KMC to run public parks on rental basis
The general council meeting also approved the collection of tax from wedding halls except this in the cantonment areas, besides increasing the fee of pathology labs at KMC hospitals and imposing fine on car wash gangs that operate outside the commercial centres.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab chaired the general council session of KMC on Monday, accompanied by Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad and Municipal Commissioner Syed Mohammad Afzal Zaidi.
A total of 14 key resolutions were passed during the session, addressing both administrative reforms and matters of public interest.
A resolution was passed to pay tribute to the Pakistan Army for the successful Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos. The council approved the determination of the number of KMC committees.
Authority to issue trade licenses was delegated to Union Committees. A resolution was passed to resolve the land dispute between KMC and K-Electric regarding Railway Quarters. Fines were imposed on illegal car washing In front of commerical centres and plazas and unauthorized use of water from water board pipelines in nurseries. The imprest account limit for the Enterprise and Investment Promotion Department was increased.
Moreover charges for laboratory tests conducted at KMC hospitals were revised and increased. A plot in Orangi Township was split - one part allocated to Pakistan Post, and the other designated for auction or a public-private partnership.

The discussions have been described as 'frank,' and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has expressed hope that they could pave the way for renewed inspections of Iranian nuclear sites. The talks are part of broader efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, which was abandoned by the United States in 2018 under then-President Donald Trump. That accord had offered sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on Iran's nuclear activity. China and Russia remain signatories to the original agreement. A looming October 18 deadline could mark a turning point. Unless the 'snapback' mechanism is invoked by mid-September, all remaining UN sanctions on Iran will expire — potentially unfreezing its banking, defence and hydrocarbons sectors. Sindh CM announces 14-Day Independence celebrations
Listen to article Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced that this year's Independence Day celebrations will take place over 14 days, from August 1 to 14, under the theme Marka-e-Haq.' Speaking at a press conference in Karachi with Senior Ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon and Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, he said the extended celebrations demonstrate a unified effort by the federal and provincial governments to commemorate the national achievements of May. He said the decision was made in coordination with the federal government to reinforce the importance of national independence. August 14 would not be limited to a single day this year. The Chief Minister noted that Pakistan's armed forces gave a decisive response to the neighbouring country, and the events throughout August will recognize that. He added, 'Those who don't participate in these celebrations will be noticed by the people.' 'We have never accepted defeat. We will not cancel any programs out of fear of terrorism,' Shah said. He assured that the police, rangers, and Pakistan Army are fully prepared to maintain public safety during the celebrations. He also called on the media to support the campaign by highlighting individuals, homes, vehicles, shops, and public buildings decorated for Independence Day. Shah mentioned that Sindh has always led from the front and will continue to do so. Commenting on potential cabinet changes, he added, 'When I decide to make changes, I will and everyone will know.' In support, Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori met with a delegation of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), led by Senior Vice President Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, to discuss preparations for Independence Day. Tessori emphasized the importance of business community participation in the 'Marka-e-Haq' campaign and said it is a collective responsibility to celebrate the occasion in a dignified manner. The FPCCI delegation assured full support and active involvement in the planned events.

Dar touts inflation dip, better global relations
Listen to article Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan has emerged from diplomatic isolation and is witnessing economic recovery, highlighting a sharp drop in inflation and growing international engagement. Speaking to the Pakistani community at the Consulate General in New York on Saturday, Dar said, 'We have made considerable progress, especially in political and economic fields, in the past three years, despite heavy odds – we are indeed a resilient nation.' Dar, who returned earlier in the day from Washington, said his meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was held in a cordial atmosphere and covered key global and regional matters. 'The meeting went very well,' he said, expressing hope for stronger bilateral ties. Present at the event were Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, and Consul General Aamir Ahmed Atozai. Dar told the audience that Pakistan was no longer isolated and now enjoys support from many nations, evidenced by recent high-level meetings with officials from China, the US, and others. He pointed to the reduction of inflation from 40% to 2.4% as of January 2025 as proof of government effectiveness. The DPM/FM said investor confidence had returned following the successful conclusion of the IMF programme, a recovery acknowledged by international credit agencies. He reaffirmed the government's ambition to join the G20. Dar credited PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif for steering the federal and Punjab governments, calling him an able statesman. He also briefed the community on the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), which aims to ease investment in key sectors. He announced that work was under way to resume PIA flights to New York, following the restoration of routes to Europe and the UK. Appreciating the Pakistani-American community's role, Dar acknowledged their contributions to Pakistan and the US, praising their unity during past tensions with India. He recounted the shooting down of six Indian aircraft by the Pakistan Air Force and praised the leadership of Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. Dar noted Pakistan's presidency of the UN Security Council—secured with support from 182 countries—and the unanimous adoption of a Pakistan-sponsored resolution on peaceful settlement of disputes. He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to diplomacy, peaceful regional ties, and its outreach to Afghanistan for trade and rail connectivity, while expecting Afghan soil not to be used for terrorism. On Aafia Siddiqui's incarceration, he said efforts for her release were ongoing through diplomatic channels. Ambassador Sheikh also addressed the community, noting Pakistan's improved global image following the armed forces' role in national defence. He urged the diaspora to invest in Pakistan, saying a strong economy is vital for national security.
