Dell launches new AI innovations for enterprise & research

Dell has announced a range of advancements in enterprise AI infrastructure, solutions and services to support organisations seeking to adopt and scale artificial intelligence.
The company reported that 75% of organisations view AI as central to their strategy, but high costs and data security concerns remain significant obstacles. Dell aims to address these challenges by simplifying deployment, reducing expenses and enabling secure, scalable AI adoption through its expanded Dell AI Factory, enhanced infrastructure and an expanding partner ecosystem.
The Dell AI Factory, launched a year ago, has received more than 200 updates and now supports AI workloads at any scale with new infrastructure, software improvements and collaborations with partners such as NVIDIA, Meta and Google. The company states its approach to on-premises AI inference can be up to 62% more cost effective for large language models compared to public cloud options.
Among the notable product introductions is the Dell Pro Max Plus laptop, equipped with the Qualcomm AI 100 PC Inference Card, which the company states is the world's first mobile workstation to include an enterprise-grade discrete NPU. This platform is intended to provide rapid, secure on-device inferencing for large AI models, facilitating edge deployments outside traditional data centres. The Qualcomm AI 100 PC Inference Card offers 32 AI-cores and 64GB of memory to support engineers and scientists working with sizeable data models.
Addressing the energy demands of AI workloads, Dell introduced the PowerCool Enclosed Rear Door Heat Exchanger (eRDHx), designed to capture 100% of IT-generated heat and reduce cooling costs by up to 60% compared to current solutions. This innovation supports water temperatures between 32°C and 36°C and enables increased data centre density, allowing organisations to deploy up to 16% more racks of dense compute without raising power consumption, and provides advanced leak detection and unified management features.
For high performance computing and AI, Dell's PowerEdge XE9785 and XE9785L servers will support AMD Instinct MI350 series GPUs, promising up to 35 times greater inferencing performance. Both liquid- and air-cooled versions will be available to further reduce facility cooling costs.
In terms of data management, Dell's AI Data Platform now includes updates designed to improve access to structured and unstructured data, with Project Lightning, a parallel file system, reported to deliver up to two times greater throughput than alternatives. Enhancements to the Data Lakehouse further streamline AI workflows for use cases like recommendation engines and semantic search, and the introduction of Linear Pluggable Optics aims to lower power use and boost networking efficiency.
Dr Paul Calleja, Director of the Cambridge Open Zettascale Lab and Research Computing Services at the University of Cambridge, commented: "We're excited to work with Dell to support our cutting-edge AI initiatives, and we expect Project Lightning to be a critical storage technology for our AI innovations."
Dell has also broadened its partner ecosystem to include on-premises deployments with platforms such as Cohere North, Google Gemini, Glean's Work AI platform and Meta's Llama Stack, as well as joint solutions with Mistral AI. The company is providing enhancements to its AI platform with AMD and Intel technologies, including upgraded networking, software stack improvements, container support and integration with Intel Gaudi 3 AI accelerators.
Updates to the Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA include new PowerEdge servers supporting up to 192 NVIDIA Blackwell Ultra GPUs per standard configuration and up to 256 per Dell IR7000 rack with direct to chip liquid cooling. These advancements aim to simplify data centre integration, speed up rack-scale AI deployment and are reported to deliver up to four times faster large language model training compared to the previous generation.
The PowerEdge XE9712, featuring NVIDIA GB300 NVL72, targets efficiency at rack scale for training and is said to offer up to 50 times more inference output and five times improvement in throughput, with new PowerCool technology supporting power efficiency in high-demand environments. The company intends to support the NVIDIA Vera CPU and Vera Rubin platform in future server offerings.
In networking, Dell has extended its portfolio with new PowerSwitch and InfiniBand switches, deliver up to 800 Gbps of throughput, and are now supported by ProSupport and Deployment Services. Further software platform updates include direct availability of NVIDIA NIM, NeMo microservices and Blueprints, plus Red Hat OpenShift integration on the Dell AI Factory with NVIDIA.
To streamline AI operations, Dell has introduced Managed Services for the AI Factory with NVIDIA, providing 24/7 monitoring, reporting, upgrades and patching for the stack, supported by Dell's technical teams.

For Marc Watkins, a professor at the University of Mississippi who focuses on AI in teaching, 'we've already gone too far' to shield children from AI past a certain age. Yet some parents are still trying to remain gatekeepers to the technology. 'In my circle of friends and family, I'm the only one exploring AI with my child,' remarked Melissa Franklin, mother of a 7-year-old boy and a law student in Kentucky. 'I don't understand the technology behind AI,' she said, 'but I know it's inevitable, and I'd rather give my son a head start than leave him overwhelmed.' 'Benefits and risks' The path is all the more difficult for parents given the lack of scientific research on AI's effects on users. Several parents cite a study published in June by MIT, showing that brain activity and memory were more stimulated in individuals not using generative AI than in those who had access to it. 'I'm afraid it will become a shortcut,' explained a father-of-three who preferred to remain anonymous. 'After this MIT study, I want them to use it only to deepen their knowledge.' This caution shapes many parents' approaches. Tal prefers to wait before letting his sons use AI tools. Melissa Franklin only allows her son to use AI with her supervision to find information 'we can't find in a book, through Google, or on YouTube'. For her, children must be encouraged to 'think for themselves', with or without AI. But one father – a computer engineer with a 15-year-old – doesn't believe kids will learn AI skills from their parents anyway. 'That would be like claiming that kids learn how to use TikTok from their parents,' he said. It's usually 'the other way around'. Watkins, himself a father, says he is 'very concerned' about the new forms that generative AI is taking, but considers it necessary to read about the subject and 'have in-depth conversations about it with our children'. 'They're going to use artificial intelligence,' he said, 'so I want them to know the potential benefits and risks.' The chief executive of AI chip giant Nvidia, Jensen Huang, often speaks of AI as 'the greatest equalisation force that we have ever known', democratising learning and knowledge. But Watkins fears a different reality: 'Parents will view this as a technology that will be used if you can afford it, to get your kid ahead of everyone else'. The computer scientist father readily acknowledged this disparity, saying: 'My son has an advantage because he has two parents with PhDs in computer science'. Dell launches Pro Max laptops with AI features & 4K OLED

New Dell Pro Max high-performance laptops and audio solutions are now available, offering a range of features designed for power users, engineers, creators and AI developers. Pro Max Premium features The Dell Pro Max 14 and 16 Premium laptops are positioned as models balancing mobility, design and advanced functionality. The devices feature a modern aesthetic, and, according to Dell, have the smallest footprint of 14- and 16-inch mobile workstations on the market. The Premium 16-inch model includes what is described as the world's first 4K Tandem OLED display for a mobile workstation, certified with VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 1000. The display aims to bring improved content presentation, with greater clarity and colour depth for tasks such as creative project work and collaborative engineering. Dell states that their laptops are built to cater for the needs of highly demanding workflows without unacceptable sacrifices in portability or design. The Premium laptops use NVIDIA RTX PRO 3000 Blackwell laptop GPUs and up to 45W Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processors. Dell states that these new models provide a 19% and 23% boost in graphics performance over the previous generation for the 14- and 16-inch models respectively, based on internal testing. This is intended to allow smoother performance in tasks such as video editing and data analysis. Pro Max Plus for heavy workloads The Dell Pro Max Plus range, aimed at even greater performance, comes in 16- and 18-inch form factors. These laptops are targeted at users requiring additional screen real estate and processing power, such as those involved in AI modelling, complex simulations and large-scale data analysis. The models feature NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell GPUs, up to 55W Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX processors, and storage capacities up to 16TB. According to Dell, the new Pro Max 16 Plus and Pro Max 18 Plus models deliver graphics improvements of 53% and 44% respectively when compared to the previous generation. These results are based on benchmarking against earlier models, as referenced in Dell's internal testing reports. Advanced thermal management is another element highlighted in the Pro Max Plus series. Dell claims that their patented thermal technology allows for up to a 36% increase in total performance while keeping the devices cooler during resource-intensive tasks. CAMM2 memory support with modules of up to 256GB, due to become available this year, is designed to facilitate increasingly demanding AI and specialty workloads. Entry-level Pro Max options For users with lighter workloads or those new to the Pro Max range, the Dell Pro Max 14 and 16 offer performance and reliability at a more accessible entry point. Weighing from 3.95 pounds for the 14-inch model, these laptops prioritise portability while maintaining operational battery life - up to 18 hours on the 14-inch and 20 hours on the 16-inch, according to Dell's internal evaluation. Processors include AMD Ryzen AI for the first Copilot+ PCs in the Pro Max line, allowing devices to reach 50+ TOPS (trillions of operations per second) on the NPU, and access a set of exclusive AI-powered features. Options also include up to 45W Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processors and, in the upper configurations, NVIDIA RTX PRO 2000 Blackwell GPUs supporting 572 AI TOPS. Dell reports up to 36% and 33% performance improvements for the 14- and 16-inch variants, compared to their predecessors. The Pro Max 14 and 16 are positioned for users such as financial analysts and emerging creators who require dependable everyday performance. Security and sustainability The new Pro Max laptops incorporate security features for commercial use. Dell highlights that with AI workloads processed on-device rather than in the cloud, sensitive data remains local, potentially reducing exposure to external threats. Manageability tools enable IT departments to oversee devices in a fleet more easily. Sustainability is also addressed in the Pro Max range. Dell reports that the new laptops utilise recycled and bio-based materials, including magnesium, plastics, ocean-bound plastics, aluminium, and cobalt. Recycled content is integrated into various laptop components such as speaker housings, covers, palmrests, and batteries, with some models incorporating up to 98% recycled plastic in specific parts. The modular USB-C port and easy-access service doors in certain models are designed to enhance durability and facilitate repair and upgrades. Operating system and transition support All models in the new Pro Max lineup run on Windows 11, which Dell notes delivers enhanced security and a modern user experience, including productivity tools such as Copilot for Windows. These features are promoted as aiding users' transition ahead of Windows 10's end of support in October 2025. Dell's portfolio strategy includes addressing growing workload demands with new devices and serviceability features. As stated in the release, "If your current technology is starting to strain under new and growing demanding workloads, now is the moment to upgrade to Dell Pro Max."

Zoho unveils Zia LLM & agent marketplace with focus on privacy

Zoho has introduced its proprietary large language model, Zia LLM, alongside new AI infrastructure investments designed to strengthen its business-focused artificial intelligence offerings and data privacy protections. The suite of new tools includes the Zia LLM, over 25 prebuilt AI-powered agents available in an Agent Marketplace, the no-code Zia Agent Studio for custom agent building, and a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, providing third-party agents access to Zoho's extensive library of actions. These advancements are intended for both developers and end users, aiming to bring operational and financial efficiencies across a wide range of business needs and use cases. Focus on technology and privacy "Today's announcement emphasizes Zoho's longstanding aim to build foundational technology focused on protection of customer data, breadth and depth of capabilities, and value," said Mani Vembu, Chief Executive Officer at Zoho. "Because Zoho's AI initiatives are developed internally, we are able to provide customers with cutting-edge tool sets without compromising data privacy and organizational flexibility, democratizing the latest technology on a global scale." The Zia LLM was developed entirely in-house using NVIDIA's AI accelerated computing platform and has been trained for Zoho product-specific use cases such as structured data extraction, summarisation, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and code generation. The model is comprised of three parameter sizes - 1.3 billion, 2.6 billion, and 7 billion - each optimised for different business contexts and benchmarked against similar open-source models. Zoho says these models allow the platform to optimise performance according to user needs, balancing computational power with efficiency, and plans to continue evolving its right-sizing approach to AI model deployment. The Zia LLM will be rolled out across data centres in the United States, India, and Europe, initially being used to support internal Zoho applications and expected to become available for customer deployment in the coming months. Expansion in language and speech technology Alongside its language model, Zoho is launching proprietary Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) models capable of performing speech-to-text conversion in both English and Hindi. These models operate with low computational requirements without a reduction in accuracy and, according to Zoho, can deliver up to 75% better performance than comparable models in standard benchmark tests. Additional language support is expected to follow, particularly for languages predominantly spoken in Europe and India. While many large language model integrations are supported on the Zoho platform, including ChatGPT, Llama, and DeepSeek, the company emphasises that Zia LLM enables customers to maintain their data on Zoho's servers, thus retaining control over privacy and security. Agentic AI technology To promote adoption of agentic AI, Zoho has made available a range of AI agents embedded within its core products. These agents are tailored to support various common organisational functions such as sales, customer service, and account management. The newly updated Ask Zia conversational assistant now features business intelligence skills suitable for data engineers, analysts, and data scientists, allowing them to build data pipelines, create analytical reports, and initiate machine learning processes within an interactive environment. A new Customer Service Agent has also been launched, capable of processing and contextualising customer requests, providing direct responses, or escalating queries to human staff as needed. Zia Agent Studio and Marketplace The Zia Agent Studio offers a fully prompt-based, optional low-code environment for building and deploying AI agents, giving users access to more than 700 predefined actions spanning the Zoho app ecosystem. Agents can be set for autonomous operation, triggered by user action, or integrated into customer communications. When deployed, these agents function as digital employees, adhering to existing organisational access permissions and allowing administrators to audit behaviour, performance, and impact. Zoho's Agent Marketplace, now part of its existing marketplace offering over 2,500 extensions, allows for rapid deployment of prebuilt and third-party AI agents. A selection of prebuilt agents is available, including: Revenue Growth Specialist, identifying opportunities for customer upsell and cross-sell Deal Analyser, which provides insights such as win probability and proposed follow-up actions for sales teams Candidate Screener, ranking job applicants based on skills and suitability Zoho has committed to regularly adding more prebuilt agents to address broader business needs and enabling ecosystem partners, independent software vendors, and developers to build and host additional agents. MCP interoperability and future roadmap The deployment of the Model Context Protocol server will permit any MCP client to access data and actions from a growing collection of Zoho applications within the customer's existing permission framework. Using Zoho Flow, certain third-party tools can also be accessed, and Zoho Analytics now includes support for a local MCP server. Expanded application support is planned throughout the year. Looking forward, Zoho intends to scale the Zia LLM's parameter sizes and extend speech-to-text capabilities to more languages. Plans also include the future release of a reasoning language model, further enhancements to Ask Zia's skills for finance and support teams, and the addition of protocol support for agent intercommunication within and beyond Zoho's platform. Zoho remains focused on balancing the ability to provide practical AI support for business needs with privacy requirements, stating that its models are not trained on consumer data and that no customer information is retained. The company reiterates its privacy pledge to customers, with complete oversight of data held in its own operated data centres.
