Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal-backed LAT Aerospace buys Bombardier jet? All you need to know

Mint5 days ago
Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal has issued a clarification after a report on Wednesday said LAT Aerospace, a company backed by him, has bought a Bombardier Global jet.
'For those who want facts more than clickbaity headlines – LAT is a startup, and has not bought any private jet. LAT is about making planes for regional aviation, and is not in the business of buying plane,' Goyal said in a post on X.
'And, I don't own one personally either. Will be nice to have one though,' he further clarified.
As per the report by Moneycontrol quoting multiple sources, Bombardier Global series aircraft was scheduled to start operations from July 16. The jet has been seen parked in the Delhi airport's VIP bay since June 2025.
The exact model of the aircraft could not be ascertained by the report. The registration of the aircraft, as well as the purpose of its flight today were also not known.
As per the report, Indamer MJets Airport Services and Bird Execujet Airport Services are responsible for the ground handling and engineering of the Bombardier Global jet.
Earlier in June, LAT Aerospace co-founder Surobhi Das confirmed that Deepinder Goyal is eyeing the regional air travel segment with the aircraft startup.
"While building Zomato and flying across India, Deepinder and I kept circling back to the same question: Why is regional air travel still so broken - expensive, infrequent and mostly out of reach unless you live in a metro? India has 450 airstrips - but only 150 see commercial flights. That means nearly two-thirds of our aviation potential is being wasted. Meanwhile, millions in Tier 2 and 3 cities spend hours - sometimes days - traveling by road or rail," Das said in a LinkedIn post.
Goyal's bet on the aviation venture could redefine regional air travel in India which is at a nascent stage, as uncertainty remains over regulatory clearance, technological capability and public adoption.
The reported development on LAT Aerospace comes days after Deepinder Goyal bought a nearly 11,000 sq ft apartment in DLF's ultra luxury project in Gurugram for ₹ 52.3 crore.
According to Zapkey, the Zomato co-founder bought this apartment in 'DLF Camellias' project from DLF Ltd in August 2022. The registration of the house was done in March this year.

Blinkit tops Zomato in order value as Eternal posts strong Q1 growth

BENGALURU: Blinkit has overtaken Zomato 's core food delivery business in net order value for the first time, marking a key shift in the business composition of Eternal Ltd, the listed parent of Zomato, Blinkit, Hyperpure and event-ticketing arm District. The company reported a 70% year-on-year rise in consolidated revenue to Rs 7,167 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, driven largely by the growth of its quick commerce vertical. The company posted a net profit of Rs 25 crore, down 90% from Rs 253 crore a year earlier, due to higher investments in Blinkit and other emerging verticals. Adjusted Ebitda declined 42% year-on-year to Rs 172 crore. Revenue from Blinkit more than doubled to Rs 2,400 crore during the quarter, while Zomato's food delivery business grew 16% to Rs 2,261 crore. Blinkit's net order value (NOV) rose 127% year-on-year to Rs 9,203 crore, slightly surpassing Zomato's Rs 8,967 crore. This is the first quarter where Blinkit has exceeded the company's core food delivery arm in order value, indicating a shift in strategic weight toward quick commerce. Zomato's food delivery unit showed stable growth, with a 10% sequential increase in revenue and steady improvement in margins. Adjusted Ebitda margin for the vertical improved to 5% of NOV, up from 3.9% in the year-ago period. Monthly transacting users rose to 22.9 million from 20.3 million last year, while average monthly transacting restaurant partners stood at around 2,38,000. Blinkit, which operates a network of over 500 dark stores, continues to be loss-making at the Ebitda level, reporting a loss of Rs 162 crore for the quarter, although this improved marginally from Rs 178 crore in the previous quarter. Eternal announced the incorporation of a new subsidiary, Blinkit Foods, to explore parallel commerce models including cooked food delivery. Hyperpure, the company's B2B supplies vertical for restaurants, generated Rs 2,295 crore in revenue, up 89% year-on-year. District, Eternal's going-out and ticketing vertical, saw revenue more than double to Rs 207 crore from Rs 95 crore in the same quarter last year. During the quarter, the company granted around 1 million stock options to employees under its Esop plans, valued at about Rs 26 crore. Eternal has said Esops are a key lever in long-term talent retention, especially as it scales newer businesses. Eternal closed the quarter with a consolidated gross order value (GOV) of Rs 21,729 crore across its platforms, up from Rs 13,544 crore a year ago. The company said it would continue to invest in growing Blinkit and Hyperpure, even as it keeps food delivery profitable and cash-generating. Zomato parent firm Eternal incorporates food services arm, Blinkit Foods

Eternal, the parent company of Zomato and Blinkit, plans to incorporate a wholly owned subsidiary, Blinkit Foods Limited, the company said in an exchange filing on Monday. Focused on the food services sector, the company said that Blinkit Foods will be engaged in innovation, preparation, sourcing, sale, and food delivery. "Blinkit Foods is proposed to be incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary and would, inter alia, engage in the business of providing food services (including innovation, preparation, sourcing, sale, and delivery of food to customers)," the company said in a stock exchange filing. While details remain unclear about the specific focus of Blinkit Foods, it is likely to support Blinkit's quick commerce operations, particularly its 10-minute food delivery service, Bistro. The service, which is being expanded, is currently active in Bengaluru and Delhi-NCR via 38 kitchens. The new entity will be established with a proposed authorised share capital of ₹1 crore, and a proposed paid-up share capital of ₹10 lakh, consisting of ₹1 lakh equity shares with a face value of ₹10 each. According to Deepinder Goyal, the company's co-founder and chief executive officer, preliminary data shows that these kitchens are generating incremental demand without cannibalising the Zomato (the company's food delivery arm) business. He added that through the platform, the company is tapping into two demand pockets, including customers who are looking for high-quality but low-cost meals and those looking for 'snacky' food in 10 minutes. "While customer-side traction is pretty strong, we need to work and find answers to making money in this business. We will therefore continue to make calibrated investments towards building a scalable and profitable business here and will keep you posted when we have more to share," Goyal said in the shareholders' letter as the company also announced its financial results for the first quarter of FY26.
