With the NFL Draft and initial waves of free agency behind us, we can begin to break down the roster.
The Eagles kick off OTAS in ten days, so now is a good time to predict the depth chart before position battles get underway. Today, we will start with the quarterback.
QB1, Jalen Hurts
Hurts is entering his sixth season with Philadelphia, fresh off winning a championship and taking home Super Bowl MVP. Last season, he set career-highs in completion percentage (68.7) and passer rating (103.7) while continuing to be dynamic with his legs. Hurts has a 46-20 record as a starter, winning 70% of his games despite having a new playcaller every season.
You can rank NFL quarterbacks however you choose, but Hurts must be included when discussing the top-five names.
QB2, Tanner McKee
The Eagles traded last year's backup, Kenny Pickett, to the Cleveland Browns in March, effectively making Tanner McKee the QB2. McKee should've been the backup last year, but Philadelphia opted for experience, and Pickett delivered when Hurts got injured late in the season.
The former sixth-round pick out of Stanford has impressed when given the opportunity, so much so that teams inquired about his availability this offseason. He went 3/4 passing for 54 yards and two touchdowns in relief duty vs. Dallas, becoming the first player in the NFL Draft era to have multiple TD passes in his NFL debut while attempting five or fewer passes. McKee threw for 269 yards and two more scores the following week in his first career start against the Giants.
Although the NFL is moving away from traditional pocket passers, McKee's poise and accuracy make him a promising player who can win games when needed.
GO BACK TO AJ BROWN.
Great throw by Tanner McKee.

QB3, Kyle McCord
Eagles GM Howie Roseman typically favors his draft picks over reclamation projects. In exchange for Kenny Pickett, Philadelphia received QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson to potentially battle for the third QB spot. The Eagles also selected Syracuse QB Kyle McCord in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
After one year as a starter at Ohio State, McCord led the FBS with an ACC-record 4,779 passing yards. He grew up in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and idolized Donovan McNabb, often watching his games at Lincoln Financial Field.
While Thompson wasn't drafted into an ideal situation, he's thrown ten interceptions to just one touchdown in his career. DTR's athleticism may be a better fit stylistically, but McCord is more talented.
Practice Squad: Dorian Thompson-Robinson

Browns CB Martin Emerson Jr. suffers achilles injury in training camp
The Cleveland Browns have suffered a significant blow to their defense, potentially losing starting cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. for the season. The former third round pick and standout over the first two seasons of his career suffered an achilles injury in Tuesday's practice and had to be carted off the practice field. It was described as a non-contact injury as the Browns were not in pads for Tuesday's practice. Without speculating too much until results come in from testing, but these are rarely easy injuries to bounce back from quickly. Emerson is coming off a down 2024 season, looking for a bounce-back year in the Cleveland secondary. To make matters worse, Emerson is in a contract year too, looking to earn his worth with the Browns long-term. Now he will have to enter free agency on the heels of a likely significant injury. The Browns will now likely have to ask Greg Newsome II, who plays outside cornerback on base downs before kicking inside to the slot in nickel looks, to play outside full-time. Newsome II is also in a contract year with the Browns and has the opportunity to return to the type of player we saw from him early in his career. And if he does, he will be in line for a good payday. This means Cameron Mitchell or 2024 seventh round pick Myles Harden will be allowed to slide into the nickel cornerback position this season. The Browns also signed former Miami Dolphins' nickel Nik Needham this offseason, and he'll likely get looks inside as well throughout training camp. Regardless, this is a huge loss for the Browns if Emerson is sidelined for the entirety of the 2025 season. Browns QB Shedeur Sanders continues to quietly impress in training camp
Seven days of Cleveland Browns training camp are officially in the books. The headlines have centered around Martin Emerson's injury, Myles Garrett's dominance, and the four-man quarterback competition. Unsurprisingly, Shedeur Sanders has been the talk of the town, making a strong early impression. Throughout his first week of NFL training camp, Sanders has completed 70% of his passes in team drills, with five touchdowns and no interceptions, according to BetMGM. These stats should be taken with a grain of salt, as he is currently facing the second and third-team defenses. Still, having zero turnovers in his initial opportunities has made a positive impact on his reputation in Berea. Shedeur Sanders has consistently made the most of every opportunity to reinforce his image as a hard-working, dedicated athlete. He's been seen on social media putting in extra reps after practice and arriving early—often before his teammates. Off the field, Sanders has built strong connections with both the community and his teammates by participating in charity events and taking time to engage with fans in Berea after practices. The 'Sanders Circus' that many fans thought would enter Cleveland has been anything but that. The Browns will continue to challenge Sanders as the regular season approaches. He took his first reps against the Browns' first-team defense on Wednesday and is expected to earn more opportunities if he continues to progress. The real test for Sanders is likely to come during the Browns' joint practice with the Carolina Panthers on Friday, August 8th, where he will have his first taste of opposing NFL competition. Browns QB Shedeur Sanders gets zero first-team reps due to arm soreness
Even with quarterback Kenny Pickett sidelined with a hamstring injury, the Cleveland Browns did not give Shedeur Sanders a single first-team rep in Saturday's practice. It turns out that was for good reason, however. Sanders did not throw a football outside of warmups in Saturday's training camp session as the team held him out with general arm soreness. This means that Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel were the only two quarterbacks taking reps in the team's scrimmage portions of practice, while Sanders did participate in the run game drills and other non-throwing activities. The rep count and camp stats have been a popular thing to do in training camp, although context is lacking with those. In this regard, there is no playing favorites or withholding of reps from Sanders. In fact, head coach Kevin Stefanski has been high on what Sanders has done in practice to continue to win over the coaching staff. Sanders will have his first real opportunity to do that this coming week as he is likely to get all of the second half snaps against the Carolina Panthers in Cleveland's first preseason game. If Sanders wants to prove to the staff that he deserves first-team reps, doing it live against second and third teamers needs to be automatic. There are still three weeks of training camp left for the Browns to sort through their quarterback situation. Can Sanders prove he deserves more work with the first-team unit?
