ECoS pushes to Increase Energy Generation Capacity

Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid, accompanied by delegations from ECoS and Sabah Electricity, visited several existing power stations and energy development project sites located at the West Coast of Sabah. Kota Kinabalu: The Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) has conducted comprehensive monitoring and evaluation of key energy projects in Sabah, aligning with the commission's efforts to strengthen the electricity supply system in Sabah. Datuk Ir. Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid, accompanied by delegations from ECoS and Sabah Electricity, visited several existing power stations and energy development project sites located at the West Coast of Sabah. Locations visited included the SPR Energy Power Plant, Kimanis Power Plant, Sabah Oil & Gas Terminal (SOGT), Tenom Pangi Hydro Station, and two new project sites in Kimanis. The purpose of these visits was to assess project progress, ensure compliance with safety and technical standards, and evaluate the operational efficiency of existing power plants that play a crucial role in the stability of Sabah's electricity supply. 'This close monitoring is vital to ensure all projects are on schedule and can increase generation capacity. Both of these new projects will contribute 200MW of energy to the grid upon completion,' said Nasser. He also emphasized that these efforts are part of the Sabah State Government's commitment to address electricity supply issues and strengthen the state's energy sector holistically, in line with the goals outlined in the Sabah Energy Roadmap and Master Plan 2040 (SE-RAMP 2040).

SST revision does not justify hotel rate hikes: MoF

The ministry clarified that the SST revisions effective July 1 do not include any change in the service tax applied to hotel accommodation or food and beverages (F&B) served at hotels. Advertisement 'The SST revisions do not affect basic daily goods but may affect hotels indirectly through the expansion of service tax to cover rental on commercial properties and also sales tax on selected food items such as premium seafood and imported fruits. 'However, these indirect impacts are unlikely to translate to a 10 per cent to 15 per cent increase in costs faced by hotels,' MoF told Bernama when asked about a possible hike in hotel rates due to the extended SST. The ministry was responding to claims by hotels that they would need to raise room prices by 10 to 15 per cent following the revised tax structure. The MoF added that if hotels proceed to raise rates on the pretext of the SST, the government, through the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), will examine the matter to prevent unreasonable price increases. Sabah's trade tops RM100 billion for third straight year

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) reported Sabah's trade value at RM107.8 billion in 2024, with a 2.7 per cent year-on-year growth. Advertisement Exports declined by 2.3 per cent to RM61.3 billion, while imports rose 10.2 per cent to RM46.4 billion, resulting in a lower trade surplus of RM14.9 billion compared to 2023. Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the top export commodities were crude petroleum (RM21.3 billion), palm oil (RM17.3 billion), and liquefied natural gas (RM4.6 billion). Sabah launches utility corridor to fast-track infrastructure

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, in a speech delivered by Assistant Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir, said KUS would serve as a one-stop agency to fast-track utility work permits and consolidate the state's utility asset database.
