New Man Utd transfer bid for Bryan Mbeumo status as deal triggers Gyokeres blow

Daily Mirror14 hours ago
Bryan Mbeumo remains a topic of conversation for Manchester United as the Red Devils attempt to come to an agreement with Brentford for the forward's signature after having two bids rejected
The clock is ticking down on Manchester United's quest to get business done before the start of pre-season. Ruben Amorim's hope was to integrate new players into his team on the club's tour of the United States.
But with a return to training coming in less than a week, only Matheus Cunha has been signed. Bids have been rejected for Bryan Mbeumo and the Red Devils have not made any progress on securing on a new striker.

There has been nothing in terms of incoming transfer fees either. While the likes of Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen have seen their deals end, Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho all remain contracted to United.

With the club looking to improve upon a 15th place finish from last term, there is work to be done. United will hope some progress is imminent.
Mirror Football takes a look at the latest transfer news and rumours from around Old Trafford.
Sporting resolve to increase
Sporting CP are set to find themselves under less pressure to sell Viktor Gyokeres, despite the Swedish international's desire to depart this summer. The Portuguese club are willing to allow Gyokeres depart for less than his release clause but will be under little financial pressure to facilitate his exit.
Sporting are confident of completing a €55m (£47.2m) deal with Crystal Palace for defender Ousmane Diomande in the coming days, boosting their funds. Gyokeres has drawn interest from Arsenal and Manchester United this summer as he pushes for an exit.
The Gunners reportedly had a bid in the region £60m rejected by Sporting last month. The club are unlikely to allow the forward to leave for less than the £68.6m they want, with Sporting's president, Frederico Varandas highlighting fees already agreed for Matheus Cunha and Martin Zubimendi.

Rashford makes longlist
Marcus Rashford is among the players being considered by Bayern Munich this summer. Vincent Kompany is keen to add a winger to his squad this summer, and the Manchester United academy product is on the German side's longlist of targets.
Bayern look set to miss out on Nico Williams to Barcelona, a team also linked with a move for Rashford. Per reports in Germany, Rashford is not a priority at the Allianz Arena with Williams, Liverpool's Luis Diaz and Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola all on the agenda.

Manchester United's Mbeumo stance
Manchester United appear to be readying a third bid for Bryan Mbeumo as they continue their talks with Brentford over a deal for the forward. The Red Devils want to land the Cameroon international in time for the start of their pre-season next week.
That said, the club are reportedly adamant they will not overpay to add to their squad, having seen two deals rejected already. But it seems they will not wait long in their efforts to persuade the Bees.
Ex-chief scout Mick Brown said: "United are going to make another bid in the coming days and they're confident they can get it done. From what I hear, I'm expecting things to speed up soon and I think it will go ahead."

Hibs start pre-season campaign with a goalless draw against MSV Duisburg

Hibs started their pre-season campaign with a goalless draw against MSV Duisburg in the Netherlands. Chances were few and far between in the high temperatures. Head coach David Gray used the opportunity as a good chance to get minutes into the legs of several players, with the likes of Jamie McGrath, Rafael Sallinger (pictured) making their first appearances for the Club – whilst Elie Youan also returned after missing a large part of the 2024/25 campaign through injury. Academy youngsters, Dean Cleland, Lewis Gillie, Joseph McGrath, Logan Jimenez and Rory Whittaker all got important match minutes at First Team level. The Hibees started the match with real intensity and purpose to their play. There were good early touches from Lewis Gillie, Dean Cleland and Jacob MacIntyre who all look at ease stepping into the First Team. The first real chance of the game fell to Cleland after a flowing counter-attacking move. MacIntyre linked up well with Chris Cadden, before Josh Campbell picked out Youan who pulled it back to Cleland, and his curling effort was tipped over the bar from the edge of the penalty area. The German side settled and began to work their way back into the game, but did very little to trouble Raphael Sallinger in the opening 22 minutes before both teams paused for a water break due to the high temperatures in Wissel, Gelderland. Duisburg best chance fell to striker, Tim Heike. But he dragged his shot wide of the far post. Gray made two changes at the break, with Jordan Smith replacing Sallinger in goal and Jamie McGrath making his first appearance for the Club coming on for Campbell in the middle of the pitch. Nicky Cadden went close to breaking the deadlock, but his whipped in free-kick evaded everyone in the penalty area . At the other end Smith was called into action moments later – making a smart stop at his near post from Steffen Meuer. On the hour mark, Gray continued to freshen things up with Joseph McGrath, Rory Whittaker, Logan Jimenez, Kanayo Megwa and Alasana Manneh all introduced to the action. Chris Cadden, Nicky Cadden, Youan, Marvin Ekpiteta and Dylan Levitt were the players to make way. O'Hora had an effort cleared off the line from a set-piece before Smith made a brilliant one-handed save, diving to his right to deny a long-range shot from Bookjans. Cleland was played through on goal, and forced a good save from the Duisburg 'keeper. Like this: Like Related

Aldi 'launch' rival to M&S's strawberry sandwich and fans are loving it

Aldi has never been one to shy away from poking fun at its competitors. When Marks and Spencer reckon they're ahead of the game, Aldi is always ready with a clever marketing trick up their sleeve. It's been a tricky few months for M&S after a cyber attack forced the retailer to axe all online orders. The fallout led to M&S making a loss on this year's profits by around £300million. The high street favourite also faces legal action from Scottish customers after it was confirmed the data breach saw personal information stolen. ‌ Things seem to be improving for M&S, with a partial return to online sales last month and Chief Exec Stuart Machin said to have reported to shareholders that all online orders and shopping operations should be back up and running in August. ‌ But despite all the good press around the buzzworthy strawberry sandwich, M&S has again become the butt of the joke after Aldi - once again - re-launched their supermarket feud, reports the Mirror. The budget retailer is known for its witty social media banter, especially at the expense of M&S, and took another cheeky yet amusing dig at their rival. Following the Colin Vs Cuthbert caterpillar cake debacle, Aldi has now taken aim at the strawberry and cream sandwich. True to form, Aldi responded to M&S's new creation by 'launching' their own spoof sando, mocking their rival's posh version. The German supermarket's version features carrots and cream on a soft sweetened loaf. They shared their new concoction on social media, parodying the iconic M&S slogan - just to twist the knife a bit further. They wrote: "This is not just any sando... this is a Carrot and Creme Sando. 500K likes and we'll make it happen." ‌ Although it's not a legitimate item yet, Aldi may have to stock it if they reach their 500,000-like target. M&S had popularised the slang term 'sando' when they introduced their Chicken Katsu Sando last year, and Aldi's engagement in the viral sensation has won over shoppers with their playful jab at their rival. ‌ One fan remarked on the post: "Can always count on Aldi to have a sense of humour," prompting Aldi to respond: "Love a good bit of tomfoolery." Another keen Aldi enthusiast added: "I've been waiting for Aldi's response on this," while a third quipped: "Guaranteed to make you see in the dark!" Aldi humorously guaranteed: "100% night vision or your money back." A fourth joked: "Easy now, wouldn't want any beef in that sandwich," prompting a cheeky retort from Aldi: "Oh, we've always got beef!". ‌ This follows Aldi's playful name change at one of their Manchester stores in anticipation of the Oasis reunion concert. The supermarket paid homage by altering the name of its Bury New Road store in Prestwich to 'Aldeh'. The brand explained that the temporary rebranding is a nod to the Mancunian way of pronouncing its name and serves as a tribute to the Gallagher brothers and the city's rich musical legacy. Aldi has announced that the sign will be proudly displayed during Oasis ' eagerly anticipated return to Manchester. It has been hinted that fans have already lined up outside the store to snap pictures with the new sign in honour of the band. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
