
A N College to expand skill courses: Principal
Singh congratulated the college administration for maintaining a high academic standard, attributing recent success to improved teaching facilities, research, sports infrastructure and student placements.
The college, which received a Grade A in 2005, improved further with a 3.18 CGPA in 2011, 3.27 in 2017, and most recently, 3.36 out of 4 in 2023 under UGC accreditation.
Singh added that the college currently offers 25 undergraduate and 23 postgraduate courses.
"We rank fourth in arts education and second in science across eastern India," he said.
Teachers' association president Sushil Kumar Singh raised concerns about the poor student-teacher ratio and urged for steps to improve academic attention.
Examination controller Subhash Prasad Singh and senior faculty member Sanjay Kumar were also present at the event.

DM welcomes school kids, gifts books & chocolates
Kanpur: Around 1.25 lakhs children on Tuesday appeared in all primary and junior schools of the city in the new academic session. District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh welcomed the new students at Primary School Bhaisia Hata Colonelganj by placing vermilion on the foreheads of the students and inaugurated the school chalo campaign. He presented books, pens and chocolates to the new students. Communicating with the students, the district magistrate said, "This is the time when you can strengthen the foundation of your future." He said that currently 54 students are registered in the school. He directed the principal to increase the number of children. The DM said,"I appeal to all the teachers to discharge their duties with full devotion and punctuality. Also, parents are requested to send their children to school regularly." Singh said that he was sure that the education department and partner organisations would work together to further strengthen the quality of education and school facilities. Due to the coordinated efforts of the directorate, books and educational material were made available to all the students on time, due to which the session started in an organised and positive manner, he added. 3-day life skills training programme begins at SPMVV
Tirupati: A three-day training programme on 'Life Skills' was inaugurated on Monday at Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) under the PM-USHA initiative. Speaking at the inaugural event, Registrar Prof N Rajini emphasised the importance of life skills in facing life's challenges with courage. She highlighted the need for integrating life skills education into the curriculum as advocated by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Prof K Sekhar from the Department of Psychosocial Support in Disaster Management, NIMHANS, Bengaluru, delivered the keynote address and explained the ten life skills identified by the World Health Organisation. He stressed that mastering these skills can enhance personal and professional success. PM-USHA Coordinator Prof C Vani noted that students with strong subject knowledge, but weak social skills often struggle during placements. Dr Sanjeev Kumar from NIMHANS, serving as a trainer, said that teachers could also impart life skills training once trained themselves. Event convener Prof R Usha stated that 35 faculty members who have not previously received training would be trained during the three-day programme. Several faculty members including organising secretaries Dr G Sireesha, Dr S Vajeehabanu, Centre for International Relations Dean Prof P Vijaya Lakshmi among others were present.

Promote mother tongue-based instruction, says CIIL director
The Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, through its National Testing Service–India (NTS-I), organised a one-day orientation programme on 'Basics of testing and evaluation in Kannada with reference to NEP 2020', here on Monday. The programme was specially designed for final-year students from the Government College of Teacher Education (GCTE) here. Speaking at the inauguration, H.N. Geethambha, principal and joint director, GCTE, stressed the importance of assessment and teaching in the learning process and urged students and teachers to adopt reflective teaching practices. Pankaj Dwivedi, assistant director, CIIL and officer in charge of NTS-I, highlighted the relevance of NEP-2020, especially in reference to importance of assessment in contemporary classrooms. He advocated a balanced approach that integrates traditional and modern assessment methods. Dr. Dwivedi encouraged participants to remain committed to lifelong learning and assured continued academic support from the CIIL. P.R. Dharmesh Fernandez, Deputy Director, CIIL, outlined the institute's initiatives in language education and research, including teacher training, language documentation, and multilingual resource development. Presiding over the valedictory session, Shailendra Mohan, Director, CIIL, called upon future educators to embrace the vision of Viksit Bharat by promoting mother tongue-based instruction to boost cognitive development and foster inclusive education. Over 95 students and teachers participated in the programme.
