Exclusive: Adivi Sesh calls Dacoit the Sholay of 2025, praises co-star Mrunal Thakur

After carving a niche for himself in the action-thriller space with hits like 'Goodachari', 'Evaru', 'HIT 2', and 'Major', actor Adivi Sesh is now taking an exciting detour with his upcoming film 'Dacoit'. In an exclusive interview with IndiaToday.in, Sesh opened up about stepping into uncharted emotional territory, the creative vision behind 'Dacoit', and why working with Mrunal Thakur has been a transformative experience.advertisementON THE WORLD OF 'DACOIT'Calling Dacoit a 'passion project', Sesh revealed that the film is helmed by his best friend (Shaneil Deo), who, like him, grew up in California. 'He's simultaneously desi and American,' Sesh shared, adding, 'We wanted to tell the story of a modern-day cowboy, just without the costumes.'But this isn't just another stylised action film. 'No Indian story is a true Indian film without heart, without emotion,' he said. 'So we wanted all these heightened emotions in Dacoit set against the backdrop of an angry neo-Western, a 'Sholay' of 2025, if you will.'
Sesh added that the USP of the film is its love story. He said, 'What makes it ultra-special is that this film is ultimately a love story, in the garb of an action film.'ON PRODUCTION HURDLES, CREATIVE CLARITY'Dacoit' reportedly encountered a few setbacks during production, but Sesh insisted that the core creative vision remained intact. The project made headlines earlier this year after Shruti Haasan, who was initially cast as the female lead, exited the film following reported tensions with the makers. When asked about the same, Sesh said, 'It's not really a hurdle when you know that the creatives were never threatened. The affect to the mindset only happens if you don't truly know where you stand creatively. And that was never in doubt.'Watch 'Dacoit' first glimpse here: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sesh Adivi (@adivisesh)ON GENRE-HOPPINGKnown for playing intense roles in police, spy, and army dramas, Sesh acknowledged the shift 'Dacoit' brings to his filmography. 'I am the titular urban action hero here. I get offered a cop film, an army film, a spy film, a patriotic film every week," he said. That's precisely why 'Dacoit' appealed to him. 'It was imperative for me to spread my wings, do genres outside the urban zone; something earthy, something rooted,' he explained.Sesh continued, 'At the same time, there's a certain decorated reality I love in my films. I haven't related to the hardcore mass space, not yet anyway. I like the idea of being relatable in a real way. That way, it feels like the guy you relate to is being put through something extraordinary, and you get invested in his journey, in his victory or his redemption.'CALLED MRUNAL HIS 'LIFE COACH'advertisementSesh further shared glowing praise for co-star Mrunal Thakur, calling her 'positive' and 'vibrant'. He added, 'Because she's constantly living out of her suitcase, she's figured out a way to make any place home. If home is where the heart is, she has her heart on her sleeve, so she's at home wherever she is. That's beautiful to watch and experience with her.'Known for her romantic roles in films like 'Sita Ramam' and 'Hi Nanna', Mrunal may be the poster girl of cinematic love stories, but 'Dacoit', Sesh said, is something else entirely. ''Sita Ramam' and her other films are soft films. 'Dacoit' has an angry edge. It's a deep love story coated in the hard shell of rage,' he explained. When asked whether he had taken any tips from her when it came to romance? Sesh answered, 'So, no tips regarding the film,' he laughed, 'but I have learned so much from her about how to approach life. She's become my defacto life coach in several instances. Imagine getting that for free! (laughs).'advertisementWith 'Dacoit', Adivi Sesh is clearly venturing beyond the action hero mould he helped shape in Telugu cinema. The film promises not just high-stakes action, but a raw, emotional core - something the actor seems deeply proud to bring to audiences. The film also stars Anurag Kashyap in an important role, and is set to hit theatres on December 25, 2025.- Ends

'Jurassic World: Rebirth' box office collection Day 4 – Scarlett Johansson starrer sees major drop, earns Rs 4.25 crore on first Monday

After a roaring start over the weekend, Jurassic World: Rebirth witnessed a significant dip in collections on its first Monday. The Scarlett Johansson-led dinosaur thriller managed to earn an estimated Rs 4.25 crore on Day 4, marking a sharp drop from its Sunday collection of Rs 16.25 crore, according to reports on The film opened on Friday with a strong collection of Rs 9.25 crore, saw growth over Saturday with Rs 13.5 crore, and peaked on Sunday. Its three-day opening weekend stood at an impressive Rs 39 crore net. According to the film's production house, the movie opened to an extraordinary start, with a massive box office collection of Rs 49.3 crores in the Indian release weekend. With this, the film's box office total even surpassed the opening weekend numbers of Jurassic World: Dominion (Rs 44 crore gross in India). However, Monday's decline from the weekend high signals the usual weekday slump, raising questions about how the film will sustain through the week. The overall India net collection now stands at approximately ₹43.25 crore after four days. Language-wise, the English version continues to dominate with Rs 18.5 crore over the weekend, followed by the Hindi dub at Rs 13.5 crore. The Tamil and Telugu versions together contributed Rs 6.2 crore. Monday's drop was visible across all language markets. This action-packed new chapter sees an extraction team venture into the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, inhabited by the most uncontrollable giants that were left behind. Audience word-of-mouth remains mixed, with some praise coming in for Johansson's performance and the film's visual spectacle, but some criticism was directed at the predictable plot. The coming days will be crucial for the film's long-term run, especially with new releases like the superhero movie 'Superman' lined up for release later this week.

Sudhanshu Pandey reveals a special gift given from Anupamaa's on-screen father Arvind Vaidya

Anupamaa actor Sudhanshu Pandey , known for playing the layered and intense character of Vanraj Shah, recently opened up his beautifully designed home in an interview with Mashable India. His space reflects his personality—calm, rooted, and spiritually inclined. Among the many highlights of his serene home is a unique Mahadev-themed art piece that holds deep emotional value for him. The actor revealed that the centerpiece was a heartfelt gift from his Anupamaa co-star Arvind Vaidya , who plays Vanraj's on-screen father, Bapuji. 'This art piece was given to me by my Bapuji. He played my father in Anupamaa. Aunty and he gifted me this,' Sudhanshu shared with pride and affection. The Mahadev fountain, with its continuous flow of water, has a special mechanism that mimics an abhishek. 'The best part is that 24x7 abhishek hoti rehti hai, constantly water is flowing. It's a fountain type mechanism. It is a very positive thing,' he explained, adding how the sacred corner in his house brings him peace and a sense of grounding. A vastu specialist also painted a special wall hanging near the corner to enhance the space's spiritual energy. Beyond his spiritual side, Sudhanshu Pandey's career is as layered as the characters he plays. He started as a model and was also a member of the first Indian boy band A Band of Boys. He later transitioned to acting and made his mark in Bollywood with films like Khiladi 420, Singh Is Kinng, and Dus Kahaniyaan. However, it was his role as Vanraj in Anupamaa that brought him massive fame and critical acclaim, establishing him as one of Indian television's most compelling male leads. From music to movies to prime-time television, Sudhanshu Pandey continues to inspire with both his craft and personal grace. He was last seen in web reality show called Traitors.
