Anurag Kashyap's ‘Kennedy' impresses at NYIFF, fuels call for Indian theatrical release
At NYIFF, the film's first screening sold out in just 40 seconds, prompting organisers to add another show. Bhat, who plays the titular role of a sleepless ex-cop operating within a corrupt system, has been nominated for Best Actor. 'I'm truly honoured to be nominated for Best Actor at NYIFF,' he said. 'The love Kennedy has received across the world is incredibly humbling.'
Kashyap is also in the running for Best Director. The film, produced by Ranjan Singh and Kabir Ahuja under Good Bad Films and Zee Studios, features Sunny Leone in a supporting role alongside Mohit Takalkar, Abhilash Thapliyal, Megha Burman, Karishma Modi, and Jeniffer Piccinato.
Following the NYIFF screening, Kashyap and Bhat participated in a Q&A session where audience members praised the film's storytelling, music, and performances. One viewer called it 'a masterpiece in Hindi cinema' and questioned why it hasn't seen a theatrical release in India.
Despite its international acclaim, Kennedy remains unreleased in Indian cinemas, which has been a point of frustration for many fans. With growing demand on social media and at festival screenings, the pressure is mounting for a domestic release.

Vikrant Massey dismisses insider-outsider debate as noise from outside the industry: 'This is only social media chatter'
Vikrant Massey dismisses the Bollywood insider-outsider debate as social media hype, saying industry insiders don't see such divisions. Starting from TV, he's made a mark with films like 'Chhapaak'. His upcoming film 'Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan' stars Shanaya Kapoor and releases on July 11, exploring love and blindness. Vikrant Massey , recognized as one of the standout actors of his generation, has addressed the ongoing debate about insiders versus outsiders in Bollywood. He believes this divide is mostly outsized and fueled by social media, rather than reflecting the true dynamics within the industry. Addresses Insider-Outsider Debate During his interview with Screen, Vikrant pointed out that the insider-outsider debate is mostly stirred up by individuals outside the film community. He explained that within the industry, such divisions are not as clear-cut. As he put it, 'This is only social media chatter. It is only done by those who are not part of the film industry.' Career Journey and Industry Perspective Massey began his journey in the entertainment world through television before making a mark in critically acclaimed films such as 'A Death in the Gunj', 'Chhapaak', and '12th Fail'. Although he does not come from a film family, he has successfully established a strong foothold in the industry. He explained that within their professional circle, the insider-outsider divide is largely nonexistent. According to him, most people in the fraternity, including himself—often labeled an outsider—do not perceive any such divide. He emphasized that this notion is merely a social media creation, and therefore, it is not something they pay attention to, as it holds no truth. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Nagelpilz-Clip bricht Verkaufsrekorde - funktioniert er wirklich? Global icon Priyanka Chopra has admitted that even she misses working in the Hindi film industry. Recently, the actress was promoting her newly released movie, Heads of State, when she opened up about being away for a long time. 'I miss Hindi movies and I miss India so much," she told India Today. However, the actress shared that she is working in India currently and will soon star in SS Rajamouli's upcoming movie, SSMB29. However, for now, it is known that the film is expected to be an action-adventure drama in the vein of Indiana Jones, a genre Rajamouli's father and veteran writer Vijayendra Prasad has also confirmed in several interviews. Rajamouli even did a location recce in Kenya back in 2024, which suggests that at least a part of the movie will be filmed there. Looks like many of you already know him. He is very handsome. Hopefully, we finish the film a little bit fast and during the release, I will bring him here, and I'll introduce him to you. I'm sure you will love him as well," he had said. Priyanka Chopra's Another Hindi Movie – Jee Le Zara PeeCee was also supposed to collaborate with Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt for Farhan Akhtar's movie – Jee Le Zara. In February this year, Farhan opened up about the delay in this film when he told The Hindu, 'The astronomy of it is all messed up: my rahu is in my ketu (laughs). Unfortunately, it will take more time. I am optimistic that it will happen when it has to happen. There is a time for everything. I don't want to stress out over this one project. I have other things to do (like Don 3 with Ranveer Singh)." First Published:

It's time people knew I can sing more than party songs: Aastha Gill
Singer Aastha Gill is one of the artistes who represent India's swelling presence on the global stage, whether it is a Cannes Film Festival or being live on stage. Aastha, who made her Cannes red carpet debut this year, views the invitation to Indian singers (Diljit Dosanjh also debuted at Cannes this year), apart from actors at global events, to the boom of Indian music. 'What's happening right now is just crazy — in the best way possible,' says Aastha, about the rise of Indian musicians. 'There was a time when just a couple of Indian names popped up internationally every year. Now, we have a whole spectrum of actors, singers, influencers , and even independent artists representing India on the global stage.' But beyond the glam and fame of red carpets and flashbulbs at live events, Aastha is excited about the cultural shift towards Indian music and the pull Indian singers have started exerting on international collaborators . 'All the big global artists are reaching out to Indian singers for collabs whether it's Ed Sheeran, Sia, or Akon, Nick Jonas. They want to feature with Indian musicians. They're not asking us to tone down the desi flavour. They want the Indian melodies, the rhythmic textures, and the soul of Indian's music culture.' She says her tracks like Naagin and Papi too got her global attention, with international DJs and artists reaching out to her in DMs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Descubra aparelhos auditivos de alta qualidade sem gastar um único cêntimo Aparelhos Auditivo PT Undo 'Streaming platforms have made this access so fluid. Earlier, this kind of reach was unimaginable. Now, your song can drop at midnight and be vibed to in Brazil by morning.' In between her singles, Aastha is also prepping for the release of an EP. Ask her if it will be a treat for party animals, and she laughs, 'A lot of people think I'm just about party music. But this EP will prove I am way more and beyond party tracks too. It's deeply personal, not about the crowd but about the craft and for the audience who appreciate that kind of music. Every song has its own audience, I think. I'm enjoying doing the non-film music. '
