a dream return to San Mames for Laporte, but they are putting in the work to make it a reality.

Sanctions to be introduced to target people-smuggling gangs
Gang leaders, corrupt police officers and companies selling small boat equipment for Channel crossings could face having their assets frozen and being banned from travel to the UK in efforts to curb the people-smuggling trade. The Foreign Secretary announced on Tuesday a raft of sanctions that will be introduced to target anyone involved in assisting illegal immigration to the UK. This ranges from those involved in supplying and financing small boats, fake passports, and 'middlemen' putting cash through the Hawala system, a legal money transfer system, which is also used in payments linked to Channel crossings. The first wave of sanctions comes into force on Wednesday, and will publicly name anyone sanctioned, so it will be illegal for UK businesses and banks to deal with them. The measure is expected to include more than 20 designations, and could include corrupt public officials and police officers in steps to tackle the multi-billion-dollar industry. Foreign Secretary David Lammy said: 'For too long, criminal gangs have been lining their corrupt pockets and preying on the hopes of vulnerable people with impunity as they drive irregular migration to the UK. We will not accept this status quo. 'That's why the UK has created the world's first sanctions regime targeted at gangs involved in people smuggling and driving irregular migration, as well as their enablers. 'From tomorrow, those involved will face having their assets frozen, being shut off from the UK financial system and banned from travelling to the UK.' It follows legislation being introduced under the Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill to ramp up enforcement powers for police forces and partners to investigate and prosecute people smugglers. Fresh sanctions aim to target organised crime gangs wherever they are in the world and disrupt their flow of cash, including freezing bank accounts, property and other assets, to hinder their activities. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: 'It will allow us to target the assets and operations of people smugglers wherever they operate, cutting off their funding and dismantling their networks piece by piece. 'Through the Border Security Command and key partners like the National Crime Agency, we are strengthening our ties with other nations to tackle this global problem. 'Together, we are sending a clear message that there is no hiding place for those who exploit vulnerable people and put lives at risk for profit.'

Nikita Parris to join newly-promoted London City Lionesses from Brighton
Nikita Parris is poised to join Women's Super League side London City Lionesses after her contract with Brighton & Hove Albion expired. Parris is set to become the latest signing to join London City in a busy summer since their promotion. The club, which is owned by American investor Michelle Kang, have already completed the signings of Danielle van de Donk from Lyon, Sanni Franssi and Elene Lete from Real Sociedad, Isa Kardinaal from Ajax, Teyah Goldie from Arsenal and Poppy Pattinson, also from Brighton. Parris joined Brighton from Manchester United in summer 2024 and scored seven goals in 22 appearances for the club in last season's top flight. The 31-year-old made her senior debut for hometown club Everton in 2010, aged 16, and has since represented Manchester City, OL Lyonnes, Arsenal, United and Brighton. The winger helped Lyon to the Champions League in 2020 as part of a treble-winning campaign, and won the Women's Super League with City in 2016. She has twice won the FA Cup, with City and United, in 2017 and 2024, respectively. A member of England's Euro 2022 winning squad, Parris has won 74 caps for the Lionesses, scoring 17 goals, with her last appearance for the national team coming in February this year. The forward was left out of Sarina Wiegman's England squad for this summer's Euros. She described the decision as 'very disappointing' at the time but insisted she would not have done anything differently during the campaign. 'It's always hard when you get that sort of news,' Parris said in a podcast with Sky Sports. 'The biggest thing for me is that I gave it everything. People say, 'Do you have any regrets or anything you wish you would have done?' And I don't. 'Because of that, there's nothing I can say I wish I could've, would've, should've done.'
