I'm A Fashion Editor – These Comfy Summer Sandals Are The New Birkenstocks
As a self-confessed Birkenstock stan (seriously, between the months of April to October they're all I'm wearing in the shoe department) it takes A LOT for me to consider donning anything different. That is, until Keen came along.
With 2025 belonging solely (get it) to so-called 'ugly' shoes, footwear that brings a little weirdo charm to the proceedings, note the beautifully clompy platform Crocs or wonderfully bizarre ballerina-sneaker hybrids that, on paper, should not work but in practise look fantastic. Toeing the line (sorry) between sandals and 'proper' shoes and sitting comfortably within the aforementioned 'odd looking shoe' zeitgeist, Keen's Uneek sandals are emerging as one of 2025's breakout shoe trends for summer. And best of all... THEY'RE REALLY COMFY.
My first foray into the Keen Uneek style began with a trip to Vietnam in 2024. With packing space at a minimum, temperatures hitting the early 40s and with plenty of steps on the horizon, I needed something I could travel in, hike in (well, walk up some big hills) and explore in without the worry of blisters. Enter Keen, a brand that started off as the practical choice for the Gorpcore girlies, not only are the soles built for purpose and super grippy but the string breathable exterior keeps your feel completely cool. Finally the elastic fastening is completely adjustable meaning you can easily tighten up or slip off making them ideal for airports. This techy style was quickly adopted by the fashion pack, offering up change from the usual slides and trainers and cementing their seal of sartorial approval.
Want to wear yours with full hiking gear for a clamber up the nearest hill? Sure, go for it. More interested in pottering to your local for an Aperol in the sunshine? Be my guest. Wherever you're off to, these are just the ticket, looking just as good with a floaty summer dress and sunglasses as they will with leggings and a windbreaker.
So if you, too, are also always on the hunt for comfy summer sandals (sorry, blisters are simply never worth it no matter how beautiful those heels are) I can confirm these are some of the best around...
Keen, Uneek Sandals In Off-White
Consider go-with-everything cream as your new everyday go-to pair. Although a pale shade, the off-white colour camouflages inevitable marks and smudges.
Keen, Uneek Sandals In Pink
Try the bubblegum pink and blue colourway for a fun, techy take. Wear yours with white parachute pants and a tank top for the easiest summer outfit.
Keen, Uneek Sandals In Khaki
Whether you're off exploring or heading out for a day running errand, this khaki shade will see you all the way through the summer and beyond.
Keen, Uneek Sandals In Black
If your wardrobe is devoid of colour (mine too) consider the all black version that's guarenteed to go with every item of clothing you own.

These Divisive Designer Sandals Are A Fashion Favourite
Coperni knows a thing or two about orchestrating viral content. From Bella Hadid's live spray-on dress, to Kylie Jenner's Disneyland runway debut, and the iconic glass Swipe bag, the Parisian fashion house has perfected the art of creating a 'moment'. But it's not just the sharable snippets that've taken Coperni to household-name status, it's the ability to create clothes and accessories that people really want to wear. Case in point, the Coperni wedge sandals that have appeared season after season - and always seem to sell out. So, what's the draw? Whilst, on paper, platform flip-flops shouldn't work the reality is actually rather aesthetically pleasing. Not only are flip-flops one of 2025's biggest footwear trends but the chunky wedge heel packs plenty of Y2K punch. Plus, the platform foam sole is surprisingly comfy, easy to stroll around in and also available in different heights. Finally, they seem to go with everything from capri pants to maxi dresses. Whether you're headed to the beach, walking around the city or off for a night out – these wedges expertly toe the line between dressed up and dressed down depending on your outfit, ensuring you get your money's worth. On the subject of cost, every now and then a designer item hits the price point sweet spot between extortionate and relatively accessible, meaning us 'normal folk' can actually get in on the action without totally breaking the bank, note Loewe's sell-out logo tank top or Miu Miu's oval sunglasses, both of which have crossed over from pipe-dream-purchase into something that we're willing to spend our hard-earned cash on. So, although these wedges are in the hundreds, rest assured they'll soon earn their keep. Black Wedge Heeled Sandals Opt for classic black for a pair that'll go with everything from bikinis and sarongs to trackies and tank tops. Blue Denim Wedge Heeled Sandal For denim head to toe, consider this indigo blue denim pair that are selling out at super speed. Plus you can currently save over £60 on this colourway. Logo Wedge Sandals Try something tropical with a floral-print thong strap - ideal for your next summer holiday. Black And Pink Wedge Sandals Add a touch of pastel pink to proceedings with this pink and black colourway. Blue Denim Wedge Sandals Arriving last season, the blue denim version is proving to be a firm favourite with the fashion pack. Don't go on holiday until you've seen the best beauty travel buys
Summer holidays are go- but which travel tribe do you belong to? You can tell a lot about someone from the contents of their tray at airport security. Dame Helen Mirren has one major rule to keep looking youthful ahead of 80th
The acclaimed actress Dame Helen Mirren says a little bit of adventure is ideal as long as its in moderation Dame Helen Mirren has revealed her best tip for youngsters to stay looking young - don't smoke and try everything. The acclaimed actress will turn 80 next month but looks much younger than her advancing years. Asked for advice she said: 'Don't smoke, that's rule number one and do everything but don't do too much of anything. That's a great way of looking at things, because it's important to take care of your health, but you also don't want to live like a nun.' Dame Helen, who won an Oscar for Elizabeth II one of a number of royals she has played, says she will never get used to being a star and has a lack of ego. She explained: 'It always surprises me when someone comes up to me in a supermarket or an airport and says that they think I'm great, but it's lovely. This sort of thing is fun. It's fabulous. It's fantastic. It doesn't feel right to say that I'm proud of being a role model to people, but it's a great feeling.' Dame Helen also says she has always been a make up fan and still enjoys spending hours putting it on as one of life's pleasures. Speaking to Grazia magazine, as part of of her role as a L'Oreal ambassador, she said: 'My idea of a treat is going into a drug store and buying myself another lip liner. I sit at my little desk at home and can spend hours putting my makeup on. It's something I've always loved to do. 'It's not that I don't like trying new products. The innovation is amazing, but it's heartbreaking when you hit on a foundational mascara that you love, the golden chalice, only to find that a few years later that has been discontinued.' She takes her role so seriously as an ambassador that she even took a box of their hair dye home with her to try out herself before promoting it. Confirming the rumour she said: 'That's the point of the whole thing, isn't it? I wanted to do it myself, to genuinely be Able to tell people it's a great product, which it is." Dame Helen also praised a new L'Oreal initiative promoting women in the film industry. Looking back over her career, which began on stage at The Old Vic playing Cleopatra aged 20, she said: 'When I arrived on the scene as an actress, I'd step onto set and there would be 150 men and three women, almost exclusively, working in the costume and hair and makeup departments. "Now, when I walk onto a film set, maybe a quarter of the people there are women, and I'm talking about women directors, cinematographers, women in the sound department, in the electrical department. It's moving. We will next see Dame Helen on screen in Netflix 's film version of the Richard Osman book The Thursday Murder Club, where she is playing retirement village sleuth Elizabeth Best. It is released on August 28. * The full interview is in the latest edition of Grazia Magazine, out now.
