Tanda Medical college to become state's premier healthcare institution within a year: Himachal CM Sukhu
The Chief Minister held an in-depth discussion for more than three hours with department heads and faculty members of Tanda Medical College on Monday evening. He reviewed staff requirements and took feedback regarding modern medical technologies and equipment.
He said that the Government would invest Rs 1,730 crore to equip all Medical Colleges in the State with modern technology, bringing revolutionary changes in the health sector and ensuring that people receive the best healthcare facilities within the state itself and no longer need to travel outside for treatment.
'I have held similar interactions with the Heads of different departments of IGMC at Shimla, and I want that the medical facilities in Tanda Medical College would also be strengthened and prompt treatment to patients be ensured', said the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister stressed the need to eliminate waiting periods for surgeries and diagnostic tests. He said that new departments would be opened at Tanda Medical College, and high-end medical equipment would be installed to facilitate the people.
In addition, posts of paramedical staff, nurses, technicians, and other supporting personnel will be filled to ensure smooth functioning. The number of General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) seats will be increased, and B.Sc. Nursing courses will be introduced in Tanda Medical College, he added.
CM Sukhu stated that over the past two and a half years, significant reforms in the education sector have enabled the State to leap from 21st to 5th rank in the NAS-2025 survey.
Similar reforms are now being implemented in the health sector, and positive outcomes will be visible soon in the near future.
Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil said that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the present State Government was committed to delivering improved healthcare to the people of the State. He said that a robotic surgery machine has already been installed at Chamiyana Hospital and that Tanda Medical College would soon receive a robotic surgery machine as well.
Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, RS Bali said that since Sukhu assumed the office of the Chief Minister, various significant advancements have been made at Tanda Medical College. 'Open heart surgeries and renal transplants have been successfully conducted for the first time, for which the patients earlier had to travel to expensive hospitals in Delhi,' he said.
On the occasion, doctors at the Medical College expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for his concern to equip the hospital with modern technology and his assurance to start robotic surgery in RPMGC Tanda soon. (ANI)

With rising obesity among youth and adults, and growing awareness about appearance, more people are opting for bariatric and liposuction surgeries. However, many undergo these procedures at hospitals lacking skilled specialists, leading to failed surgeries. Short-term side effects include infection, acid reflux, dilation of esophagus, inability to eat certain food, obstruction of stomach and weight gain or failure to lose weight while long-term side effects consists of low blood pressure, malnutrition, vomiting, ulcers, bowel obstruction, and hernias,' said Dr Kedar Patil, bariatric and advanced laparoscopic surgeon, Ruby Hall Clinic. What is liposuction procedure? 'Liposuction is a surgical procedure by which accumulated, stubborn fat deposits in the body, which are outside the natural body shape, are suctioned out. It is best suited for those having a stable weight (usually within 20% of their ideal weight) and practising a healthy diet and exercise regimen. There are a host of other treatment options, including non-surgical ones, that help in reducing some amount of fat from the body,' said Dr. Chinthan Gujrathi, a plastic surgeon at Manipal Hospital. He added, 'Only a plastic surgeon who undergoes years of specific training — a minimum of 3 years — in all the nuances of cosmetic and plastic surgery is board-certified to perform these procedures. Hence, complication rates increase when such surgeries are done by doctors or surgeons who are not plastic surgeons.' Side effects of liposuction are skin might appear bumpy, fluid can get accumulated under skin, temporary numbness, infection, internal puncture, kidney and heart problem. The cost of cosmetic procedures in India is significantly lower compared to many other countries, making it a popular destination for medical tourism. Mandatory thalassemia test in Maharashtra: Couples to be tested before marriage; minister says rules to be framed soon

Responding to a demand by MLA Vikas Thakre during the question hour of the assembly, the minister said, " 'We will soon frame rules on making the test mandatory before marriage.' She added that about 12,860 people in Maharashtra were currently living with thalassemia. Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder that affects the body's ability to produce haemoglobin and healthy red blood cells. 'If not diagnosed in time, it can affect the next generation,' the minister added. The state has already started a thalassemia eradication campaign, beginning with a pilot in Parbhani district. That programme is now being expanded to other parts of the state. Bordikar also said that thalassemia treatment centres would be set up in every district. Meanwhile, the Assembly also discussed alleged irregularities in the purchase of cancer diagnostic vans by the public health department. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Bhaskar Jadhav raised the issue, and Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar claimed the vans were bought at nearly twice the price. 'The cost of one van should not exceed Rs 40 lakh. But they were bought at much higher rates. The equipment inside is worth around Rs 12 lakh,' Wadettiwar alleged. He also claimed some of the equipment in these vans was non-functional. Speaker Rahul Narwekar directed that the inquiry report by the health department commissioner be presented before the end of the monsoon session, which concludes on July 18.
