Goal-hungry Glanmire swift out of traps to beat Bandon
Two first-half goals were crucial for Glanmire as they overcame Bandon in a titanic and highly entertaining PIFC game played in beautiful sunshine at Ballincollig.
Credit to Bandon who pressed hard and got back on level terms after trailing by seven points at one stage of the opening half. But Glanmire had terrific pace in attack with Brian Galvin and Cathal McCarthy which proved too hot to handle.
Aided by a slight breeze, Glanmire opened the scoring with an excellent point from the outstanding Brian Galvin after a good team move. Both defences were on top early on as both teams wasted a couple of decent chances. Bandon replied in excellent fashion with their talisman Michael Cahalane landing three points on the bounce, the third a superb effort with his left foot.

But Bandon rallied significantly in the closing minutes of the opening half with a magnificent two-point score from Michael Cahalane from a very difficult angle. The impressive Conor Calnan reduced the gap to four points by finishing off an excellent team move, 2-7 to 0-9 at halftime.
On resumption, Cahalane landed a placed effort before the experienced Molden cancelled it out with a Glanmire free. Bandon continued to press with Jack Cullinane clipping over before Michael Cahalane landed a glorious two-pointer. Bandon landed the equalising score with a fine effort from substitute Darren Crowley, 0-14 to 2-8 after 40 minutes.
Both sides failed to score for the following 10 minutes before Glanmire seized control of the contest. Goalkeeper Brendan O'Connell edged them in front with a placed free before excellent points from Darragh Murray and Brian Galvin edged them three points in front.

Cork IAHC round-up: Sarsfields lay down marker with win over Youghal
Bandon got their campaign in the Co-op Superstores Cork IAHC off to the perfect start with a 3-19 to 0-19 win over Russell Rovers in Riverstick on Sunday. The Carbery side led by 0-9 to 0-8 at the break but two goals from Jack Cullinane and a third from Conor Calnan turned the tie in their favour after the interval. Late Naomh Abán scoring burst denies gutsy Rockchapel
Cork Premier IFC: Naomh Abán 2-17 Rockchapel 1-14 Naomh Abán overcame Rockchapel by a point at the quarter-final stage last year before losing out to Aghabullogue in the semi-final. In this year's opening group game rematch, a win was important in a tight looking group also involving Glanmire and Bandon. This proved to be a contest where no quarter was asked nor given. It was a game that ebbed and flowed one way and then the other with Naomh Abán thankful for the accuracy from placed balls by Maidhcí Ó Duinnín and the inspirational play from man of the match Ed Myers. But the scoreboard fails to tell the true story of how close this contest was. Naomh Abán led 1-9 to 0-8 at the break with Danny Ó Ceallaigh scoring the all-important goal with a solo effort as he neatly tucked the ball beyond the Rockchapel keeper into the roof of the net. Rockchapel had made a blistering start with Seamus Hickey driving through the middle to set up John Walsh to open the scoring. But Naomh Abán's danger man Ed Myers then cut loose and kicked their opening three points with the Rockchapel defence struggling to cope with his pace and movement. Rockchapel, with Seamus Hickey the dominant figure at midfield, were soon 0-4 to 0-3 in front thanks to points from Jack Curtin, Hickey and Nicholas Lenihan but Myers' goal appeared to suck the life out of them for a spell. A two-pointer from a free by Ó Duinnín and two Darragh Ó Laoire points had the Muskerry side sitting pretty at half time four points to the good. But Rockchapel resumed a transformed side and dominated the third quarter with Jack Curtin converting four frees and Jimmy McAuliffe making it 0-14 to 1-12 by the 48th minute. With Seamus Hickey and Maurice O'Keeffe dominant around the middle, Rockchapel struck for a 51st-minute goal. David Carroll and Jimmy McAuliffe did the spadework and Nicholas Lenihan finished to the net. Suddenly Rockchapel were 1-14 to 1-12 in front. But in the 53rd minute a controversial call saw momentum shift. A Rockchapel attacker appeared to be fouled twice, and inside the square, but referee Justin Murphy waved play on and when play swung to the other end, Wayne MacCarthaigh finished to the Rockchapel net to restore his side's one-point lead. Naomh Abán then assumed complete control for the final eight minutes, adding a Myers two-pointer and another from play while Ó Duinnín closed out the game with two frees.
