Rangers activate RHP Jon Gray after spending season on IL

Reuters4 days ago
July 23 - The Texas Rangers on Wednesday activated right-hander Jon Gray, who will be looking to make his season debut after sustaining a fractured right wrist in spring training.
In a corresponding move, the Rangers designated right-handed reliever Luke Jackson for assignment.
Gray, 33, went on the 60-day injured list after being hit by a comebacker off the bat of Colorado's Michael Toglia during a Cactus League game on March 14 in Surprise, Ariz.
He made three starts on rehabilitation assignments with Texas minor league affiliates, going a combined 8 2/3 innings with a 3.12 ERA. He started for Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday and yielded one earned run with two walks five strikeouts in 61 pitches over 3 2/3 innings.
Gray has made trips to the injured list in each of his three seasons with the Rangers. He was limited to just 102 2/3 innings in 2024 because of two groin strains and a foot neuroma that required offseason surgery. Gray posted a 5-6 record with a 4.47 ERA in 23 appearances (19 starts) last season.
Gray, in the final season of a four-year, $56 million contract, is 74-70 with a 4.45 ERA in 228 career games (223 starts) with the Colorado Rockies (2015-21) and Rangers.
Jackson, 33, went 2-5 with nine saves, a 4.11 ERA, 19 walks and 24 strikeouts in 35 innings over 39 relief appearances for Texas this season.
He has a career 24-16 record with 28 saves and 4.23 ERA in 377 games (all in relief) with Texas (2015-16, 2025), Atlanta (2017-21, 2024), and San Francisco (2023-24).

Lucy Bronze reveals she played with fractured tibia throughout Euro 2025

Lucy Bronze revealed after England's Euro 2025 final victory over Spain that she had played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia. The right-back, who went off during half-time of extra time of the final because of an injury to her right knee, said she had played all six matches with a fractured tibia in her left leg and described it as 'very painful'. Bronze grabbed attention during the quarter-final win against Sweden for strapping her own thigh deep into extra time before taking off the strapping and scoring a powerful penalty in the shootout. The 33-year-old – one of whose middle names is Tough – had her right leg heavily strapped as England celebrated retaining the Euros title in Basel but told the BBC when asked about that: 'I've actually played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia but no one knew and then I've hurt my knee today on the other leg. 'I think that's why I got a lot of praise from the girls after the Sweden game – because I've been through a lot of pain. But that's what it takes to play for England. That's what I'll do. They know that and I think we inspire each other by playing through things like that and it got us to the end.' She said the two injuries would not her hold her back when England continue their celebrations behind closed doors before flying home on Monday and heading on Tuesday to a public celebration event in central London. 'I'm going to party, I'm going to enjoy it and that's it,' Bronze said. The Chelsea player said England had blocked out the outside noise after losing the opening game against France. 'We've shown everyone to believe in yourself no matter what other people say about you and to believe in the people who give you that support,' Bronze said.

Royals place All-Star P Kris Bubic (rotator cuff) on IL

July 27 - The Kansas City Royals placed All-Star left-hander Kris Bubic on the 15-day injured list Sunday due a left rotator cuff strain. The Royals also sent rookie outfielder Jac Caglianone to the 10-day IL with a strained left hamstring. Bubic, 27, complained of shoulder stiffness following Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. He lasted only 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks. The first-time All-Star is 8-7 with a 2.55 ERA through 20 starts this season. He has struck out 116 batters and walked 39 in 116 1/3 innings. Bubic is 19-36 with a 4.14 ERA in 117 games (80 starts) since making his major league debut in 2020 for the Royals, who drafted him in the first round in 2018. Caglianone felt tightness in his hamstring while running down a ball in the gap in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. The 22-year-old is batting .147 with five homers and 10 RBIs in 22 games this season. The Royals recalled right-hander Jonathan Bowlan from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move. Bowlan, 28, is 1-2 with a 4.94 ERA in 17 relief appearances this season for Kansas City. --Field Level Media
