Eagles' Jalen Hurts Edges Out Patrick Mahomes in Key QB Metric
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Since his days in college, what has always made Jalen Hurts such an interesting QB prospect is his ability to attack defenses on the ground and in the air. His dynamic skill set has allowed him to thrive in the NFL, emerging as one of the league's top talents at the position. In his first four seasons as a full-time starter, Hurts has led the Eagles to the Super Bowl twice and won once. He nearly added an MVP award to his list of accolades during this stretch as well, finishing second back in 2022. While some might not be a fan of his methods, there is no denying Hurts' abilities to lead Philadelphia's offense. When his numbers are put up against his counterparts across the league, Hurts very well looks like an elite QB. Earlier this week, the people at PFF put out a stat of the quarterbacks with the most passing and rushing touchdowns since 2022. The Eagles star finds himself in second place with 105, trailing only reigning league MVP Josh Allen. Among the notable names Hurts is just ahead of are Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow. In each of the last four seasons, he's racked up double-digit passing and rushing touchdowns. The famous "Tush Push" is a major factor in this, as it is Philly's go-to when they get to the goal line. Last season, Hurts was almost neck-and-neck when it came to his scores, notching 18 touchdowns in the air and 14 on the ground. Hurts' passing touchdowns took a slight dip in 2024, but big personnel changes played a role in this. With the addition of Saquon Barkley in free agency, the Eagles had an elite talent in the backfield. This led to them embracing the run game more, resulting in the ex-Giants running back nearly making history in the regular season. The Eagles have arguably one of the best wide receiver duos in the league, and Barkley is poised to build off his strong first season in Philly. Armed with all these weapons, Hurts is tasked with keeping everyone involved as the Eagles look to repeat as champions. For more Philadelphia Eagles and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

A pair of Eagles legends land on an elite list a quarter century in the making
The following statement has been previously written on this platform. Based on the discussion, it bears repeating. The NFL Draft is a crap shoot. The Philadelphia Eagles drafted two offensive linemen and seven players before taking Jason Kelce with the 191st selection. One of those players was a 26-year-old fireman. Another was a kicker. Jason was a sixth-rounder. Think about that. How might things have turned out had everyone known then what they know now? Jalen Hurts' selection sparked controversy at the time. Everyone knew he had talent. Few could explain why Philadelphia made him a second-round selection, especially seeing as how they had given a boatload of cash to Carson Wentz. Those who objected weren't ready to acknowledge that Philadelphia's leadership was exemplary, and they were wrong. Fast forward to the present. Hurts and Kelce are two of the best players this organization has ever seen. And, they recently earned mentions on a list of some very special NFL stars. Jalen Hurts and Jason Kelce break through on a once-in-a-generation list How about a hand for two of the most beloved (and talented) Eagles ever? Two Super Bowl champions who have more than earned their wings. Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon pieced together his list ranking the Top 25 NFL Draft picks from the first quarter of the 21st century. Hurts landed at 14. Gagnon stated the following about Hurts: "Anytime you can land a bona fide franchise quarterback without using a top-50 pick, you're winning big. That's what Hurts has done in helping the Eagles get to two Super Bowls in four seasons as a starter, winning MVP in the last one." The take on Kelce was equally satisfying. The G.O.A.T. lands at 11: "Taken three rounds later than his younger brother two years earlier, Jason was a stalwart six-time first-team All-Pro for the usually competitive Eagles." Jason and Jalen are shoo-ins for the Eagles Hall of Fame. Jason will also be enshrined in Canton, Ohio, at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Might Jalen join him? It's certainly possible. His career has certainly gotten off to a fantastic start. After saying all that, there's only one question remaining. How in the heck was Lane Johnson left off of this list?

5 biggest things that will go right in the NFL in 2025: QBs aplenty
As is often the case with the NFL, there's a lot, including the league doing what it does best: make a lot of money. 5. Quarterbacking No, we're not in the stratospheric time of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. Those two were so historic, they form their own era. So, it's not that big, but this moment in NFL quarterback time is still really impressive. The depth of the great players at the position is near the best we've ever seen, if not at the tippy of that top. Start with Patrick Mahomes. Go to Lamar Jackson. Then Josh Allen. Throw in Joe Burrow. Look at those names. That first one will go into the Hall of Fame. The next one is well on his way. The other two aren't far behind. We haven't even talked about Jalen Hurts yet. There's Jayden Daniels from Washington and watch out for nuclear growth from Denver's Bo Nix. And I have shown massive disrespect to players like Jared Goff and Matthew Stafford by mentioning them so low. But you get the point. We saw some great quarterback play last year and could see even better in 2025. 4. Ratings There was a small dip in the ratings last season but who are we kidding. The NFL remains the biggest, baddest monster on the television block. It will likely be that way for years, if not decades. We are all NFL addicts. 3. The Eagles I haven't felt this confident (barring injury) about a team's chances of repeating as Super Bowl champions (barring injury) since Jimmy Johnson's Dallas Cowboys won their first one. So (barring injury) I love the Eagles' chances. Why? The main reason is that Hurts is a vastly underrated player. Not just quarterback. Player. Because Hurts has such a low-key demeanor (and many in the media demand their quarterbacks to be boisterous) he gets shorted. Also, the "tush push" is returning. It will still be unstoppable, maybe like the Eagles. 2. Sean Payton This will sound crazy (not the first time) but it wouldn't stun me if the Broncos made a serious Super Bowl run in 2025. Payton has his Drew Brees in Nix and when Payton has that, he is extremely formidable. Told you this was crazy (not the second time, either). But the Broncos have many of the elements to make such a push. Most of all, they have Payton. 1. The 18-game season Wait, there is no 18-game season in 2025, you goober. No, but there's a steady march to one, and this season will further push the league towards that goal. This season will again see tons of ratings and good play on the field. We'll see it all and the desire for the NF$ to make even more cash will grow. The best way for the league to do that is go to 18 games. So that talk will continue.
