ZTE Launches Children Care Charity Campaign in Thailand

Bangkok Post5 days ago
Bangkok, July 29, 2025 — ZTE Corporation (0763.HK / 000063.SZ), a global leading provider of integrated information and communication technology solutions, has successfully concluded its charity initiative "Warm Little Hearts, Light Up Bright Future", reaffirming its commitment to corporate social responsibility in Thailand. The initiative saw ZTE donate essential supplies and digital connectivity solutions worth 1 million THB to a Public charity organisation, Baan Nokkamin Foundation, to support underprivileged children across the country.
As a key partner in Thailand's 4G and 5G infrastructure rollout, working closely with major operators such as AIS, TrueMove, and DTAC, ZTE has consistently aligned its technological expertise with social impact. The latest campaign reflects the company's "Tech for Good" philosophy, leveraging innovation to empower vulnerable communities and nurture future generations.
The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of China-Thailand diplomatic relations, with both nations having achieved fruitful cooperation across economic, trade, and cultural domains. At this significant milestone, ZTE launched a charitable donation program specifically targeting underprivileged children and vulnerable groups in Thailand, aiming to enhance their access to education, healthcare, and digital connectivity.
In June 2025, ZTE and VST ECS (Thailand) Co., Ltd. donated 20 ZTE nubia A35e smartphones with annual SIM packages to Pakayon Village in Phetchaburi Province. The contribution brought first-time mobile connectivity to a remote Karen community lacking access to electricity, marking a small but significant step toward digital inclusion.
Building on this momentum, ZTE launched the "Care for Orphanage Children" initiative in July, in collaboration with the Baan Nokkamin Foundation, a public charity organisation that operates three branches across Thailand. This foundation provides foster family-style care for orphans, nursery care, educational support, skill development, and health and hygiene management support to over 800 vulnerable children." Following consultations with Chairat Midchid, fundraiser of the foundation, ZTE identified urgent supply needs of the organisation's Bangkok branch.
With complimentary logistics support from Sinotrans Thailand, ZTE promptly initiated a 1-million-THB donation programme, culminating in a ceremony held on July 9 at Baan Nokkamin Foundation's Bangkok Children's Home. ZTE Thailand executives, including CEO Yan Changzhi, CMO Huang Wulong, CTO Wang Fei, and other members, joined with Surachai Sanmi, Director of Baan Nokkamin Foundation, and over 20 children for the occasion.
Each child received a personalised gift bag containing socks, toys, and a symbolic Year of the Snake mystery box figurine, offered as a gesture of encouragement, wishing the children wisdom and agility as they pursue their futures.
This initiative underscores ZTE's commitment and responsibility as a global corporate citizen, while representing our active contribution to Thai society. By combining technological innovation with compassion, the company aims to foster inclusive growth and create a lasting impact in communities where it operates.

Tariff deal shows Thais ready for ‘new world order'

Economic and trade analysts have warned of a sluggish economy later this year as the impact of the 19% tariff rate imposed on Thailand by the United States takes hold. Nonetheless, there are silver linings as it could spur the country to diversify and be more innovative in order to stay relevant and competitive in the face of the overall contraction of global and US trade, experts said. The 19% tariff rate announced by President Donald Trump this week was lower than expected and would help Thailand avoid a technical recession, according to Amonthep Chawla, chief economist at CIMB Thai Bank (CIMBT). A technical recession occurs when a country's gross domestic product (GDP) contracts for at least two consecutive quarters. 'The US 19% reciprocal tariff on Thai exports is expected to enhance the competitiveness of Thai products. Sectors that will benefit include electronics, auto parts, tyres, processed foods and mobile phone components,' Dr Amonthep said on Friday on the sidelines of the 2025 Bangkok Post Forum panel discussion on 'Positioning Thailand in the New Global Economy: Trade, Investment and Strategic Resilience'. 'However, Thai export growth is still projected to decline in the second half of the year due to a broader slowdown in US imports — resulting from earlier stockpiling — and a weakening US economy driven by rising inflation,' he added. Dr Amonthep also noted that the better-than-expected tariff rate would likely encourage more foreign direct investment (FDI) in Thailand. He foresees more firms seeking to relocate production from China to Thailand, reducing direct competition with Vietnam and Indonesia. Industries such as electrical appliances, batteries and auto parts are expected to benefit the most. According to Dr Amonthep, Thai businesses will also gain from lower input costs due to reduced tariffs on US imports, including pharmaceuticals, food products, animal feed, corn, soybeans and more — supporting investment in these sectors. Thailand's economic outlook is expected to remain subdued, however, due to structural challenges, including an ageing population, declining competitiveness, and rising debt levels across public, corporate and household sectors, said Dr Amonthep. The US tariffs are expected to further erode the competitiveness of Thai small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). As a result, the government should adopt targeted measures to support vulnerable SMEs, he said. Nalinee Taveesin, President of the Thailand Trade Representative Office, said the government is preparing targeted support for SMEs and farmers likely to be affected by the new trade barriers. 'Despite challenges such as economic security concerns, US-China tensions and supply chain disruptions, Thailand remains resilient and ready to move forward,' she said. The new tariff rate could be interpreted as 'good news' as it is likely to encourage Thai exporters to pursue untapped markets to make up the shortfall. Thailand is currently pursuing free trade agreements (FTAs) with the European Union and South Korea, and is also working towards the Asean–Canada agreement. Recently, the country signed FTAs with Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) ahead of the expected US hikes. In addition to enhancing regional ties, Thailand is actively expanding into untapped markets in Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and other emerging regions, she said. Pipope Chokvathana, vice-chairman of the Economic and Academic Affairs Department at the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), has warned that Thailand will face double competition with goods from both China and the US flooding in amid the new US tariffs. 'In this so-called new world order, we woke up to this tariff news. Likely the GDP (growth) forecast for 2025 would be 2% if the tariff was at 10%,' Mr Pipope said. 'If the tariff is 19%, then GDP growth this year would be 1.5%. This picture is not totally positive. 'Ever since China faced higher tariffs, they have been planning to reduce exports to the US, and when it comes to competitiveness, a lot of products from China are coming to Thailand. So it becomes Chinese versus Thai goods,' he explained. 'And likely later, there are going to be floods of US goods to Thailand as well.' Mr Pipope said Thai manufacturers should strive to stay relevant and be innovative to deal with the dual threat posed by these superpowers. As the market evolves, companies must be agile and responsive to consumer preferences and international economic conditions. 'The FTI's guidelines are go digital/AI, go innovation, go green and go global,' said Mr Pipope. 'We need to get producers to learn how to use new technology, integrate it into the system and do it quicker, to increase our productivity. 'We need to diversify the market. The world order is changing.'

Commerce Ministry Boosts Exports Amid US Tariff Pressures

The Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), is accelerating efforts to expand export markets in response to US tariff measures by hosting the 'Thailand – Global Connect: Seeking New Opportunities Amidst Global Trade Challenges' business matching event. The initiative brought together 156 Thai companies and 135 importers from 29 countries, resulting in over 700 trade negotiations conducted both online and onsite. The event is expected to generate approximately 800 million baht in trade value. Mr Suchart Chomklin, Deputy Minister of Commerce, presided over the opening ceremony on 31 July 2025 at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao, Bangkok. He stated: 'Thailand's trade economy and export sector are key drivers of national economic growth.' Despite global economic slowdowns and weakened demand from major partners in 2025, he affirmed that opportunities persist amidst the challenges. From January to June 2025, Thailand's global export value reached USD 166.85 billion (THB 5.58 trillion), marking a 15.03% increase year-on-year. Major markets include the United States, China, Japan, India, and Malaysia—with exports to the US growing 29.74%. Key export products include computers and components, rubber products, fax machines, telephones and parts, electrical transformers, and industrial machinery. While the United States remains Thailand's top export market, the global trade environment remains volatile due to shifting US trade policies. In the first half of 2025, Thailand's exports to the US totalled USD 33.41 billion (THB 1.12 trillion), accounting for 20.02% of total exports. To address uncertainty and sustain momentum, the Ministry has adopted a proactive export acceleration policy, focusing on opening new markets and enhancing the competitiveness of Thai entrepreneurs. This includes connecting Thai businesses with international networks and supporting their development on the global stage. The 'Thailand – Global Connect' event is part of this policy, aiming to create new opportunities for Thai enterprises across all major export categories—including food and beverages, lifestyle products, health and beauty, automotive parts, machinery, medical devices, and service sectors. Trade negotiations with buyers from 29 countries are expected to strengthen business alliances, expand export channels, and increase global competitiveness. 'The Ministry of Commerce anticipates trade value from this activity to reach 800 million baht. Forming international alliances and opening new trade avenues are essential to maintaining export resilience in today's unpredictable trade landscape,' concluded Mr Suchart.
