Awareness programmes mark ‘World No Tobacco Day'
People addicted to smoking and chewing tobacco products are vulnerable to cancer, lung infection and other respiratory diseases, Mr. Lakshmisha said and asked the patients to undergo counselling.
The Collector, along with District Revenue Officer M. Lakshmi Narasimham, District Medical and Health Officer Dr. M. Suhasini and NGO representatives released posters on 'World No Tobacco Day' on Saturday.
The Collector administered a pledge against using tobacco to participants and asked the youth to enlighten the people on the ill-effects of using tobacco products.
The government is conducting awareness programmes against smoking and chewing gutkha and other tobacco products in colleges, he said.
Signature campaign
At a separate programme, the members of Bezawada Bar Association (BBA), in association with an NGO, Nava Jeevan Bala Bhavan, organised a signature campaign against the use of tobacco at the court complex, said BBA president A.K. Basha.

Eluru: District collector K Vetriselvi said that regular medical check-ups should be conducted on the health condition of pregnant women, and health personnel should work to prevent maternal and infant deaths by informing mothers about the importance of nutrition, hospital deliveries, newborn care, and complementary feeding. Death due to negligence? Park faces probe as dad blames lack of infra
1 2 Kolkata: A case of death due to negligence was initiated against Nicco Park authorities following a complaint lodged by the father of the 18-year-old BBA student who died during an outing with friends at the water park on Wednesday. While the preliminary post-mortem report hinted at a possible cardiac arrest and haematoma at the back of the head, the police said they had started a full-fledged probe, collected all CCTV footage, and recorded statements from the boy's friends and on-duty staffers of the amusement park. "We have started a case under BNS section 106 (1) and have been questioning park officials and those who were in charge of giving first aid. We have also collected statements from the youth's friends and have been assessing all CCTV footage of the events leading to the mishap," said an officer of Bidhannagar Commissionerate. On Wednesday, Maniktala resident Rahul Das went to the park with seven others to celebrate a friend's birthday. Around 1:05 pm Das suddenly fell ill. His friends offered CPR before lifeguards took him to the first-aid section. The nurse at the Nicco Park medical room examined him and said his pulse was low. Das was put in a park ambulance and taken to the nearest hospital, where doctors declared him dead. I demand a full investigation into how and under what circumstances he lost his life. I saw on television an interview of a Nicco Park official who admitted that Rahul was first taken to a nurse, who allegedly declared him dead. Why was no attempt made to provide medical help?" asked the father. He added that there was an injury on Rahul's toe, as well as another visible mark on his arm or hand, and demanded a thorough examination of those injuries. "His friends kept saying that the Nicco Park authorities did not provide any help. We strongly believe Rahul's death was not natural," he added. The father has urged the police to examine CCTV footage and question all staff members who were on duty. He has questioned the lack of basic medical infrastructure, such as the absence of a duty doctor or oxygen support, in a high-footfall amusement facility. Das has also appealed for the temporary closure of the water park section of Nicco Park until the cause of death is clearly established and safety protocols are reviewed. Nicco Park MD Rajesh Raisinghani defended the medical unit at the facility, claiming one doctor and three nurses have been looking after the medical unit for two decades. "Although the doctor had a day off on Wednesday, there were two qualified nurses who attended the boy immediately after the lifeguards took him to the medical room in less than three minutes. The ambulance was also equipped with oxygen. We feel sorry for the family's loss and are cooperating with the police," said Raisinghani.

Students told to avail facilities provided in schools
Vijayawada: NTR district collector Dr G Lakshmisha said the state government has conducted the Mega Parents-Teachers meet to bring together parents, teachers and the students for the comprehensive development of the children. He said the government is providing facilities in the government schools on par with the private schools and students should take full advantage of these resources to achieve great heights in life. He was the chief guest at the Mega Parents and Teachers Meet 2.0 held at Zilla Parishad Girls High School in Kondapalli of Ibrahimpatnam mandal, along with local public representatives and officials on Thursday. He explained that with the aim of providing a bright future for children, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Education Minister Nara Lokesh have launched several innovative initiatives. Collector stated that approximately 3 lakh students and their parents participated enthusiastically across 1,453 schools in the district the Mega PTM 2.0. He said for the first time, PTMs are being conducted in private institutions also. He said these meetings allow for mutual exchange of information regarding academic standards, students' behaviour at home, and their interests. Dr Lakshmisha urged the students to make the best use of government-provided resources such as quality education, infrastructure, uniforms, textbooks, and nutritious mid-day meals and suggested to set goals like to become doctors, engineers, scientists, IAS or IPS officers and work with sincerity to achieve them. Schools, he said, are like temples where the foundation for children's dreams and aspirations is laid. The collector also noted that progress reports once seen only in private schools are now available in government schools in the form of Holistic Progress Cards due to reforms introduced in education. Collector Lakshmisha stressed the importance of cyber awareness from a young age to prevent falling victim to cybercrimes and frauds by criminals. With proper precautions, students can stay safe online. He also highlighted how substance abuse can destroy lives and families. Posters with the message 'Say No to Drugs, Bro' were released during the meeting. The principal presented the school's progress report, and the children gave impressive cultural performances. Collector Lakshmisha also enthusiastically participated in a Kolatam (traditional folk dance) performance and later shared a meal with students and parents. He took photos at the selfie stand and planted a sapling in the school premises. NTR DEO YV Subbarao, Kondapalli Municipal Chairman Chennuboyina Chittibabu, Municipal Commissioner Ramya Keerthana, Education Committee Chairperson Sheikh Bajibi, Headmistress B Hemalatha, Eagle Cell SI M Veeranjaneya, local public representatives, and others were present. On the other hand, thousands of parents enthusiastically participated in the MPT meeting held across the government and private schools across the NTR district. MLAs, local people's representatives, government officials and NGOs participated in the meetings and gave valuable suggestions to the students and parents.
