KUALA LUMPUR - The Harimau Malaya squad welcomed a timely boost ahead of their Group F AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifier match against Vietnam at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil on June 10, following the inclusion of four new heritage players for the country.

"All four players have been undergoing training sessions with the team for several days and have shown very impressive performances. As quality players, they are well prepared to strengthen the national squad to realize the dreams of all Malaysians," the statement read.
Meanwhile, Machuca, 25, stated that the opportunity to wear the national team colours is very special and a great honor for him.
Holgado, 29, admitted that he has fallen in love with the atmosphere in Malaysia and is ready to give his all for the team coached by Peter Cklamovski.
Irazabal, 28, shared his excitement about playing for the national squad, describing it as an unique moment, while Figueiredo, 29, expressed his desire to go further with Harimau Malaya on the Asian stage.
The inclusion of these four players brings the total number of new heritage players for Malaysia this year to seven.
Previously, FAM had secured the services of three heritage players, namely center-back Facundo Garces, who played in Argentina's top league; Portimonense SC midfielder Hector Hevel from Portugal; and left-back Gabriel Palmero, who represents Spanish club CD Tenerife B.
Malaysia and Vietnam currently share the top spot in Group F of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers with three points each after both recorded wins in their opening matches.
Harimau Malaya began their Group F campaign with a 2-0 victory over Nepal at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri, Johor last March, while Vietnam defeated Laos 5-0 at home. - BERNAMA

No surprises as Malaysia concludes Singapore worlds campaign
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's campaign at the World Aquatics Championships came to conclusion in Singapore today (Aug 3) as Elvis Clement missed the cut for the men's 10 metre platform individual final. Elvis' dives scored 67.50, 67.20, 79.20, 52.70, 57.60, 75.60 for a 399.80 total which placed him 16th from 18 divers in the semi-final at the OCBC Aquatics Centre. Only the top-12 advanced to the final. In swimming, Jayden Tan placed 29th from 32 starters in the men's 400 metre individual medley preliminaries after clocking four minutes and 30.90 seconds. Only the top-eight advanced. The duo concluded what had essentially been a quiet outing for the Malaysian contingent in Singapore, highlighting the fact that Malaysia is still going through a transition period in both diving and swimming. Elvis, 18, was arguably Malaysia's best performer in diving at the Singapore world meet. Besides reaching the 10m platform individual semi-final, he and partner Enrique Harold (22) finished seventh in the 10m platform synchronised earlier this week. It was the highest-ever finish by a Malaysian pair at the World Championships. Earlier in the competition, veteran Pandelela Rinong, 32, was forced to withdraw from the women's 10m platform synchronised due to a recurring shoulder injury after just two dives with partner Lee Yiat Qing. The injury also forced her to also sit out the 10m platform individual. Pandelela and Nur Dhabitah Sabri, 26, were the last Malaysians to win medals at the world championships. Pandelela won the 10m platform individual bronze as well as the 10m platform synchronised bronze with Dhabitah at the 2022 edition in Hungary. Dhabitah, who has been Malaysia's most outstanding senior diver in recent seasons, has opted to take a break from competition this year and thus did not compete in Singapore. To be fair to the national swimmers, most of them had peaked at the World University Games (WUG) in Berlin a fortnight ago where they had a more realistic chance of fighting for the podium. Khiew Hoe Yean clocked a new national record en route to winning Malaysia its first WUG swimming medal, a silver (400m freestyle), in 34 years in Germany. Nevertheless, there were still some encouraging performances in Singapore. Hoe Yean, 22, had been battling jet lag and travel fatigue after coming straight from Berlin on the eve of the competition but managed to churn out a season's best performance in the men's 200m freestyle in Singapore. Jayden, 20, who had also competed at WUG, also managed a season's best in the men's 200m individual medley. Phee Jinq En, 27, was forced to sit out the women's 100m breaststroke due to a hip injury but came back strong to come within four-tenths of a second of her 50m breaststroke national record from 2019. It was her fastest time in the event in over five years. For the swimmers, their next major assignment will be the Thailand Sea Games (Dec 9-20) which will provide a clear indication of how far they have progressed since the last edition of the games.

IJM Allianz Duo Highway Challenge goes sustainable in hosting 13,000 runners
KUALA LUMPUR: More than 13,000 runners took over the closed highways of New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and Lebuhraya Sungai Besi (Besraya) earlier today for the IJM Allianz Duo Highway Challenge 2025. Malaysians made up 80 per cent of the participants, with the remaining 20 per cent hailing from about 30 countries. The seventh edition of the running event featured multiple a 42.195km full marathon, 21km half marathon, and 10km and 5km runs. Organised in collaboration with IJM Corporation Bhd and Allianz Malaysia Bhd, this year's edition also introduced several sustainability initiatives, namely a bottle collection and recycling effort; sustainable race apparel and paperless race experience. Over 16,000 plastic bottles used during the race were collected and sent to an authorised recycling facility, ensuring zero plastic waste. Paper cups were also separated and collected for recycling. This initiative was carried out in collaboration with Trash4Cash and with the support of 286 volunteers at the water stations. This year's race apparel was made from biodegradable, high-performance recycled fabrics, a first for the event, combining eco-consciousness with athletic function. The event also adopted digital registration, race packs details and e-certificates to reduce paper consumption while improving convenience for participants IJM Corporation Bhd group chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Lee Chun Fai said the event challenged them each year to raise the bar, not just in terms of race distance, but also in how they activate their highways for the community. "Now, World Athletics-certified and with strong support from our partners, the event delivers a race that meets international standards while staying rooted in the local spirit. "From recycled race apparel to paperless race experiences, we are proud to see how the event has become a platform for healthier living, environmental responsibility and shared momentum year after year," he said.
