NFC West edge rusher rankings: Where do the Rams stand among rivals?
Rushing the passer is the hallmark of a good defense. It can upset the flow of an opposing offense, rattle the quarterback and allow the defense to impose its will whenever it needs to in a game.
But, building a competent pass rush is easier said than done. The Los Angeles Rams tied for 20th in sacks this season with 38 and around the same in quarterback knockdown and pressure rate. The hope for L.A. is that the young duo of Jared Verse and Byron Young continue to develop, but how do they compare with the rest of the division?
Here are our rankings for the best pass-rushing units in the NFC West.
4. Seattle Seahawks
Seattle's edge rushers are an interesting bunch. Lawrence is an aging star, Nwosu's productivity continues to decline and Mafe has been middle of the road on the sack front.
3. Arizona Cardinals
Sweat is the big name from here considering he thrived in Philadelphia both before and after now-Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon left. Collins and Browning are great auxiliary pieces, too.
2. Los Angeles Rams
The Rams have two great edge rushers in Verse and Young, and even have third-rounder Josaiah Stewart waiting in the wings. This is a formidable unit that is among the best in the NFC West despite their youth.
1. San Francisco 49ers
Any list with Bosa on it immediately goes to the top. First-round rookie Mykel Williams is a nice piece as well, who could thrive in Saleh's defense, while Gross-Matos had four sacks in 2024.

NFC West safety rankings: Where do the Rams line up?
Safety is perhaps the last line of defense for any team. This unit needs to be good at coverage as well as tackling in the open field. Some are even good at sacking the quarterback. Like the rest of their secondary, the Los Angeles Rams aren't among the heaviest hitters in the safety department. Kamren Kinchens proved to be a great starter for L.A., but Kamren Curl leaves elements to be desired. This group pales in comparison to some of the more veteran-laden and explosive groups in the NFC West. Here are our rankings for the top safety units in the division. 4. San Francisco 49ers Mustapha and Brown are very young starters with a combined three years of experience between them. They were good enough to keep their roles in 2025, but still need developing. 3. Los Angeles Rams Kinchens was a stud for the Rams in 2024 with four interceptions. Curl is a solid secondary player, too, though he lacks the ball-hawking and tackling skills of a premier safety. 2. Seattle Seahawks Bryant and Love combined for six interceptions, 18 defended passes, three forced fumbles and almost 200 combined tackles. 1. Arizona Cardinals Baker is the star of this group with six consecutive Pro Bowls to his name and a career-best 164 combined tackles in 2024. Thompson is a quality starter as well.

Yankees-Cardinals Blockbuster Trade Idea Sends Nolan Arenado and Ryan Helsley to New York
Yankees-Cardinals Blockbuster Trade Idea Sends Nolan Arenado and Ryan Helsley to New York originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The St. Louis Cardinals have been surprisingly competitive this year, sitting at 43-36, which is good for 3.5 games back of first in the NL Central and in tied for the last wild card. Advertisement However, as June ends and July trade rumors begin to percolate, the rumors of a Nolan Arenado trade have not cooled even as the weather has spiked. Arenado was linked to the Yankees nearly the entirety of this offseason. As the Yankees' need for an everyday third baseman has grown, these rumors have reached a feverish pitch. ESPN's Jeff Passan proposed the Yankees as a fit for Arenado and another former St. Louis all-star, so why not get greedy and propose a package? Cardinals' Nolan Arenado and Ryan Helsley Chenoy-Imagn Images Passan gave Arenado and Helsley each a 30% chance of being traded, which would mean 9% odds of both being traded (basic mathematics skills are helpful here). Advertisement The Yankees need bullpen depth, and Helsley has the track record (49 saves in 2024) but his WHIP has gone up to 1.44 from 1.10 and his barrel percentage has climbed from 3.7% to 6.8% from 2024 to 2025, according to Baseball Savant. As a result, Helsley might be cheaper now than ever. How about this hypothetical trade proposal: Yankees get: INF Nolan Arenado, RHP Ryan Helsley Cardinals get: OF Jasson Dominguez, INF Oswaldo Cabrera, RHP Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz (NYY No. 6), $37 million in cash considerations for Arenado's contract. Arenado is owed $52 million from the Cardinals, and by trading him to the Yankees, in this scenario, the Yankees would cover the remainder of Arenado's 2025/2026 salary. Advertisement In addition to the cash, the Cardinals get Dominguez, a former No. 1 prospect who would be a young bat to alleviate the Cardinals' reliance on Jordan Walker for everyday reps. The Cardinals wouldn't get Cabrera until at least September as he recovers from ankle surgery, and Rodriguez-Cruz (acquired in the Carlos Narvaez-Boston trade) is promising, but would likely not make the big league roster until 2027., If the Cardinals value a longer window for contention instead of hanging onto assets like Arenado and Helsley who would help them win now, then this trade would prove advantageous over time. On the other side, the Yankees get one of the best everyday third basemen in baseball and another high-octane arm to loosen the burden on potential question marks like Ian Hamilton and Mark Leiter Jr as they look to finally win their 28th ring. Jared Verse hates Eagles fans, but calls them the best opposing fan base
Before the Rams and Eagles met in the playoffs, Rams linebacker Jared Verse said he hates Eagles fans. Verse hasn't backed off from that, but he also respects the passion of the fans who he says scream obscenities at him from the stands. In an interview with the YouTube channel Whistle, Verse was asked to name the best opposing fan base. 'Probably the Eagles,' Verse answered. 'I've got to give them that. I like when you kind of get into it, you're aggressive, you're loud, and they stand by that with no doubt.' Verse also said the Eagles are the toughest crowd to play in front of in the NFL. 'Playing the Eagles is like playing your rival in college because you never know what they're going to say, and they're going to try to say disrespectful stuff,' Verse said. 'They're going to bring something up. Don't get me wrong, they're not going to say anything where it's like, 'Bro, you crossed a line,' but they're going to say something where you're like, 'Hey, who you talking to?'' Verse will hear it from Eagles fans again in Week Three, when the Rams visit Philadelphia.
