Thane, Aug 5 (PTI) Parents of a four-year-old girl studying in a reputed school in Maharashtra's Thane city have alleged that an unidentified person sexually assaulted her, prompting police to launch an investigation, officials said.
In their complaint to police, the parents have alleged a person in blue clothes sexually assaulted their daughter in the school premises on July 30 between 11.15 am and 3 pm, the officials said on Monday.
Taking serious note of the matter, the police examined the CCTV footage of the school as part of their probe.
'We are investigating the matter under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. Although the initial CCTV investigation did not reveal any suspicious movement, we are expanding the probe so that no link is left unturned," a senior police official said.
The school administration was cooperating with the police in the case, he informed.
Statements of the school staff were being recorded and information was also being sought from other witnesses in the area, according to police.
In August last year, two minor girls were sexually assaulted inside the toilet of a school at Badlapur in Thane district by a male attendant, sparking widespread protests and outrage.
The accused, Akshay Shinde, was later killed in an alleged retaliatory police shootout while being escorted in a police vehicle. PTI COR RSY GK

UP's Shahjahanpur cracks down against drone-crime 'rumours'

Shahjahanpur , Authorities here have formed two teams to scuttle rumours about drones being used to commit crimes, an official said on Tuesday. UP's Shahjahanpur cracks down against drone-crime 'rumours' District Magistrate Dharmendra Pratap Singh said such rumours were false. "People should not panic due to such rumours, nor should they forward any unverified information received on social media," he said. The DM said anyone wishing to fly a drone must first take permission from the district administration, disclose the area of operation, and state the purpose of the activity. They must also inform the local police station of the drone flying's date, time, and location. Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi said several posts about drone sightings, followed by thefts, were found to be fake after an investigation. "We have instructed village security committees, beat constables, sub-inspectors, chowkidars and even women police personnel to reach out to villagers and raise awareness. No incident involving drones has come to our official notice so far," Dwivedi told PTI. Drones weighing up to 250 grams are permitted for use in weddings and other functions without prior permission, but for heavier drones, written approval from the administration is mandatory. Several districts, including Ayodhya, Muzaffarnagar, Mathura, Meerut, and Bijnor, on Monday banned unauthorised drone operations. In Ayodhya, where drone restrictions were earlier limited to the temple town area surrounding the Ram Janmabhoomi complex, there is a blanket ban now. Adityanath had on Sunday instructed district magistrates and police to strictly monitor drone activity in light of 17 FIRs and 29 arrests linked to drone-related rumours. The chief minister warned that unauthorised drone usage could result in action under the Gangsters Act, and, if necessary, even the National Security Act . "Any attempt to spread fear or misinformation using drones will not be tolerated," Adityanath said. This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.

‘Never Hid It': Seer Forced To Quit After Aadhaar Card Reveals Muslim Roots Before ‘Deeksha'

Last Updated: The seer said that he did not hide his religion before 'deeksha' and was "hurt" by the incident. A 22-year-old seer was forced to step down from a mutt in Karnataka's Chamarajanagar district on Sunday, over allegations that he did not disclose his religion by birth during anointment. This comes after a section of villagers objected to his role, citing his religious status as a Muslim before taking Basava Deeksha, Times of India reported. The seer had taken ' deeksha ' five years ago and was given the name 'Nijalinga Swamiji'. He joined the mutt as its new seer just over a month ago. He was, however, forced to step down after the revelation of his Muslim identity before deeksha, as some devotees alleged that he had not informed them about his religion by birth. However, the seer told TOI that everyone knew about his religion before taking deeksha, and he never kept it from them. SP BT Kavita said that no complaints were received relating to the incident. 'One of the devotees at the mutt approached my guru to send a seer to the mutt, and in keeping with the Guru's wish, I joined. I was involved in spreading 'vachana's in the villages," the Swamiji told TOI. 'An ardent follower of Basavanna's principles, I was hurt by the incident as I took ' deeksha ' to spread the 'vachana's that preach brotherhood. I am totally cut off from my pre- ' deeksha ' religion," the Swamiji said. 'I was forced to quit the mutt on the ground that I didn't disclose my pre- Basava Deeksha religion, but everyone knows about my pre- Basava Deeksha religion. I never hid it," he added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Sambhal temple-mosque row: Court sets August 21 to hear case

A civil court in Chandausi on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) deferred to August 21 the ongoing Shahi Jama Masjid-Harihar temple dispute owing to the strike of the local bar association members. The matter was listed for hearing before civil judge (senior division) Aditya Singh. Advocate Shri Gopal Sharma, appearing for one side, said, 'Due to the bar association strike today, the court has fixed August 21 as the next date of hearing.' Advocate Shakil Ahmad Warsi, who represents the other side, told PTI that due to the rains, the bar association was on strike due to which the matter was posted for another date. The High Court's previous stay was vacated on May 19, and the documents related to that order were submitted in the trial court. The dispute dates back to November 19 last year, when Hindu petitioners, including advocates Hari Shankar Jain and Vishnu Shankar Jain, filed a suit in the Sambhal district court claiming the mosque was built over a pre-existing temple. A court-ordered survey was conducted on the same day (November 19), followed by another on November 24. The second survey on November 24 led to significant unrest in Sambhal, resulting in the death of four persons and injuries to 29 police personnel. The police booked SP MP Ziaur Rahman Barq and mosque committee head Zafar Ali in relation to the violence besides registering an FIR against 2,750 unidentified persons.
