Disney fans creeped out to learn where they've heard Lilo's voice before

Daily Mirror06-06-2025

A Lilo & Stitch voice star went on to appear in an iconic horror film, with the two films releasing in the same year and surprising fans of the much-loved family-friendly animated film
Fans of the hit animated Disney film Lilo & Stitch are just realising one of its stars featured in a horror classic. The animated classic has just been remade by the studio into a live action feature film.
Lilo & Stitch, first released in 2002, follows an alien called Stitch – who tries to impersonate a dog while in the care of Lilo. The voice of Lilo, Daveigh Chase, has stunned audiences though as they realise where they may have seen the star before. While neither Chase or Stitch voice actor Chris Sanders returned for the live action version of the film, some may recognise Lilo's voice star.

Fans of the r/TodayILearned subreddit shared the roles Chase had also been cast in, including a horror classic and a film which catapulted actor Jake Gyllenhaal to fame.

The user wrote: "Daveigh Chase, who was the voice of Lilo in Lilo & Stich, also played Samara, the creepy girl in The Ring."
Fans were stunned to make the connection between the horror classic and the family-friendly animated film. One user joked: "One minute you're making friends with aliens, next minute you're crawling out of TVs. Iconic."
Another user in a separate thread sharing the same information added: "The actress which interpreted the little sister of Donnie Darko (Daveigh Chase) was actually the same actress (grown-up) on the movie S.Darko."
The Ring, a horror film where people who view a videotape are killed by a monster crawling out of their TV screens, received a sequel in 2017 which marks Chase's final on-screen appearance.
Though her feature in the film is just archival footage, it marks her most recent role to date. She also starred in independent horror film Wild in Blue.

Chase has not appeared in anything since, though also featured in the English dub of Studio Ghibli classic, Spirited Away, as well as deleted scenes of Steven Spielberg's A.I. Artificial Intelligence.
Lilo & Stitch and The Ring released in 2002, with the family-friendly comedy about a space monster pretending to be a dog quite the contrast to a film where Chase portrays a ghoul trapped inside a television.
Fans of Lilo & Stitch have since found her work in The Ring to be quite chilling. One wrote: "I knew there was a reason Lilo creeped me out. The Ring was the only movie to EVER give me nightmares."
Another added: "I have to thank her for giving me those sleepless nights when I was young." A third wrote: "Should have been titled: TIL Donnie Darko's kid sister was the voice of Lilo & Stitch!"
Chase also featured in the Donnie Darko sequel, S. Darko, which viewers are keen to forget. One wrote: "Wait a second, Donnie Darko had a sequel?" Another replied: "A s***y sequel, yeah."

Dylan Adler brings unhinged musical vomedy to the Fringe

Dylan Adler brings his unique blend of musical comedy and personal storytelling to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August with Haus of Dy-lan, performing at the Pleasance Courtyard's Beside space from 30 July to 24 August (not 11th) at 7.30pm. Making his Edinburgh debut, Adler offers an hour of high-energy stand-up, original songs and unfiltered anecdotes drawn from his life as a gay, Japanese-Jewish performer growing up in San Francisco. His show is a whirlwind of piano, punchlines, and personal revelations – with the occasional bout of acrobatics thrown in for good measure. Adler, a classically trained pianist turned 'unhinged gay musical comic,' dives headfirst into his own life for comic material. Expect songs, sweat, and sincerity as he unpacks growing up as an identical gay twin, navigating racial identity ('double JAP,' as he puts it), and the very real chaos of therapy. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'Think theatre kid meets trauma dump – with jazz hands,' Adler jokes. Dylan Adler The show touches on everything from playground bullying (in two languages, no less) to his grandfather's stint training as a kamikaze pilot during WWII – a figure he says he feels connected to 'whenever I feel mentally ill or spiteful of the USA.' Adler's comedy doesn't shy away from the dark stuff – he confronts past sexual trauma, failed relationships and the bizarre mundanity of adult life ('stealing your therapist's toilet paper') with disarming honesty and blistering wit. Whether riffing on heteronormative habits in a gay relationship or screaming at his therapist in song, Adler masterfully blends sharp punchlines with theatrical flair. Already a familiar face stateside, Adler has written and performed for The Late Late Show with James Corden and appeared twice on After Midnight alongside comedy heavyweights Margaret Cho and Atsuko Okatsuka. He also starred in Chelsea Peretti's First Time Female Director and lent his voice to a supervillain role on Disney's Hamster and Gretel. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad No stranger to the stage, Adler has opened for Atsuko Okatsuka on her US and European tours, including stops at London's Eventim Apollo and Glasgow's O2 Academy. His previous shows have earned critical acclaim – his 2022 collaboration Rape Victims Are Horny Too with Kelly Bachman was ranked #2 in Paste Magazine's Best Comedy Albums of the Year, and last year's Haus of Dy-lan wowed audiences at Netflix Is A Joke Festival. Also a gifted composer, Adler co-wrote Good Morning New York, which played Off-Broadway, and received the Alan Menken Scholarship for emerging musical theatre talent. With an hour packed with camp, catharsis and chaos, Haus of Dy-lan promises to be one of the more distinctive and daring debuts at this year's Fringe.

Cities like Glasgow and Liverpool ranking so highly also suggests that the Disney fandom is thriving well beyond the capital, and even some smaller areas like Dundee and Warrington. From our internal data, we're seeing that Disney parks are no longer viewed just as family destinations. Increasingly, they appeal to adults who are eager to experience the nostalgia, themed dining, and seasonal events that make Disney parks unique. This shift has a direct impact on how we approach marketing and packaging trips for a grown-up audience and we welcome any Disney adults who want to experience the magic of Disney with us.'

Disney holds ‘crisis talks' after Jared Leto sexual misconduct report threatens to derail release of movie Tron: Ares

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) DISNEY has found itself scrambling to organize the promotion of Jared Leto's new movie amid historic claims of sexual impropriety, an insider has exclusively told The U.S. Sun. Leto, 53, has been accused by nine women, including some who were teenagers at the time. Recalling the alleged experience at his house, she said, "I thought maybe this was just what adult men do." Leto's reps denied any wrongdoing, saying, "Their communications contain nothing sexual or inappropriate and Ms La Rue later applied to work as his personal assistant." La Rue denied she ever applied for the job, according to AirMail. He is not being sued or charged with any crime, but the report has thrown a wrench in the works when it comes to promoting his latest films. The Oscar-winning actor has two big-budget films being released in the coming months at Disney and Amazon MGM, Tron: Ares and Masters of the Universe. Ahead of Tron's release in October, Disney is scheduled to host a panel at San Diego ComicCon at the end of July, The Wrap reported, although it's not known whether or not Leto will appear on it. "Jared wants it to be business as usual ahead of the release of his new movie, but Disney is nervous about the promotion of Tron," an insider exclusively told The U.S. Sun. "The accusations of sexual misconduct couldn't have come at a worse time. "The marketing team has been having crisis meetings ahead of its theatrical release in October. Jared Leto shows off bold change to his appearance at MTV VMAs - as fans think he looks just like Kanye West's ex "Disney is planning to host a panel at San Diego ComicCon to push Tron: Ares and Jared has made it known that he's happy to be on it. "He doesn't want to hide away having denied the allegations and not only is he the lead, he's one of the producers. "Talks are still ongoing about how to handle the situation, but he will likely take part in some capacity and hold his head high. "He is not being sued civilly and he isn't being charged with a crime, if he were I think things would be a lot different." Disney may still have to cut its losses on this one." An insider told The U.S. Sun Leto took to the stage to speak about Tron: Ares during CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas on April 3, 2025, just two months before the report was published by AirMail. One woman speaking to the outlet claimed his behavior "has been an open secret for a long time." The U.S. Sun's source added, "Disney may still have to cut its losses on this one but will still do what it can to promote the movie and create a buzz." Neither Disney nor a representative for Leto responded to a request for comment. San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 24 to 27. Tron is scheduled to be released in theaters on October 10. The movie also Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, Cameron Monaghan, and Jeff Bridges. And although a big-budget movie usually comes with TV and print interview slots for its lead star and a social media push, there has been no marketing since the initial trailer was released in April. Leto is also set to appear in Masters of the Universe, which is scheduled for release in June 2026, although he is not the lead character in the live-action feature film. The actor has been cast as Skeletor, the primary antagonist to Nicholas Galitzine's He-Man, according to reports. Leto is also the frontman of the rock band Thirty Seconds To Mars, which is on tour until the end of the summer. He has played major roles in several movies, including The Joker in Suicide Squad, and won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Dallas Buyers Club. 4 Fans got to see the trailer for Tron: Ares, which was screened at The Walt Disney Studios presentation during CinemaCon in Las Vegas Credit: Getty
