Despite the defeat, MI New York also advanced to the playoffs, their vastly superior Net Run Rate keeping them ahead of the Seattle Orcas.

After choosing to bat in a rain-affected match that was reduced to 18 overs per side, MI New York's reshuffled lineup struggled for fluency. Monank Patel fell early, and Nicholas Pooran's quickfire start — including two crisp boundaries — ended abruptly. First, Glenn Maxwell struck twice in a burst, and Glenn Phillips followed suit with a double-wicket over of his own.
The pitch assisted spin with turn and variable bounce, and Washington's attack used it to full effect.

Amid the collapse, debutant Kunwarjeet Singh impressed with a composed 33 on his T20 debut, showcasing maturity against spin. But once he fell to Phillips, the innings lost steam. Sunny Patel and Heath Richards added some lower-order resistance, guiding MI New York past 100 to finish on 112/8. Maxwell returned figures of 3/29, while Phillips was tidy and incisive with 2/4 in his only over.
Washington's chase began with the early loss of Mitch Owen, and Rachin Ravindra's departure followed soon after. But Mark Chapman's brisk 27 off 18 balls settled nerves. Though he and Maxwell fell in quick succession, Gous took command, striking three boundaries in the 14th over to break the back of the chase. He remained unbeaten on 46 from 34 balls, calmly steering his team home with 18 balls to spare.
Major League Cricket 2025 Explained: Teams, Schedule & Where to Watch
For Washington, the win ensured a top-two finish and a direct path to Qualifier 1 — a reward for consistent performances throughout the season. MI New York, meanwhile, completed the league stage in fourth place, their playoff hopes never really threatened due to a healthy NRR cushion over the Orcas. Their selection experiment may not have earned them a win, but it offered valuable exposure to help strengthen the bench heading into the playoff games.

5th Youth ODI: England beat India, but how many did 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi score?
India's U-19 team wrapped up their one-day tour in England on a disappointing note, falling to a dominant seven-wicket defeat in the fifth and final Youth ODI on Monday. Despite the loss, all eyes remained on 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a fighting 33, keeping fans intrigued after his record-breaking hundred earlier in the series. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Having already sealed the five-match series 3-1 with a commanding 55-run win in the fourth ODI, India rested key players and shuffled the lineup. But their batting faltered after electing to bat first in Worcester. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. Skipper Ayush Mhatre (1) and Vihaan Malhotra (1) fell cheaply within the first three overs, leaving India tottering at 9 for 2. Suryavanshi then stepped up with a composed 33 off 42 balls, striking three fours and two sixes. He stitched together a vital 51-run stand with Rahul Kumar (21) that helped stabilise the innings briefly. However, Suryavanshi perished trying to accelerate, caught by Alex Green off Sebastian Morgan. Middle-order batters struggled to convert starts, with Harvnash Pangalia (24), Kanishk Chauhan (24), and Deepesh Devendran (0) falling in quick succession. RS Ambrish was the lone standout, scoring a resilient 66 off 81 balls, anchoring the innings with six boundaries. Poll How do you rate India's overall performance in the U-19 series? Excellent Good Average Poor India eventually posted 210 for 9 in their 50 overs, a total that proved inadequate on a batting-friendly surface. In reply, England made light work of the chase. Ben Mayes led the charge with an unbeaten 82, supported by BJ Dawkins's explosive 66 and skipper Thomas Rew's unbeaten 49 off just 37 balls. England reached the target in just 31.1 overs, winning with 113 balls to spare. Naman Pushpak took 2 wickets for India, but the visitors were thoroughly outplayed as England ended the series on a high note.

'Mahi bhai, keep playing': Indian cricketer wishes MS Dhoni on his 44th birthday
MS Dhoni (PTI Photo) As MS Dhoni turned 44 on Monday, wishes poured in from across the cricketing world — but one stood out. 'Happy birthday, Mahi bhai. Keep playing,' wrote India pacer Deepak Chahar on Instagram, echoing the sentiment of millions of fans who still aren't ready to see the legendary captain hang up his IPL boots. Dhoni, who retired from international cricket in 2020, remains the beating heart of the Chennai Super Kings franchise. Deepak Chahar's post on MS Dhoni's birthday Despite battling a chronic knee issue and advancing age, Dhoni led CSK through a turbulent IPL 2025 season, stepping in as captain when Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined by injury. His leadership and presence helped the five-time champions stay competitive, even as he batted lower down the order and played more of a mentoring role. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Though his once-explosive batting has lost its edge, the Dhoni phenomenon remains unmatched. Stadiums still sell out just to witness a glimpse of "Thala", whether he's behind the stumps, walking out at No. 8, or simply tossing the coin at the toss. In June, Dhoni added another feather to his glittering cap when he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, Class of 2025, becoming one of the few players to be honoured for excelling across all formats and leading India to major ICC titles — the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy. Poll Do you think MS Dhoni should return for IPL 2026? Yes, definitely! No, it's time to retire. But will he return for IPL 2026? Dhoni remains non-committal. "It depends. Again, I would say the same thing (that) I have four-five months to decide, there's no hurry to decide what needs to be done,' he said after IPL 2025 ended. For now, Dhoni is enjoying a quieter life in Ranchi, but as always, the spotlight follows him — and the hope remains that he'll walk out in yellow one more time.
