has endorsed England as the ideal venue for the World Test Championship finals while suggesting that the prestigious event could potentially move to larger stadiums in India and Australia in the future once it gains more global popularity.
The statement comes as England continues to host WTC finals, with three successive championships being played across different stadiums in the country over the past six years.
The inaugural World Test Championship final was hosted at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, featuring India and New Zealand. The subsequent final saw Australia emerge victorious against India at the Oval, claiming the WTC championship title from the Kiwis.

The most recent WTC final took place at Lord's Cricket Ground in London, where South Africa secured victory against Australia. This triumph marked the end of South Africa's 27-year drought for an ICC trophy under Temba Bavuma's leadership.
"I think to start off initially, it's good if it's here (Lord's) actually. Once it gets the popularity and eyebrows it deserves, then it can start shifting. But I think the MCG can be a great place for a World Test Championship Final.

Ahmedabad can be a great place for the WTC Final. Basically, the places where you can draw a crowd. Because Lord's is not a 100,000-seater stadium. So, irrespective of which team is playing, you know you will get a good crowd," Shastri expressed during a Wisden Cricket podcast.
India's Day 2 at the Nets in Edgbaston | IND vs ENG Test Series
The discussion about venue selection has gained prominence as England is expected to continue hosting the WTC finals for the next two cycles. According to the International Cricket Council's Future Tours Program, the 2027 WTC Final is scheduled to be held at Lord's, with subsequent finals planned for 2029 and 2031.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India's recent bid to host the 2027 WTC final was unsuccessful. The decision favored England due to its consistent support for neutral Test matches.
London venues have demonstrated their ability to attract neutral cricket enthusiasts who appreciate the longest format of the game. However, Shastri's suggestion points to the potential of hosting future championships at larger venues like the Narendra Modi Stadium in India and the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.

These proposed alternative venues offer significantly larger seating capacities compared to traditional English cricket grounds. This capacity difference could potentially accommodate more spectators once the World Test Championship establishes a stronger following among global cricket audiences.
The progression of WTC final venues reflects the evolving nature of Test cricket's premier championship event.
While maintaining its current base in England, the tournament shows potential for geographical expansion as it continues to develop its global appeal and fan following.
The ongoing discussion about venue selection highlights the balance between tradition and growth in Test cricket's flagship event. England's role as the current host nation has established a foundation for the championship, while future possibilities remain open for expansion to other major cricket venues worldwide.

India's T20 World Cup 2024 Triumph: A year of glory
In Barbados, India ended an 11-year-long ICC Trophy drought, beating South Africa by seven runs to capture the ICC T20 World Cup title for the second time on June 29 last year. This was Rohit Sharma's second ICC T20 WC title and his first ICC title as a captain, after the heartbreak of losing to Australia in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at home following a ten-match win streak. India also celebrated the farewell of two giants of Indian cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, from the T20 format, as they walked away with their heads held high. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was the star with the bat for India in the tournament. He slammed 257 runs in eight innings, including three fifties, at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of over 155. He was also the second-highest run scorer in the tournament. On the other hand, in bowling, Indian seamer Arshdeep Singh grabbed the most number of wickets for India in the T20 World Cup. He took 17 wickets in eight innings at an average of 12.64 and an economy rate of under 8. He was the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament. India had elected to bat first, but was reduced to 34/3. However, it was another clutch effort from Virat Kohli, who had a relatively dull tournament up to that point, that calmed everyone down. Three boundaries within the first few balls he faced was an ominous sign that Team India's biggest match-winner in past T20 WCs was going to be at his best. He also had a fine 72-run stand with Axar Patel, who played a counter-attacking 47 in 31 balls, with a four and four sixes. Virat clobbered 76 in 59 balls, with six fours and two sixes. India reached a fighting 176/7 in their 20 overs. The match hung in balance with a partnership of 58 runs between Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs and a 15th over onslaught on Axar by Klaasen, during which he hit 24 runs, left the game in favour of the Proteas, who needed 30 in the final 30 in the 16th over, Hardik Pandya removed Klaasen for a well-made 52 in 27 balls, which had two fours and five sixes. From then on, India continued to apply pressure, with the match-sealing moment being Suryakumar Yadav's stunning catch, which saw him go out of the boundary ropes before pulling the delivery back within the ropes and catching it to dismiss a dangerous David Miller in the final was reduced to 169/8, despite their best efforts.

Dana White criticizes Ilia Topuria vs. Paddy Pimblett UFC 317 faceoff: 'should've never happened'
Unauthorized UFC 317 faceoff sparks backlash from Dana White UFC 317 delivered notable performances and crowd-pleasing moments, but an unsanctioned post-fight faceoff drew criticism from UFC President Dana White. Following his first-round knockout win in the main event, Ilia Topuria shared a tense faceoff and brief physical exchange with lightweight contender Paddy Pimblett inside the Octagon at T-Mobile Arena. White, speaking at the post-fight press conference, said he had already left his cageside position when the confrontation took place and disapproved of the incident. "That should've never happened. Let's start there. I was already back in my room, or that would've never happened." Topuria's win marked his second UFC title across two weight classes, elevating his profile in the promotion's lightweight division. However, White underscored that such celebratory moments should be managed with greater care. Live Events "My thing with Topuria is his wife and kid are in the octagon. That's not the fight. It's just, yeah. It shouldn't happen. That's not really what we do. I don't really give a sh*t if it's fun to watch or not. That shouldn't have happened. Plus, he wins a second title in a higher division. It was a bad call by whoever let him in there." Approved faceoff between Joshua Van and Alexandre Pantoja The unauthorized faceoff stood in contrast to a sanctioned one earlier in the evening. After Alexandre Pantoja defended his flyweight title against Kai Kara-France in the co-main event, No. 1 contender Joshua Van entered the cage for a planned faceoff. White clarified the distinction, noting that Van's appearance followed his announcement that the winner of the bout would earn a future title shot. Also read: Ilia Topuria defeats Charles Oliveira by first-round knockout at UFC 317 main event "(Van) is the No. 1 contender, and I just said the winner of that fight will get a title shot, so obviously the fans wanted it, too," White said. The juxtaposition of these two moments raised questions about the UFC's internal protocols during high-profile events, particularly when family members are present in the Octagon. UFC lightweight division title picture remains unclear Despite the confrontation, White did not confirm whether Paddy Pimblett (23-3 MMA, 7-0 UFC) would face Ilia Topuria (17-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) next. The lightweight division remains competitive, with top contenders Arman Tsarukyan (22-3 MMA, 9-2 UFC) and Justin Gaethje (26-5 MMA, 9-5 UFC) actively campaigning for title shots. Tsarukyan served as a backup fighter for UFC 317's lightweight title bout, further complicating the path forward for potential challengers.
