Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha launched Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0, a nationwide campaign to enhance ecological balance and ensure environmental protection, at Maharani Tulsibati Girls' Higher Secondary School in Agartala on Wednesday.
The campaign, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inspire citizens to plant trees, seeks to raise awareness about the environment to promote ecological balance while strengthening the bond of gratitude with one's mother.
Saha said plants are the sole source of oxygen and that there would be no life on the earth without oxygen. An increase in the green cover is thus imperative for the survival of life on the earth, he added.
'Trees give us life just like our mothers. They provide oxygen, shelter, and nourishment. This campaign serves two purposes–honouring our mothers and ensuring a healthier planet for our future generations. We are trying to give a personal connection to nature by involving students and their mothers,' he told reporters.
Saha was accompanied by Special Secretary of Education Raval Hemendra Kumar, Director of Elementary and Secondary Education N C Sharma, students, teachers, and parents.
